Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaA few bugs around, nothing major but still of note (moths mainly) Shower area is a bit small for trying to change clothes in the washroom Front desk clerk copied my res card without asking to copy it (only passports are required to be copied). I didn't say anything about it at the time as it wasn't worth it, but I would have said no if he had been clear that was what he planned to do.
Good location, short walk from the station. Rooms are a good size! The room code is a QR code which you can take a pic of and use your phone to get in and out, which is super convenient! There is of course train noise, but they provide ear plugs near the front area!

Australiaas a family travelling, we had our luggage delivered to each hotel so we were not lugging it around with our toddler. all other hotels we stayed at helped us with reservations and organising it. unfortunately this hotel doesn’t have this service but it was ok because the convenience store around the corner did it and we just rolled it down there to do this. did not disrupt our stay though, it was lovely and we would still stay there again!
great location, friendly staff, clean place to stay. Hotel is as titled, under a railway, we are very heavy sleepers as a family so we didn’t mind it, it didn’t bother us at all.

United StatesThe bathroom was the only thing that I did not like. More especially the toilet, too small and tight in every way, but only if you are taking a number 2.

United KingdomThe sound-proofing between the rooms is not great. Our room was unfortunately right next to one occupied by obnoxiously loud Americans (playing super loud music, shouting and slamming doors at midnight in a hotel where the doors have amortization!?). I am a bit deaf and usually never hear what happens in adjacent rooms, but these people I could hear perfectly clearly. However the lady at the reception was very kind and obviously did everything she could to help. That said, the hotel ought to invest in better sound-proofing between the rooms, it was too light.
After 14 hours on a plane, the very kind staff at Under Railway Hotel allowed us to check-in an hour early, which made a huge difference for our entire stay! We loved everything about it — the place is modern, looks very cool, the rooms and beds are comfortable and the bathrooms, while small, are equipped with an excellent shower. The bar area at the entrance was also a really good place to unwind after a day spent walking around the busy city. We also really appreciated that they stored our luggage for a few hours after check-out too! Everything was always clean and we loved the little extras they provided, especially the body scrubber! Lastly, after discovering that our umbrella was too heavy to carry around all day, we found out that we could easily borrow a light, transparent one from the reception, which was a great bonus. All in all, this is a place that you can tell people put great effort into. As for the sound: with my partner being a light sleeper we were a bit worried, but we shouldn’t have been; yes, the trains were loud, but the hotel very kindly provided ear plugs, and the trains stop between midnight and 5AM. If anything, we both found the sound of trains quite soothing rather than annoying.

United KingdomYou can definitely hear the trains running above the room, for us it wasn't that much of a disturbance but can be annoying for light sleepers that want to sleep in late or go to bed early. the trains do stop during the night after midnight ish until maybe 5am ish.
The room was really nice, clean and comfortable, the hotel will store your bags for free before/after check in which is great! The staff is really helpful, the small caffe has really affordable breakfast/lunch items which are delicious.

AustraliaThe beds could be a bit firmer; this is only due to my having back issues, the room size is on the small size, but as expected for Japan.
Closeness to the station and fantastic amenities. While you hear the trains overhead, I never felt it was an issue, we thought it added to the atmosphere of the hotel. Very good value for money.

CanadaNeed to be aware that, as the name states, you are directly under the railway and WILL hear the train/metro above you. Not an issue for us heavy sleepers, but best be aware for light sleepers!
The hotel is great and located squarely in Akihabara. It’s definitely a tight squeeze but was perfect for our needs!

SwedenThere were some small damages left from other visitors in the room and you can hear the trains running overhead. I’m not bothered by that but there might be some who are. There was a small problem with a misunderstanding about how long we would be staying but it was easily fixed. the ladder up to the bunk bed made me a bit uneasy.
Cheap, comfortable and close to Akihabara station.

AustraliaSmall room, whilst the trains are running in the day and night you will hear the traintrack noise from your room - so just keep this in mind when booking if you are a light sleeper as you are likely to be awoken.
