Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesA wonderful ryokan experience at a well-established property. Staff were warm and accommodating. The onsen is amazing, though women can enjoy the better of the two bathhouses for the prime hours of the day. Meals were amazing. Yukata are provided for use during your stay. Wear them all around the property (to bathe, to dinner). It is part of the enjoyment.

United StatesFantastic hospitality. Everything was clearly explained to us and we are new to the ryokan experience. Kaiseki dinner and set breakfast were phenomenal and the included private seating for meals made it feel very special. Building is older but very clean, well maintained and really charming.

NorwayBeautiful ryokan with beautiful rooms. The onsen is crazy hot, probably more than 43 degrees. Ideal location if you're going to the Snow Monkey Park.

United StatesI would say that if you're looking for a small, romantic boutique kind of ryokan, this probably isn't the place for you.
This ryokan was a lot bigger than we expected - more of a regular hotel, but with tatami mat floors in the rooms. We ate in a large banquet room with the other guests and the food was delicious. We didn't go to the public onsens, but we did book the private onsen which was wonderful. Definitely book that ahead. The staff don't speak much English, but they're very sweet about trying to help you. It's also very convenient to the Snow Monkey park.

It was very unique experience. This very charming traditional Japanese ryokan is within short distance from the train (or bus) station. Everything was clean and well organised there. We spent really very relaxing enjoyable moments there. It feels all very authentic (including delicious Japanese dining) and the stuff is also very friendly and welcoming. 100% worth it!

United KingdomEverything was great.
The whole experience was magical and it was if someone ordered the snowfall while my Filipina wife was on the balcony. We were blown away with the architecture of the reception hall and tea area. The room was larger than I thought and really warm to keep the cold out. Dinner/Supper was amazing as we were served by traditional Japanese ladies which put the edge on other Onsen Hotels we stayed at. The food was delicious and we added a lovely bottle of red wine which finished it off beautifully. They have a great shop selling local Japanese treats and the outside Onsen was an experience never to forget. I can see why the Snow Monkies enjoy it so much on the cold days.

CanadaIncredible property. Well worth the price! Beautiful rooms, property, and baths. Incredible food. Cannot rave enough about how kind the staff were despite our more limited Japanese. Amazing dining menu included. Well worth it for friends, families and anyone looking to get off the beaten path from Tokyo. The snow mokey park nearby was also an amazing treat!

Comfortable rooms, excellent meals throughout our stay. There is a welcoming and comfortable coffee lounge open throughout the day. The hotel shuttle brought us to and fro Yudanaka Station without delays. The Snow Monkey Park is a nice one hour walk away by foot through quiet village roads. Otherwise, transport is provided by the hotel shuttle to the bus station for a 15 min ride to the park entrance. The staff were very helpful. The town of Obuse is a short train ride away to enjoy the Hokusai Museum.
