Absolutely nothing at all. The only downside was that we weren’t staying longer!

Everything! The welcome was amazing. Didn’t expect the service we received so it was fantastic! The private onsen you can book out for free (twice per day!) was a brilliant surprise after our day of traveling. Breakfast included was perfect. All the staff were so friendly and helpful which really was the cherry on top!

The only small downside is the location, since it's not super close to the points of interest BUT it's just a short walk away. Straight line to Takayama station and nohi bus. It was not a big deal.

Such a beautiful modern ryokan. Very clean. Staff was super kind, they speak some english and it was enough. I loved the room with the garden view, wonderful! The outside onsen was a nice experience (no problem with tatoos or couples, very friendly for first timers). Delicious breakfast, it was japanese one day, western the next.

Would have liked a little more space in the room.

The manager was so very helpful phoning a previous hotel for me to arrange for some lost property to be sent on. All the staff were lovely. Breakfast was a good experience as was the onsen, although not so much the evening it poured with rain.

Beds were quite firm and the shower didn't get super hot.

The staff were amazing, so welcoming. Breakfast was delightful with alternative days between Western and Japanese food. You can reserve the private onsen for a specific time and it was wonderful. The room was very spacious and you get robes to wear which was lovely.the courtyard is beautiful and makes for a great breakfast view.

Beautiful hotel with a traditional feel. Strictly no shoe policy I loved! Private onsen was so lovely in the garden area. All areas very clean, beautiful breakfast plus a take away breakfast as we checked out early. Highly recommend.

We loved everything! I was at this hotel 5 years ago and when we've planned this trip to Japan Takayama was on our Must Do list. Immediately decided to search for Ichinomatsu and book it. Onsen is still amazing (even got a lot of snow), breakfast is probably one of the best in our Japan trip and the staff is very kind and helpful. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. We will be back!

The pillow is too soft

They served nice breakfast. The staff are friendly and helpful. Located approximately 10mins from Takayama Station by foot. Indoor onsen provided is a plus, the garden view is pretty.

The heating system goes with the AC, is not only very random (we never understood how to make it work consistently) and very very noisy, which deteriorated our nights

We had just checked out from our stay in this hotel but got stranded in the city due to heavy snow in the region, so we had to spend an extra night in Takayama. Upon a quick research and finding similar prices around town, we decided to book a room again here even though it was a bit more expensive - the onsen was the main point :) Also, the staff was kind enough to help us by calling our hotel in Nagano to tell them we wouldn't be able to arrive that day.

Not really the hotel's fault, but if you're staying on the ground floor, you might hear some stomping from the 2nd floor - it was particularly annoying as guests above were loud. As a feedback, I think the hotel's staff can highlight a 'quiet rule' after a certain time (like after 22h) during check-in.

I'd stayed in this hotel before a few years ago and it was a no brainer to book it again. Amazing staff, great space, the private onsen is such a great feature.

We have to change slippers too many times, end up we forgotten which pair is for which purpose already. I hope the owner can simplify this rule or differentiate the purpose of slippers by colours. (example, black for outdoor, white strictly for indoors)

This is a quite well maintained property, we have our comfortable stay, the gardens was lovely and nice especially when it snows. Private Onsen considered clean. Overall it was great. For travel guide, it is great on some recommendations of food, but maybe can also have ENGLISH option?

There was no immediate sidewalk when you step off the property. When you walk towards the road there really isn’t much to walk except the drainage bricks.

The breakfast was splendid, loved the Japanese style breakfast. They do give you an option during check in, which is lovely. I also enjoyed coming back to the onsen upon return from long walks.

Fantastic little getaway. Close to train station and an absolute gem of a place. There is a private onsen that you can book and it was magical watching the snow fall through the roof opening while soaking in the hot onsen. Breakfast included and the yukata and yukata overcoat provided were plenty warm to quickly walk between the lounge and the room. The rooms has ample space inside to open luggage.
