Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

GreeceVery nice accomodation, friendly staff, nice location. Everything was organised, with japanese precision. The dinner served was extravagant and a real suprise! The Japanese breakfast was not to our liking, but it was an experience non the less. the only thing that could be different was that the doors lock at 23:00, so there is no opportunity for a late night drink or walk.

JapanThe on-property bath is quite small but since it is so close to the public baths this is not a big con in my opinion.
I’ve stayed at Tsuruya Ryokan twice now and it has always been a wonderful experience. It is very conveniently located near two of the onsen and the cable car to Onsenji. The food is delicious and plentiful and the staff is very kind. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms clean. While not as fancy as some of the other ryokan available in Kinosaki, I would gladly stay here again.

CanadaN/A - stay was truly exceptional!
Our stay at Tsuruya Ryokan was truly exceptional. Centrally located within Kinosaki Onsen within walking distance of the majority of Onsen's and shops in the town. Right across the street from Kinosaki Onsen Ropeway. The rooms were traditional Japanese rooms with good amounts of space. Resort was very quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The private onsens in the resort were also a great experience and allowed for a truly private onsen experience compared to the public baths. The truly exceptional part of this stay had to be the food however. The provided breakfasts and dinners were absolutely amazing. The amount of meat and fish was exceptional, the food tasted amazing and the menu creation was great. The whole experience was one of a kind. The staff were always welcoming and made us feel at home each time we stepped into the resort. I would highly recommend Tsuruya Ryokan to anyone looking for a truly exceptional Onsen and food experience while in Kinosaki Onsen. We cannot wait to come back and visit Tsuruya Ryokan again in the near future!

United StatesThe sink in our room had no hot water, which made it hard to get ready in the morning. The room was also pretty cold, but they provided a space heater which did an amazing job. The ryokan was further in from the town, but close to three of the seven onsens.
Wonderful way to stay in Kinosaki onsen town! As a group of two, the family room was huge. The stay itself was a whole experience, and the staff were great at explaining everything. Included in the stay was a yukata set (three piece robe), wooden base, and wooden sandals to wear to the onsen. Dinner was fabulous crab feast with many courses we could barely finish it all! Also included in the stay was a nice western breakfast and an onsen egg making experience. They also have their own private onsen that you can book for 40 min.

SingaporeRoom: Building was quite old (not complaining on the age of building itself but) the walls are having almost no sound prove. Pricing: The pricing of onsen hotels at Kinosaki area is just insane, you can stay at top tier hotels like Hoshino Resorts KAI for similar price at other not so popular onsen towns
Dinner: The crab pot and crab grill for dinner were beyond my expectation. Though the quality of other dishes for dinner can be improved.

MalaysiaHas to return to the property by 2300h. While booking the property, the photo of the property seemed to suggest that the dinner would serve both beef and crab. Turns out it is dependent on luck, as beef and crab are served on alternate days. Do check with property before making booking.
Good location with free parking. Onsen within facility is private. Provision of bath pass for public bath is a plus.

Reasonable price for breakfast and dinner. The location was not the closest but still convenient where it was close to two public onsens and restaurants. After getting out from the train station we decided to walk to the hotel which was very doable plus on the way there were many shops to check out! Staff was very nice and our room was spacious. I really enjoyed just chilling inside their traditional Japanese room. For those who are not comfortable to share bath with others, Tsuruya have their bath by reservation. You don't have to share with other people and only enjoy with your family!

United KingdomIt’s worth noting that there are no showers & the private Onsen on site can only be booked in the afternoon (once per sat) during your stay. It doesn’t really matter as closer Onsen is around 1 minute’s walking distance but I didn’t understand the situation when I booked.
Closet to the most picturesque Onsen & easy walk to the rest. Yukata free to use. Great, authentic dinner & breakfast. Kind & helpful staff.

South AfricaThe dinners were nice, but pretty much the same - woudl have been nice to get variation, and not the same either such or foods that you cook yourself. Vegetarian options are basically non-existent. if you only eat fish be prepared for a LOT of crab. They locked the doors at a certain time each night which I didn't like, I think it was 22h30 or 323h00 - we should be able to stay out as late as we need to. Pillows are made from pebbles I think - so be prepared for a different sleep, not easy to get used to.
Good location - at the far end of town, so a little out the way if you need to walk, but close to the cable way and a nice pretty quiet part of town. Private onsen was great. Staff were very friendly - although no-one could really talk English, but they tried. In general it was very clean, quiet and as described.

AustraliaNot a criticism but Be aware there are no toilets and showers in most rooms. You use the shared toilets and the private hot spa bath in the hotel or the public baths. This is all part of the experience so embrace it. You sleep on the floor on Futons and these and the pillows could be a bit softer would be my only feedback
Wonderful traditional Japanese Ryokan experience Situated across from the cable car at the far end of Kinosaki Onsen but there is a shuttle bus from the station for check in and it’s really an easy walk to the station out on your last day. Wonderful banquets for dinner and a lavish Japanese style breakfast one morning we stayed and a simpler but delightful western breakfast on the other day. Situated just around the corner from the best Onsen (public spa baths) in town and right next door to the second best Staff lovely and friendly and welcoming

ThailandPrices in this Kinosaki are on the higher side, this Ryokan is more reasonable but still it is a lot of money. We felt the rooms were quite basic, and the materials for futons and sheets, pillows felt really cheap. We had to make our own sleeping place. On the second day we had to have l breakfast outside. No internal bath facilities were available on departure date, the closer public houses were closed that day. So some highlights but also some areas we felt were not so impressive. We booked really late so still happy that we could come and the staff were outstanding.
The staff were really really good. So friendly and nice. The breakfast was also amazingly presented. They had nice clear system and all the equipment needed for Onsen. We did not have the dinner, but people said it was very good.
