Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeLocation is far from any family mart or 7-11
Breakfast, snacks & dinner was all inclusive, including alcohol beverages. Food was good and its buffet style. Onsen pool is great as well. There is an outdoor & indoor pool. Its not recommended if you are planning to do 1 night stay due to it being secluded. Its 55mins bus ride from kinugawa onsen station and you get off at the end stop. Hotel is right next to the bus stop. Perfect winter escape if you love the cold.

United StatesNothing to do in the area. Have to go quite far to the train station, shuttle needs more pick up times available. Did not have much time to enjoy the town.
staff was wonderful and flexible. Glad some of them were able to understand English as well for tourists. Food was great. Wait staff was fantastic.

AustraliaA little bit remote so public transport is on the tricky side, do your research and give yourself plenty of time to arrive earlier rather than later. It is definitely worth it!
Beautiful onsen with wonderful staff, meal service was unique and tasty! Room was very spacious and amenities were plentiful, would stay again!

ItalyI've given the location 1 star, not because the place is bad because the environment and nature are truly breathtaking, but because the place is really impossible to reach. There are barely any trains or buses that reach the hotel, if you want to go for just 1 day I would definitely advise against it.
An amazing place! The hotel is beautiful, the meals are from another planet, the onsen is wonderful, absolutely like nothing else I've ever tried!

SingaporeUnpleasant smell at the main door next to the shoe rack. Resolved after spraying the air freshener provided. However, the smell is present every time you returned to the room from outside. After informing the front desk, the problem cannot be solved. There is no dressing table for putting on makeup and the corners are dim. Had to use the sink area for makeup. Futons are thin and 1 small pillow per adult with base made of beans are a little uncomfortable. The height of sink (in most onsen & hotels) is very low. So it’s a bit back-breaking for tall people. Air con return fan in the TV room is very loud. Had to switch it off before sleeping at night.
Hotel very responsive in communication re hotel information. The room (10+6 tatami mats equivalent to 54 sq m) is spacious for 4 adults. There is a bedroom with 2 futons on the left next to main entrance. The right is a living room which has ample space for 2 futons and a table with cushions seats backing. It would be better to have a huge living area with 4 futons and table space to unwind over green tea instead of a separate bedroom area. Bathroom & toilet area is spacious with 2 sinks. There is a free drink cafe on 1st floor where you can chill out after onsen. Yuzu drink is refreshing. You can purchase the carton drink at the souvenir shop. Iced beverages are self served at the machines. 1st night Kaiseki dinner is seasonal appetiser, sashimi, grilled skewers of river fish, miso Tsukune, mochi. Main course is Nikko pork shabu shabu which is average. However, they run out of white rice only left grilled rice ball with dashi soup which is delicious. The table is quite low so we are not very comfortable with the table height and normal chair height . Took us a while to adjust. Japanese Breakfast next day main is salmon which is delicious. Yuba hotpot with enoki mushrooms and vegetables is tasty. 2nd night Kaiseki dinner main course was beef tapanyaki was very delicious. It was served with yuba rice. Prawns, potatoes, yuba and small scallops in skewers. Japanese Breakfast next day main is grilled fish. Japanese bean curd is extraordinarily delicious in a hotpot. Indoor onsen is average however, the outdoor onsen is nice.

AustraliaThe rooms are a little dated but clean. I had a shower and the bathroom floor flooded - not sure if the drain was blocked ? Not a huge issue though. More info online with website where to book local direct train tickets would have been great as it’s not obvious how to get there if not driving and if you’re not familiar with the area.
Great location, right next to the snow lantern festival. Modern lobby and lounge. Free tea coffee and juices at anytime and self serve wine - great choices at reasonable cost. Free ramen for guests from 9-10.30 pm was a nice touch and the onsen was a unique experience - from images I thought it was outside but it’s enclosed by glass. Wish they sold the pyjamas they provide in the room as very comfortable. Staff very friendly, google translate came in handy

JapanThe location for sightseeing within the village was great - just across from Heike no Sato folk village and a bus stop - but buses don't run very often. We inquired about a taxi to the train station on departure day only to find out that it had been booked ... it seems there is only one in town. The bus schedule has been changed in recent years and doesn't really match up to any trains going north. It only matches the departures heading south (to Tokyo).
Based on previous reviews, I was prepared to be a bit underwhelmed but our stay at Kamenoi Hotel was lovely. The bedroom was large and the beds were comfortable; we had a great view of the Heike no Sato folk village just next door. The food was delicious and served in a unique setting (sitting around a fireplace - irori - in a dining hall). The onsen was nice and never crowded. For the price we paid, it was an incredibly good value for our stay.

CanadaWe had a ryokan family room that overlooked the mountainside abd there were monkeys playing in the trees. That was so great. The food is exceptional and quite the experience. Three course meals. With tepanyaki and shabu shabu and delicious meats. I’m a vegetarian who eats non fishy fishy and there was plenty for me to eat. Really fantastic experience my teenagers were happy. The onsens are sweet. My favourite was to be outside. It was so hot I had to take many standing breaks. I prefer to be outside and had the bath to myself. Most women found it too hot! The unfortunate detail is getting there and getting around to other places. The hotel is very difficult to get and from. It’s best if you have car. We booked for three nights not realizing how remote the place is. It’s spring so the little town is mostly closed with one restaurant that we found open for lunch. It’s probably such a cute little town in the winter with the snow and even a few weeks from now when the trees will be in bloom. You can get here by train and a bus but the times are limited. It would be good if the hotel had a shuttle to get you to and from the train station which is about twenty five minutes away. The bus come three times a day. Last bus at 530 and if you’re wanting to go explore Nikko it’s a problem. We ended taking a taxi home from Nikko that cost us 175oo yen. Also, even a shuttle to help you get to the bus stop with all of our luggage would have been nice. Over all, I’m glad we stayed here for the experience. Compared to other hotels we saw, even in kunigawa, this one is a higher standard with less people and more opportunity to relax.

JapanThere are some areas that need attention like the cobwebs on windows and toilets, availability of tissue in the room, the air conditioning unit's heater is not working well, the heating machine emits the smell of gas making it seem like there's a car engine in the room fuming with gas.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the food is of excellent quality.

BrazilOne or two of the front desk staff spoke SOME English, but the rest were completely unable to communicate outside of Japanese, which made things difficult on many occasions. We went with our one year old baby. There is NOTHING baby friendly at this hotel! The first few meals (half board plan) they just served another adult meal, even though i specified baby´s age on every check in form. After we went to the reception to say we didn´t need another adult meal, they started serving what I guess they consider kids menu. It was SCARY. Everything deep fried, enormous amounts and huge hunks of food, salad that even an adult would struggle to eat, plus it all always looked like it was cooked a week ago - dull, soggy and cold. I never gave my baby any of it. When we again went to speak to the reception, I asked that they just make her any vegetable soup (corn soup had been served once, so I literally asked to just serve her that), but they only did so once in the remaining 3 days (6 meals). With not even a combini in the town, we really struggled with this! Most days we went all the way to NIkko in order to get at least an edible lunch that we could all enjoy). As for our own food, the bbq was nice, but the dishes themselves were on repeat. We were there for only 5 nights, and I feel like we had the exact same meal at least twice.
It only looks close to Nikko :) In fact, the hotel is in a remote location. Great for just staying in, not so great if you want to be out and about. The onsen facilities are REALLY old but the water is nice and there was plenty of space so it did not feel crowded. We enjoyed the hot springs.
