Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomA fabulous facility. Very well thought through from tatami mats as you enter, to coloured coordinated walls, woodwork. Attention to detail of the building followed into the breakfast food offer, superb, and areas for children (manga library, free vending and ice creams..). A brilliant hotel. Of course nothing is great without fabulous staff and they are too

United KingdomNothing that I can think of, I was surprised by its overall quality actually.
It’s a very clean and tidy hotel. I think it’s renovated internally so it’s quite new inside the hotel. They offer complimentary drinks and ramen at certain time which is highly appreciated and useful.

United KingdomNothing to report, our stay was flawless.
The hotel was very clean, with plenty of services, including a late dinner, public hot bath, spa, and coin laundry. Breakfast was generous and very good in general. Out of the hotels we have visited in our regional trip, this tops everything by far.

Best buffet breakfast spread we’ve had in Japan so far. Delicious and many choices to choose from. I love the big public bath for the women, and how clean the entire hotel is. The staff are also polite and attentive. I requested for a quiet clean room in a high floor and it was exactly what I got. Perfect stay!!

United StatesLocation is a bit set away from the main area of town. That said, it was an easy walk to the station and we found plenty of restaurants to walk to.
One of our best stays in Japan! Very clean and I loved how no shoes on the property starting from the lobby! Very clean. Comfortable beds. Great staff that spoke some English. Loved the onsen, free non alcoholic drinks in the lobby and free ice pops after the onsen. Didn’t try the free ramen but nice touch.

NetherlandsMildly inconvenient to have to take off your shoes on a rainy day. It's necessary to do so to keep the tatami clean, but when you arrive with loads of bags, it's not the most comfortable of entrances into a hotel (it is roomy enough though and this is being very picky)!
An incredibly comfortable city retreat option, well located to venture into the city centre. Staff are accommodating and help you get settled.

AustraliaPillows are very hard, but guess that is Japanese style.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Everything is new, immaculately clean & beautifully presented, based on traditional Japanese design. We found the reception staff very friendly & welcoming. Remove shoes just before reception, place in a locker & wear socks or slippers around the hotel. This was our first experience of an onsen - so lovely & peaceful when we went around 3pm. The hotel provides many extras at different times of the day - welcome non-alcoholic drinks, ice blocks, yoghurt drinks & soba noodles. It is located only a five minute walk from the train station & lots of restaurants. The soundproofing is very good & wifi reception is excellent. Matsumoto Castle is interesting to see (only $A7). Naroi, an old preserved village is 1 hour by train. Kamikochi National Park is 2 hours & worth the $A25 each way by train/bus (no JR pass). Get an all inclusive ticket from left side ticket machine on day of travel & must reserve return when get to Kamikochi. We would definitely stay here again & highly recommend this serene hotel.

United StatesNot a problem for us, but this hotel is close to the train station and the surrounding bars and restaurants. However, it is not super close to the town's main attractions. You'll need to walk a bit (20 minutes?) to access the castle, the shrine, and other popular spots. Just something to be aware of if you're unable or unwilling to walk through the town. It's a very cute little city though, so walking around was pleasant if sometimes a bit toasty in June.
It seems to be a newly built hotel. We loved the traditional tatami interior and the overall cleanliness and simplicity of the rooms and public spaces. The service was slightly above the already-excellent Japanese standard. The men's onsen was very nice with one hot outdoor pool, one hot indoor, one cold indoor and a sauna room. The no-extra-charge late night ramen, ice cream and drinks were tasty and fun for our family. The location is quite close to the train station so you don't have to trek too far with your luggage.

SingaporeWhile language may be a barrier, we felt unwelcome. The front desk staff were seriously cold & unfriendly, even at check-in & check-out transactions. Such unwelcome stance was especially felt whenever we & all other guests entered the front door, as they zoomed in with near yelling voices to tell us to remove our shoes. It happened every time we passed the front door for the two nights we stayed there. All guests were cooperative & understood the hotel policy that no outside shoes are allowed inside the hotel. The point is - do the front desk staff need to speak so sternly, so coldly, so belittling to the guests?
The Japanese breakfast buffet was simply exceptional. Many traditional dishes were served, & good quality ingredients were used. If we return to Matsumoto again, we may book this hotel again only to savour its great & good Japanese breakfast spread. The other feature that we like is the onsen - balanced lighting, quality shampoo & bathing wash, & most importantly, a clean place to shower & onsen in peace.
