Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsI regret not booking a longer trip there.
If you are wondering whether or not to book a room here: stop overthinking and press that book now button! The Galaxy Guest house offers you an amazing experience in the coziest place I have ever been to in Japan. The hosts are excellent and both speak perfect English. The house is equipped with a gorgeous shower, the beds are so comfortable, the rooms are spacious and the common area makes you feel right at home. The island is a perfect getaway from the busy city life and is a great place to recharge both physically and mentally! And the hosts will make you feel right at home!

JapanNot a negative but good to be aware of - the location is part of the charm being away from the town so you can enjoy nature and quiet, but I'd recommend renting a car or bicycles for getting around easily
The guesthouse is beautiful with a great view, you can even see Aogashima on a clear morning. The hosts were very welcoming and provided us with plenty of information on the town and restaurants. We relaxed at our own pace and had the freedom to use the shared areas comfortably. We would love to return again in future!

United KingdomNot accesssible by.public transport, best to hire a car or motorbike for convenience. Rooms are not ensuite but that was clear upfront.
Relaxed style, arty haven. Surrounded by evergreen forest. Self catering facilities available. Friendly owners who were very helpful in booking taxis etc. Taxis arrived in 10 minutes or less. Laid back jazz, bossanova music. Lively house plants and eclectic art. Reasonable price. Excellent wifi connectivity. Lovely coastal scenery nearby.

PhilippinesThe location is inaccurate on Google Maps. It's also far away from everything, so having your own transportation can be a necessity. It's around a 20 minute walk from the bus stop. Keiko and Kenta are helpful in arranging transportation however (e.g. calling a taxi) or even driving you where you need to go themselves (but don't abuse this!), so it's not a problem.
Keiko and Kenta were exceptional hosts. Their home is beautiful and comforting. Great view from the deck, you can see Aogashima in the distance on a clear day, and the Milky Way up above on a clear night. They have notebooks with wonderful messages from guests dating back to 2006!

Germany-
Keiko and Kenta were very nice and attentive hosts, staying in the Guesthouse almost felt like home. Also they had some good advice for travelling around the island or good places for coffee/dinner. Last but not least we really want to come back. We are pretty sad that the four days are over.

GermanyNothing - we just had a 11/10 perfect experience here!
The owners are super nice and sweet - we had such a great stay and experience, it was definitely unique! (Thanks for the coffee and tea btw) The view, the people, just laying outside to see the stars, everybody was super friendly and welcoming! The shared room is very big and comfortable. Additionally, they gave us ideas of where to go and what to visit and eventually showed us around a bit! I will definitely choose this Guest house again if I come back to the island! And it is the first time I recommended a Hotel to friends after my stay!

Very calm and relaxing atmosphere with nice terrace. The homestay feeling is well done, the room with mattress on tatami was comfortable. Shared bathroom was also clean and nice.

GermanyThe Guesthouse feels like a home away from home! The owners are incredibly friendly and inspiring people. They were helpful, forthcoming and accommodating. The location is beautiful as there is a stunning view from the deck and a pizza place nearby for dinner. It’s in the middle of the forest so it’s a great place to see the stars and listen to nature. The house is cozy and there is everything you need there. It’s beautifully decorated with art and plants. The WiFi is fast enough for facetime and WFH.

Hong KongLocation is both a plus and a minus, as it's remote. But that's the beauty of the place, so you need to come with the correct expectations. The pizza place just beside it is GREAT - and if you have a car or bikes, it's not a problem
What a fabulous place to stay in HachijoJima. I was the only guest there - but the mother and son team were great. I ended up hiring a bike from them and cycling around which was great. I loved the view from the guesthouse and the overall decor of it!

United KingdomThis beautiful guesthouse seems like a magician house from a Ghibli film. It is hidden deep in the woods with only one path between the trees. It is a perfect place for people who like nature and silence. At night it is completely dark and quiet. You can really relax in there. The owner, mrs. Keiko, is a talented artist and the whole house is decorated with her paintings and earthware.

GermanyThe owners are exceptionally great people who elevated the quality of my stay tremendously. Their help and guidance was invaluable to me. The fact that both of them are fluent in English makes this the best place for foreigners to stay at. The house itself has a fantastic ambience and feels very much like a home. The view from the terrace is also really nice!
