Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesA bit small than expected but you will get used to it.
Quick responses. They gave me a room on the first floor so I don’t have to walk upstairs with my suitcases.

AustraliaNo place to leave your luggage if you arrive early. Rental bicycle Fuune down the road has good bicycles and will hold your luggage. And let you rent overnight. 4pm checkin is a standard, but I would like earlier.
Extra long review to help those visiting Kyoto and to hopefully provide feedback to see if they listen and improve or if you have similar experiences. First off, check-in was unnecessarily difficult. All messages sent from the booking.com app were in Japanese and there are no easy ways to translate unless you cut and paste backwards and forwards in and out of the app. The app would then link to a website with more details. The tablet at reception didn’t seem to work. The response was always very quick and I was able to check-in early as my room was ready. Hopefully they will improve. If you are looking for the key box it is at knee/shin height. I walked backwards and forward many times until I looked down and found it. There are no elevators in the building, so ask for rooms 101-105 if you have luggage you don’t want to lug upstairs. There was no washing machine powder/capsules, which might have been a greedy guest, but there are oodles of other cleaning equipment. You can not turn of the light from the bed. My room on the first floor had a door behind the bed head (I guess it was built for a single bed) which was a little drafty in the morning. The blinds are very fancy, but do not block the light from outside if you like a dark room. There are two large cabinets in the room, but I used them to put my luggage on top so I didn’t need to bend down. These are not in the photos. All the equipment was well maintained. It was spotlessly clean (like everything in Japan) There are bicycle rental shops nearby. I strongly recommend riding in Kyoto if the weather permits. There is no clear place for parking a bicycle. No options for a car (who has a car in Kyoto)

CanadaThe check in process was non existent. I didn’t receive information from booking.com or the hotel on how to check in and was stuck outside the hotel for 2 hours trying to sort out what to do. I eventually had to turn on my phone data and be charged for international calls to try and sort it out- very disappointing. The room also had two of the smallest pillows I have ever seen that had no support and the most uncomfortable mattress ever. I sent an email asking for another pillow (there is no staff on sight) and they told me to unlock a closet in the hotel with a code - I could not find any closets but there were two lockers in our room that took up a ton of space marked not for guests do not use- that were unlocked and empty. Over all if I had received check in information I probably could have overlooked the other bits as it was a good location and clean but there is no customer services and I water half a day in Kyoto standing out front a hotel with no way to get inside
Location, quiet, clean

New ZealandThere is no elevator and this wasn’t disclosed when booking, we were placed on the third floor and had to carry 2 big suitcases up and down for our stay. Would not recommended staying here if you are traveling with large luggage or have issues with mobility/stairs. Bathroom was extremely small and wasn’t very clean, there wasn’t much room in the studio itself and there was two giant lockers in the room that you can’t use that took up half the floor space. There was a random door behind our bed frame that was unlocked and we didn’t know where it went too which felt a little unsafe, the bed itself was rather uncomfortable and we only had two very small thin pillows (we requested more but was denied.) The hotel has very thin walls, we could hear everything from the other rooms/hallways and it made it very hard to sleep.
Decent location, owner was responsive.

AustraliaThe room was overall too small and not as advertised. I expected a hotel and that wasn't what I got. Weren't off to a good start that my locker didn't wasn't labelled correctly and I hope you like carrying your heavy luggage up stairs because there's no elevator. You can everything coming from the hallway. If the rooms closest to yours are unlocking and locking their rooms, you'd think it was yours they're trying to get into. You have to climb into bed, literally. Between the very small desk and the bed, very little room to squeeze through and if you do manage that, you have to compose your balance and not hit your head or shoulders on the TV that's mounted on the wall. The desk is way too small. if you're above the height of about 5'7 you will not be able to tuck yourself under the table. My room had a random black cabinet that I wasn't even allowed to use but would have come in handy if I could. The drying function in the washing machine and in the bathroom were pretty useless and if you don't manage your time right and if this isn't your last stop before going home you maybe going to your next destination with stinky wet clothes.
It had decent toilet paper.
