I had a really small onsen in my room but the walls and the corners of the tub were heavily soiled with mildew. I guess this is a problem because of the humidity in the bathroom. The public onsen is much nicer.

The room is very spacious the view from every room is beautiful. Location is perfect since it is closed from Moto Hakone which is the port where the cruise ship stops. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding.

Some facilities could be upgraded; however, I enjoyed the authenticity of the place.

The whole property was very calming, and the meals were incredible.

The onsens could do with a little clean but other than that, it was great.

We loved the spacious villa with our own onsen- so glad we booked this option as we had it all to ourselves and it was truly a wonderful stay. We had yukutas in the wardrobe which we wore to dinner. The food was amazing. The staff were so lovely. So glad we booked this stay for our first wedding anniversary.

The food is not up to my liking but they are really good experience. They also offer free drinks after dinner time, which is pretty good

Wonderful historical building! We chose the most expensive villa and it is totally worth it! Imagine immersing yourself into the hot bath in the open air and surrounded by the forest and the sky.

Note that if you don’t have a room with its own onsen, there is only one private onsen available with showers - which means group showering. We lucked out and were able to get access to the private bath both nights, but something to be aware of.

Outstanding stay in a remote but very accessible area. It’s an easy direct bus ride to both Hakone/Yumoto and Odawara stations. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The private balcony on the room provided a stunning view of the mountains. The meals were extraordinary, authentic, and a great value (and they were very accommodating of dietary restrictions). We were able to explore the sites during the day (the Okada Museum is less than 5 mins away, and the Open Air Museum is only a 20 min walk) and take advantage of the free private onsen both nights.

We were not given an option to choose time for dinner and breakfast. Not a big problem, however we were asked to arrive by 7.30am for breakfast. After a very generous and filling dinner, we were not hungry this early in the morning and could not fully enjoy the experience of traditional Japanese breakfast. (Western breakfast was also available)

A traditional style hotel with natural onsen. We booked a cheaper option with access to shared onsen baths, however the hotel does have rooms with private onsen. The location was stunning with fantastic views. Very serene and peaceful. Dinner, consisting of a tasting menu was an amazing experience and one not to miss. The room was nice and clean with very comfortable beds.

Our room private bath was half empty so basically unusable. The dinner is correct but not up to what you can expect in similar places. Shabu-shabu is fun but there's not much cooking, and usually for theses prices and places your get a gastronomic kaiseki experience which is frankly another level.

Wonderful place, great staff, beautiful onsen... Overall a great Ryokan experience. Take 15 minutes to enjoy the museum, the place is full of history.

The experience and service was excellent from start to finish. The staff were all attentive and welcoming and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the traditional ryokan. The tatami mat room with a private outside onsen was great. The meals included were delicious and the dinner menu was well thought out. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Hakone.

Confusing information about the private onsen. The hotel is very historic and has a sort of museum area, but that wasn't advertised. The outdoor onsen was very small. The breakfast area was cramped, with the AC set to freezing.

Wonderful building. The staff was kind, clearly used to dealing with foreign guests. A very well appointed room. We got a delicious, elaborate vegetarian dinner and breakfast.
