Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IsraelIt's not about not liking, just a matter of setting expectations. It's a hostel, bathrooms and shower are shared, but very clean. The walls between the rooms are exceptionally thin, so don't expect privacy
Baba is an exceptional host, fluent in English and fun to talk with and help with everything you need. The place has a unique vibe, encouraging interaction between guests and a nice place to hang

SingaporeThere may be large spiders in the house if you are scared of them. I had one next to me that I told I will be leaving soon so please don't move. ;)
A home away from home that was comfortable and comforting. The hostess Barbara is very warm and hospitable and gave the best recommendations to suit the traveller's needs. The place is as described and we loved the Japanese style room we slept in on the 2nd floor. We stayed 7 nights and cooked in the kitchen, hung out with the other guests and Babara and had a jolly good time! Loved the place and want to come back!

SwitzerlandHaving a car was very helpful, the buses don't drive often on Yakushima. But the location is reasonably close to Miyanoura port. After a few days on the island I discovered that hitchhiking is very easy on Yakushima. For the adventurous travellers this is probably the cheapest and fastest way to move about the island.
The host was amazing, one of the most cheerful person I have met in Japan. I was completely in awe when I saw the interior of the house, so beautiful. The old house was renovated while preserving the soul of the almost 100 years old building.

United KingdomThe location is a little far from the hubs (eg there are no restaurants very close by) but with a car this is not a problem and there is a beautiful kitchen to cook in.
The host is incredible and the house is so traditional and beautiful

IsraelNothing. It’s a great place
Wonderful place. Great location, Beautiful landscape from the window In a small village on the north shore of the island. The highlight is the owner Kimika is one of the nicest people I met in Japan. She is very friendly and helpful. She is a calligraphy artist and she gave us a demo. It was fascinating. We had a wonderful time over there thanks to her friendly and generous personality. I highly recommend staying in the special place. It made my experience in Yakushima.

United KingdomThe guesthouse is not soundproof, but this is 100% part of the charm.
This place immediately felt like home. Very traditional guesthouse with an amazing host. We had a really good time and this was the perfect base to explore Yakushima for us. We also enjoyed socialising with other guests.

BelgiumNothing. It’s better to have a car when visiting, as it gives you more freedom. And if you are a very light sleeper, you might need earplugs. Because the house is so old, you can hear your upstairs neighbour a bit. Didn’t bother us at all though! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay.
If you love staying at a traditional Japanese house and sleeping on futon, this is the perfect place for you. The host is super friendly, speaks perfect English and helps you wherever she can. The kitchen and common space are clean and well equipped. The shower room and toilet are also really new.

CanadaThe hostel is a bit out of the way and would be difficult to access without a car. As long as you have a car, I would recommend this place. The island bus schedule is not very accommodating for visitors and if you miss one bus, it could ruin your plans for the entire day, especially if you plan to do any of the longer hikes.
The host was super friendly and helpful. She was welcoming and gave us lots of recommendations on hikes and places to eat. The room was very spacious and the futon beds were surprisingly comfortable. The house has a lot of character. It's an older wood building and it has lots of creaky floors, but the common room is large and there is a full kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms and two shower rooms.

FranceNONE everything was perfect
Everything was truly exceptional! The host is incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Her hospitality and generosity went above and beyond, even inviting us to a wonderful dinner with her neighbors, where we made beautiful connections. The entire property is stunning, with traditional Japanese architecture and beautifully designed rooms. The kitchen is well-equipped with high-quality coffee and tea available, making our stay comfortable and memorable. Highly recommended! I really hope to come back one day.

GermanyIf you don’t have a car it’s quite tricky to get here. You can take the bus which operates every hour from the port or take a cab which costs around 3000¥. Otherwise it’s located in a beautiful village called isso.
I just love this 宿(yado)! The old cedar smell is amazing. The owner (Barbarasan) is very kind and helpful. The building is really something special and I highly recommend staying here.

JapanThe thing I liked the most about the property was how nice Barbara and Aki were. Some of the nicest guest room owners I’ve ever encountered. Our room was big and clean and the property itself had a very nice vibe as a wooden traditional house. All the other guests (both Japanese and foreigners) were all very friendly and Barbara facilitated friendly interactions between everyone. They were also providing good tips and advice about what to do in Yakushima, and were keen on helping foreigners who don’t speak Japanese (by calling restaurants for example).
