Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

BrazilEverything was great.
Authentic ryokan experience with excellent vegetarian breakfast (shojin ryori buddhist cuisine). We also had the tour in the temple and watched the morning ceremony, I would highly recommend it.

Hong Kongthank you for the patient and helpful staff. lovely and smooth bath and shower systems too. I wish I had more time there. Get to see monks and other events around the living hall which intrigues me and my respect. I felt safe and calm there.

CanadaThe rooms could use a lamp for better lighting.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and the facility gave a pleasant ryokan feel. The timed bath time was great and the tub was huge. Breakfast was very good.

AustraliaWe appreciated the traditional charm of the Ryokan, but sleeping on a hard floor wasn’t as comfortable as we had hoped. The amenities felt outdated and in need of maintenance, though the overall experience remained authentic. On the bright side, the staff were warm, friendly, and always willing to help.

AustraliaA little cold walking around, bring thick socks. The bath (onsen) is on a timed slots system, make sure you write down your preferred use time on the board provided. The men's bathroom is not stinky, but it kinda smells funny.
Beautiful and carefully maintained historical building. Great breakfast in the morning. Walk to Zenkoji. There are nice local restaurants nearby for dinner as well. Manager is very helpful and efficient! Parking is cheap and it's 5 mins walk (No 4 Parking Ground)

Wonderful location, traditional Japanese style of stay. Breakfast and dinner were included with extra pay for a selection of alcohol. I was very well fed, too full in fact. Very delicious food. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Arranged morning ceremony was a bonus. 9pm curfew was good, I had great sleep.

United StatesTogether with the 5am Zenkoji temple visit this is a meaningful and unique experience. The lodging is a small, Intimate ryokan-style room. There is a nice indoor onsen. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the vegetarian food was delicious . The temple visit at dawn with an excellent English -speaking guide was a major highlight of Japan for us, as well as an insight into Buddhist belief and practice. Yet alongside a tradition of a thousand years of pilgrimages to the Zenkoji temple next door the lodging also had fast modern wifi!

Right on the doorsteps of Zenkoji. The morning service was excellent, although a bit too early for me... This is my first time in a Shukubo, certainly interested in trying again.

SwedenLittle bit chilly in the morning, shared bathroom (known in advance). Breakfast was OK, however a little bit "lean".
Good location (close to Zenkōji temple), nice surroundings, friendly host (organized tour to the temple during the morning mass). You get all of the stay in the traditional Japanese hotel.

United KingdomThe bathroom is a little far from the actual room.
The rooms were really big and quiet, the bed was comfortable, the location is unbelievably good, the staff were really nice (Mitsuko san even took me to the doctor when I got sick!) The food was great (and vegetarian too!). Just a very nice place. Oh and they give you a ticket so your parking is free at one of the local car parks!

United KingdomVery spacious rooms and a lovely atmosphere. For an additional cost a tour guide will take you to a morning ceremony and tour of the Zenkoji temple. You are met around 6am, this was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan and we loved it. The staff are incredibly helpful and have super English.

FranceDespite the language barrier, we were warmly welcomed and could really benefit from the Shukubo's experience. We had an amazing volunteer guide showing us around Zenko-ji during before/during the morning ritual. We also could ask and benefit (pay) from a zazen course. The food (vegetarian) was really good even though we were not sure what exactly we ate and how it should be eaten. We were a bit scared to book at first because there was only one review but we are really happy we still did it. The bath/onsen is on a 30 min window and there is a curfew (gates closing at 9 pm). We had a heater in the room so no problem of temperature. There was also an English guide explaining Buddhism in Japan.

MaltaThe location on the map provided is not fully correct and we accidently visit the neighbor before finding the right place. During the check-in we learned that Ryokan closes at 21:00 and after that time we can’t come in which was a bit problematic for us as we had dinner booked outside. Also the breakfast was a bit disappointing although we had amazing food experiences in Japan so maybe our expectations now are too high.
Ryokan is located just next to the temple in Nagano which is totally worth visit. It was a good place for us to stay and do trips to discover the region better. The staff is very sweet (though barely speak English.) we also enjoyed the onsen.
