Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe room was spacious and comfortable but the shower and toilet facilities are a bit cramped. The toilet door also didn't close properly.

AustraliaPerfect location by the river and main attractions. Very clean and well maintained. Small onsen but I had it to myself the whole stay. Breakfast was OK - probably on the better end of the hotel breakfasts we had in Japan.

FranceI booked a single room on booking but was kindly upgraded by the host to a bigger room with a balcony. I could also take the breakfast a bit earlier, the host was very flexible. Everything was very clean and the food very good. The onsen is also perfectly located in shuzenji onsen.

United StatesThe room / place was a bit older and not perfectly spotless (some dust), but I don't care about such things. It was a great stay and ryokan. My room was across from the nice and well appointed, communal sink area, but that was no problem at all. I didn't see or hear anyone out there. The nice sound of the river running helped make everything feel quiet and peaceful.
This was a great place, especially for the value. Right on the river; a nice traditional feel. Spacious room. Nice small balcony / sitting area facing the river. Good breakfast, worth it. Terrific location. Walkable to main sites in the town like the main temple and nearby shrine, shops, restaurants, and river that runs right by the river. Great view of the river off the balcony, by the way.

JapanWe departed from Tokyo and got stuck in a traffic jam. When we called the property we would arrive shortly after 11pm, we were told the onsen will close at 11pm sharp (I haven’t found any information about it anywhere on their website or here). The owner was very apathetic and when we asked him what where are we supposed to shower then, he just said “onsen closes at 11pm for everyone, if you want to make it, hurry up”. There was no willingness no come up with a solution. Fortunately, we speed up and arrived at 11:05pm and were informed that the owner is willing to let us take shower, but will close at 11:15pm. So yes, the property is nice, the staff not so much. It was our second time to stay there, the first time we had breakfast which was rather mediocre, this time we went to a place nearby and it was absolutely delicious, so I would recommend that instead.
Location is amazing as well as the rooms. Very spacious and clean.

CanadaNot a complaint about the property, but everything in the town that it's located in closes around 5pm, so make sure you've secured a meal.
The location is amazing and easy to get to from Mishima or surrounding cities. It took me 2 hours to get there from Mt.Fuji. Very nice town to walk around and see local sights. Not busy at all and can give you time to enjoy peace and quiet in nature. Very good value for a night's stay as well.

JapanToilet is quite cramped and there is 1 squat toilet and 1 normal sitting toilet. Got bad hayfever while sleeping but it was the season. River makes noise but it is a constant noise so can sleep ok. (No black out curtains, just Shoji)
Nice bath with onsen water, Good Riverside views. Great staff, and great breakfast (starting at 8am or 8:30am). Location is very best the Hakoyu traditional public onsen.

JapanThere’s only one western toilet and one Japanese style toilet for the entire property, which does not feel it’s enough. Onsen is cute, a bit tiny, but it’s okay.
Very spacious room and only few of them, so it feels like you have the entire ryokan to yourself! Definitely beautiful location.

AustraliaNothing wrong with the property, mostly just the area of Shuzenji, which just doesn’t have too much to do. Small sight seeing areas, a cute little town with nice people who own small restaurants and stores, lots of older houses in the area as well. But that’s the extent of Shuzenji. So if you plan to visit, I wouldn’t recommend too many nights there, as there isn’t a lot to do there. This is all on the outlook of a tourist.
It’s a nice taste for traditional hotels, the onsen was small but comfortable. The place doesn’t get too much people in, so in my case I had the whole place to myself basically which made the experience a little lonely. Sadly I didn’t try the breakfast they provide, but from the reviews of the small restaurant connected I’m sure it would taste nice.

SingaporeThere is no shower place (common/private), only an small onsen with a wash area. As it is July, I find it too hot for onsen. The WC is small but ok for me. Bigger/taller person might find the space tight.
Took a taxi (about 1300 JPY) to go as I didn't know what bus to take. Took a bus back to the train station when departing after I was shown where the bus stop is. Staff cooked a sumptious meal for breakfast. If you finish all the food, you wouldn't need lunch! The ryokan is just by the bamboo forrest/garden and you can hear the river flow, especially at night. Room is spacious and airy + air-con. You have to set up your own beddings on the floor in the room. There are many good food places nearby. It's a good choice for a weekend stay if you are visiting Shuzenji.
