The mattresses are a little thin, and there’s not much space to store your belongings in the dorm, but nothing unbearable for a hiker ;) !

The hostel is ideally located, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. The owner and his daughter are lovely; I was warmly welcomed and given plenty of advice for hiking in the area. I was able to enjoy the town’s onsen in the evening and again the next morning.

The guesthouse is just next to the bus statiom with a very welcoming host. The common room is very cosy amd has a small kitchen which is very handy to have. The rooms are nice and beds are comfy.

I really liked this place. It is a small and very basic family run guesthouse. The location is perfect - you step off the bus in central Unzen, and the guest house is right there. It is managed by a family with some extremely adorable kids who are lovely and lively with foreigners. It's also a great place to get some advice about traveling in Unzen (in Japanese or English). Though the common area is pretty small, it has a cozy and homey vibe and it is a nice place to meet other solo travelers. I would definitely stay here again if I am back in Unzen.

Great guesthouse right in the middle of Unzen. I had my check-in with two very professional young ladies who explained everything clearly. If I were the owner, I would definitely give them a raise!

It's not the hostel's fault, but lots of the shops in the town close early. But you can often pick up supplies from nearby hotels.

The owner was very welcoming and friendly, all the locals who came by were also very fun and friendly, they invited out us for a short outing nearby as well. The onsen was a nice touch. Main social room was cozy with lots of personality, the dorm and bathrooms were good for a quick night in a mountain town.

It wasn’t spotless, so if cleanliness is a top priority for you, this might not be the best choice. However, it’s definitely worth the price.

The host was friendly and spoke good English, so communication was easy. He gave great recommendations for local food and activities. I followed his advice for a simple hike to a nearby pond and mountain, which was totally worth it for the beautiful scenery. The room was small but had everything I needed: a bed, two toilets, and a shower. There’s a common area on the first floor, and note that the shower is only available until 11pm. I also received a free coupon for the nearby public bath. Though it’s small and old, with only one onsen pool that’s quite hot, it’s still worth trying.

Great Hostel in the little town of Unzen. The employee is such a nice guy and he shows you around very enthusiasticly. It's very cool to make daytrips to the Unzen national park. There are even a few restaurants in walking distance of the hostel.

The futon is a little thin if you are a side sleeper like my partner you may struggle. I was fine on my back!

Really good communication before and upon arrival. Jenny was so friendly and helpful. We loved sitting in the communal area and that we could make our own food as we are veggies. The location is perfect, right in the middle of the town.

We rode bikes up the mountain in driving rain and when we arrived the awesome staff at Tsudoi were helpful and got us warm and dry. It is a budget hostel and everything was clean and comfortable
