Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeWalls abit thin. Not sure if It will disturb the neighbours if the children are running around. Only Japanese channels were available on TV. Toilets were a little small.
Quiet part of the neighborhood, away from the touristy areas. Good restaurants nearby, 711 and supermarket 5 mins walk away. Video arcade also around 5 mins away. Service was good. Safe for the kids to move around the premises. Public bath allows tattoos.

FranceThe room we had was maybe a bit small for 4 people, but still worked pretty well.
The ryoken is located at 10min from the train & bus station. The room was lovely with a view on the garden and onsen. The breakfast every morning was delicious, varied and so adorable in a bento box. The onsen was so nice, you can book a slot everyday and enjoy the warm water on your own. Would definitely recommend.

United StatesThe staff was so pleasant and easy to work with. Gorgeous traditional breakfast boxes were available each morning along with coffee and tea. There was a lovely private garden bath that was available by signup. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. The owner checked us out and went out of his way to help us with a ride to the station, which was nearby but with my heavy bag and a sore knee, it was a godsend. I definitely recommend it.

SingaporeRoom for 4 was a little tight. We were still comfortable though No restaurants nearby so have to walk to the main turn area (about 20 mins?).
Breakfast /lounge area was very pleasant. Nice to have tea and coffee, both hot and cold, at easy access. V thoughtful. Onsen was nice and clean too, though the gaps in the wooden slats were a bit wide. If someone were to stand outside privacy would be compromised

AustraliaAll pretty good. The onsen could have been hotter (nice to have an option for this)
A very nice ryokan with friendly staff, a bookable private onsen, a lovely lounge / kitchen area, and terrific kaiseki breakfast. The hotel is a nice boutique size and a very pleasant place to stay. A bit of a walk to the station and the historic centre, but not too bad. Yukata etc provided.

United StatesThe reservations we made had no changes and no refunds at all. I assumed it was due to the Sanno Festival happening that weekend. Glad we got this room! So maybe an unavoidable problem.
Very nice modern Japanese style retreat. Modern self key code for lobby, common room for breakfast and relaxing, peaceful inner court garden, and a shared public bath (private use, by sign up time slots). Rooms are spacious compared to some Japanese hotels. Breakfast is bento box style with beverage buffet and good coffee! Casual and simple atmosphere. Location is a bit out of the way but within walking distance to main shopping district. We signed up for a local food demo by Don, an izakaya owner. Very informative and tasty and he even introduced us to local specialty stores since he knew shopownwers. Sanno Festival on its first day was very crowded but worth seeing the handcrafted floats up close.

AustraliaThe bento breakfast box had too much white bread and we would have preferred a Japanese style option.
We had a suite overlooking a small garden. It was spacious. The outdoor bath was lovely. The common area overlooking the back courtyard was restful. It is on the quiet side of town close to the station and an easy walk to the Hida complex. Our best stay in Japan!

FinlandThe only drawback was that the onsen could only be used for 30 min per room a day, even though there were only a few reservations and the onsen was free most of the time. We were three persons and would have liked to have two 30 min slots. Also the breakfast was pretty basic, although the coffee was good.
The room was very beautiful and the beds were comfy. The small onsen was nice.

CanadaThe beds are very close to the floor, it could be a problem for some people.
It is close to the railway station. Has a definite Japanese flavor. There is a nice lounge with tea and coffee. The onsen is small but lovely. You book a private time. Breakfast is served in a bento box but it is western flavor.
