Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdom15 min walk from old town, but also closer to the folk village, which was helpful, and close to station.
Very nice, modern hotel, but with traditional design and features. Staff were extremely helpful - they booked restaurants for us, made suggestions, and even forwarded our lost luggage to Tokyo for us. Highly recommended. Onsen and breakfast boxes also excellent.

As a first timer to experience Ryokan, we are spoiled with the modern facilities there (hot spring, breakfast and the amenities that been prepared, the staff is so helpful, one of them take their time to let us know how to use coin laundry. And the girl that we met on the check out day, she gave us a ride to Takayama station because I came back to return the adaptor that I lent during the stay. Even though the ryokan is traditional culture but Ichinomatsu can create a modern clean that make our stay feel more comfortable, easy and relaxing

PolandThe futon was quite thin. Most ryokans i stayed at had futons at least twice as thick. Comments about me traveling on my own were also not appreciated
The onsen was excellent, the lounge with proper coffee machine was a nice touch. The room was very clean and nice. The hotel is in a quiet area.

CanadaConveniently located, efficient and friendly service. Nice personal touches were found throughout the property and inside the rooms, which truly added to the entire experience. The check-in process was breezy but did not feel rushed at any point. The innkeeper was very friendly and provided us with all the information we needed for our stay. The rooms were clean, elegant and cozy; I especially appreciated the lighting choice - it provided a very warm and comforting feel. The beautiful outdoor garden along with the private heated bath were also highlights that make you realize - Wow, I'm really in Japan. The breakfast was spectacular, and easily a meal that I still think about constantly, despite the fact that my stay was one month ago. Check-out was extremely easy, and our great night's rest provided us with all the energy we needed to venture off to our next stop in Gifu. Thank you Ichinomatsu Japanese Modern Hotel for your hospitality. My partner and I would love to stay here again the next time we are in Takayama.

New ZealandThere was nothing about the Ichinomatsu Modern Japanese Hotel that we didn't like. Everything was great. One of our rooms was upstairs and bags had to be carried up, but that wasn't a deal breaker. Staff were so helpful
We liked everything about this gorgeous little hotel. the fact that it had only a small number of rooms was one of the great things about it. From the time you ring the door bell, you are well taken care of

United KingdomNothing. Everything was great.
This was a quaint little hotel. We received the warmest welcome, and the manager was so helpful with my veggie/vegan diet needs, telling us about the best local places to go to. The room was fantastic, absolutely loved the yukata! Very peaceful garden space and great facilities in the kitchen and dining area. We were given a Japanese breakfast box in the morning, which went down very well. Though, I only ate the fruit inside and gave the non veg food to my friend. We didn't have time to use the onsen, but had a peak when there was nobody inside and it looked lovely. In other Japanese hotels I have stayed in, they try to cram people into tiny spaces, but this was a good size for two people in a twin room. Its in easy walking distance from the train station and to the city centre. The best hospitality I have received, and I have travelled a lot.

United KingdomThis is a great homely hotel with an excellent private Onsen. The information at check-in was thorough. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. The Onsen after your day exploring or trekking (we went to Kamikochi for the day) was welcomed and relaxing. The Izakaya type restaurants which were recommended by the owner, and about a 10 - 15 min walk away, we're great too. All in all, we loved our time here.

United KingdomA lovely, clean, smaller hotel in a good location, which included an onsen to relax in at the end of a days exploring. A breakfast box was included, which was nice to start the day with. We had only a little luggage (rucksacks) so the walk from the train / bus station (which are nextdoor to each other) was quick and easy. The Check-in process and explanation of how everything worked was thorough (leave yourself some time for this).
