Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThere was nothing I can think of. As has previously been mentioned in other reviews, the bathrooms are tiny - which presented no problem at all.for me, but anyone especially overweight might struggle a bit.
A small room, but with everything needed and a super-comfortable bed. Staying just over the road from the main hotel, this place was a perfect budget-friendly option. Guests are able to make use of the rooftop onsen in the.main building, which was fabulous and offered free shampoo, etc. Blissful!

United KingdomThe bathroom is very small, if you are a bigger sized person, you might want to use the bathroom at Hakone Suimeisou.
Great for solo travellers. Nice cozy bed. You have access to Onsens and facilities at Hakone Suimeisou.

Philippines-
You get access to an onsen + open air bath which was a welcome surprise, there's even an option to book a private onsen should you want one. Hotel entrance is located down the street from the bigger hotel - it's located conveniently within the Hakone-Yumoto area and is quite near the main station/restaurants.

GermanyVery small room (just enough for a 1.85m tall and slim guy, might be not enough for someone bigger)
Surprisingly good and much better than what some reviews have suggested! The room was quite small and the equipment basic, but it was more than good enough for a good night sleep. Bonus points for the free coffee in the hotel lobby, proximity to public transport and the access to the onsen which were absolutely wonderful (a yukata was additionally provided by the hotel). Hotel staff was very hospitable and accomodating. Would definitely come again especially for that price!

JapanYou can use the hot springs located in the main building for free. They are open basically the whole day. You can also rent a private hot spring for 50 minutes very cheap. The room, although small, had everything you need.

United KingdomRoom basic and run down. Bathroom so small it doesn't feel nice to use. For this price, given the location and access to onsen facilities, I couldn't ask for much more.

SingaporeThe room is bit small, difficult to open luggage in the room if you are travel with big luggage.
The hotel location is great, within 5 minutes walking distance (with shelter almost throughout the walk way) from the Hakone Yumoto train station. The room is in another building opposite the main hotel, with lift for access to different level. The room is clean and the bed is comfy. Air condition in the room worked well during hot days. I like the onsen spa at the roof top of the main building, especially the open air public bath, with nice forest and river view. Free and nice coffee served via Delonghi coffee machine at main building lobby.

MalaysiaThe room is really small, especially the washroom.
I really enjoy the free onsen provided in the main building. The location is great, very close to Hakone Yumoto station. The room is really small as it’s a budget hotel, good for a night or 2 nights. The Yukata (bathing cloth) provided is nice and meant to be worn if you are going to enjoy onsen.

JapanThe blanket (comforter) looked like it hasn’t been cleaned for quite some time - there were several dark stains scattered across. I’ve only realized them in next morning‘s daylight, otherwise I would have asked for a new blanket for sure. Also, the bathroom is super tiny. Like really, really tiny - I could barely sit on the toilet without my legs touching the opposite wall.
Excellent location close to Hakone-Yumoto station, many shops (including convenience stores) within walking distance. Bed was comfortable, guests have access to several onsen in the main building just across the narrow street.

AustraliaThe hotel was confusing to find, the sign out the front said Imeisou not Posada Suimei. The bathroom was so small and awkward to move in. There was only one pillow and they wouldn't provide an extra pillow.
The bed was comfortable, They did housekeeping every day. It was quiet.

United StatesThe rotemburo was only available from 10pm-8am for the men, so I wasn’t able to try it out over a two-day stay. A high, awkward step into a very cramped bathroom, so it took a while to get used to. The heater is very effective, but if you don’t like using a heater you are going to be very cold because the insulation is poor. Only one pillow (I like to sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs for my back).
Unbeatable price for Hakone. This is an annex to the Suimei hotel across the street, so you get to use their onsens without paying the high price of accommodation. Very nice onsen, especially on very cold February days. Good location just a few minutes from the train station and bus depot, as well as a 7-11 and Lawson and lots and lots of places to eat. A good-sized mini-frig. A top sheet on the bed as well as a comforter. Very effective heater in a small room.

ThailandThe room was tiny and barely had space for big luggage. The lobby was in the opposite hotel without any signs so I was a bit confused when I arrived at the building.
Easily accessible from the train station and close to combini. Hot Spring included with towels and yukata provided. Staff spoke minimum English but was friendly and opened to questions. The price is very cheap.

SingaporeI was given a smoking room despite booking otherwise. Thankfully the room smelled alright. Having read the reviews, it seems like this happens all the time so perhaps the management could look into improving this. Room is relatively clean although I found a strand of hair on the bed that clearly did not belong to me.
Great value for money considering that you have access to the onsen at the main building, which is excellent. The public open air bath has a lovely view and on both occasions that I used it, I was the only person hence it felt like a private bath. The room is small but it works well for a solo traveller. Hotel is very close to the Yumoto station, just less than 5 minutes away. The staff are all very helpful and fluent in English.

SingaporeOnly minus points was for the room itself. I think I got a smoking room so it smelt horrible. And I was on a the 2nd floor as well which felt quite exposed. Room was tiny as expected, tripped over my luggage a few times.
Super good location, just 3mins from Hakone-Yumoto station. This means you don't have to squeeze with the crowd with your big luggage on the Hakone-Tozan train. And you don't have to push your luggage up any hills that are located in other touristy locations! HAkone-Yumoto will be at the start or end point of your trip so it's a perfect location. Onsen was better than I expected. Provided manju and green tea in your room for after the hot spring! The main hotel Sumeisou is actually really nice so expect professional staff and facilities there. All staff spoke English - even the elderly man! The main hotel is facing the river so the onsen was super nice. You could hear the river and see the moon.
