Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

LithuaniaIt's quite pricey for a place this remote from the rest of main Hakone areas. Private onsen is also charged additionally (2000jpy/30min). In the evening they can drive you to the restaurant and back, but it has touristy prices and of course you pay for the meals separately.
Amazing view from the onsen and balcony. Staff also picked us up from a nearby bus station (instead of 15mins by foot), also after check-out, they let us leave the luggage and got it to the station for us in the evening.

JapanThe pictures of the room includes the hot spring, however, rooms do not have the own hot spring. It is at the main building where they are reception and is separated from the each room. All the restaurants around there are pretty far and they all close around 8:30pm. You have to ask the staff to give you a ride at 6:30pm (and coming back too)
The lake view was great, the room was big and clean. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was good.

IsraelWe made the beds ourselves, it would have been nice for them to be made already. The Apartments we rented were about a 5 minute walk to the lobby and the onsens. Uphill about 300 meters but, not bad of a walk but when cold or snowy outside its a bit more difficult.
The resort was nestled in the mountains with a beautiful view. The onsens were perfect, one indoor and one outdoor with views of the lake and Mt. Fuji. There was a full kitchen to use and the rooms were really big.

SingaporeNothing…. But maybe the stairs in the apartment 😬
We loved the accommodation at Onsenso! Especially the location as it was far away from the “touristy” attractions, nestled in the quiet, peaceful surroundings of the property overlooking Mt Fuji! The view from our living room was priceless! The onsen too was just perfect. Cosy, quiet and peaceful! Loved it!

For me, there were three standouts - the stunning view of Mount Fuji at dawn, the sense of tranquility that comes from being surrounded by trees, and the extraordinary staff who always went out of their way to be helpful and obliging.

BelgiumThere's basically only one restaurant in the area open until 8pm, so either you need to be there on time or bring your own supplies to cook at home. The room's description on Booking was misleading (or something was lost in translation) - hot bath was shared in the main building, but shower/bathroom private (our reservation was saying the opposite).
Huge flat on 3 levels, probably can accommodate 6-8 people so was very spacious the two of us with the baby, very comfortable futon beds. Hot bath (shared) was great. And I did manage to catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji at sunrise from our window (you cannot see it from the lake as the property is located a bit higher).

United KingdomThe apartment smelled very musty and damp. The equipment for self-catering was very poor - not enough pans for cooking, no tea towel for drying utensils not enough crockery for meals. The outside light did not work at night making it difficult along the path.
The view of Mt Fuji and the lake were wonderful. The amount of space I. The 2-bed apartment was great. Having a car meant we could get around easily and the location was good for that.

CanadaIf you are driving by car to the hotel, just make sure you add at least 30 minutes extra to your travel time. The roads may be winding and narrow. Also make sure you enter the exact address, or Google maps may have some issues. We were a little stressed since the Registration desk closes at 10pm
The area where the hotel is located is beautiful. Up the hill from the lake and you can have a view of the Hakone boat from your hotel room. The fog in the morning on the mountain is spectacular. The staff was friendly and English instuctions are available. I believe they will provide a pickup, if you require one. We had out own car and there were at least 8 -1 10 parking spots avaiable. The rooms were large and contained everything we needed. The yukata provided was nice to have for sleeping

Israel- the rooms are bit old - a bit hard to get without a car - the breakfast was salmon, rice, a yogurt and a boiled egg. Not other options - no restaurants and convienient stores nearby (as mentioned the stuff drove us to the nearest store)
- the view from the onsen with Fuji is unbelievable - the stuff was amazing and helpful, gave us a ride to the station and to the supermarket, they speak English - the onsen is really nice - although it says shared bathroom we had a private toilet in our room which is important - the room was very spacious compared to other rooms in Japan - the price is fair

AustraliaThe onsen could use a bit of care and maintenance. We didn't quite realise how remote the accommodation was and we actually didn't know the name in English. This might have been useful to include in the description. Our room was described as having a private bathroom but this was a toilet only. The onsen is the only bathing option. We didn't mind this but thought it could have been more clear.
The view from the room balcony, onsen and shared lounge was spectacular. You could even see Fuji in the distance. We loved being able to relax in the onsens after a long day. We appreciated the shuttle service to nearby stations and for dinner each night. Neo was very helpful!

United KingdomFantastic location - literally had a view of Mount Fuji from the balcony! Although the location is a little unusual (20 minutes walk from Ubako cable car station) - this makes it even better. The onsens in the pictures are stunning - though you can only hire them in the morning or in the evening at 22h00 if you want to use it privately (otherwise its public same gender onsens the rest of the time). Hotel staff drove us for free to a lovely little restaurant as there is minimal food around the area, and arranged the private onsen in the evening. Absolutely brilliant!

NetherlandsThe whole house was quite disgusting. We found: - a piece of old noodle in the kitchen sink - sticky prints everywhere in the kitchen - crumbs in the fridge - hair everywhere in the bathroom - a glass with an old and used toothbrush inside (from previous guests i guess) - overall dirt and mold around the bathroom - rusty grates just outside the apartment in the hallway to get there (dark at night, so quite dangerous) - on site staff didn't understand English We paied for 2 nights but ended up checking out earlier and going to a different hotel because of how gross this place was.
There was a nice view of Fuji. Staff was fast responding to our DMs
