Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeWe are used to the modern comfort of having the shower area right next to the toilet, so it took a bit of getting used to have to walk across the room from the toilet to the shower/onsen area. But this is just a minor inconvenience. Do take note that the road leading to the hotel is a little narrow and we initially thought we had driven to the wrong place.
We received a very warm reception from the moment we arrived. The team helped us with our heavy bags down the stairs and patiently explained the details of our stay e.g. the meal times & housekeeping frequency. The lobby is not big but very cozy with all the wood furniture. The pictures you see are accurate. Our rooms were all on the second floor and accessible only via stairs, so do take note when traveling with older folks. For reference, our rooms were Std Twin Rm with Mountain View (superb view indeed and you can truly see the train), Twin Rm & Std Twin Room (a little bit darker cos the windows are in the bath area). There are also rooms on the first floor. Our highlight were the meals - so carefully prepared, very good quality and delicious. We enjoyed both the breakfast and dinner. Highly recommended to get your room with meals. The rooms were traditional but clean. Having a private onsen in all 3 rooms was convenient and very enjoyable. Our stay was incredibly restful and peaceful - a wonderful place to recharge.

SingaporeAlthough the location was a little far from the main area, taking a taxi to the sightseeing spots was quite reasonable. It cost about 800 yen to get to Yufuin station and 1500 yen to get to Kinrin lake. It would have taken us 30 minutes to walk to the station. Ryokan paid for one taxi ride from station to ryokan ont the day u check in and one taxi ride to the station when u check out.
Service and food were exceptional. Staff were patient and friendly. They did what they could to make our stay a great one. We stayed for two nights and the variety of food was good. They remembered our food preferences. The room we stayed was huge. Nice view from the bath area overlooking Mount Yufu and the train track.

TaiwanThe food, the View and Onsen is amazing, the staff is very professional and hospitality which is the best part. Special thanks to Jesik Lama who prvovide excellent service make two days wonderful dinner. However in this room the bed is too soft and the Onsen pool and the window curtain need to be upgraded. After all the food with the viewis so incredible and worth everything.

NetherlandsNothing.
Everything. For reference, we stayed at the room Tsubaki. First and foremost, the private onsen was great, perhaps a little too hot for my taste but still awesome. The interior looks exactly like the pictures and the room was more than spacious. If possible, add dinner and breakfast to the booking. At first we were a little dissapointed that dinner was not served in the room itself. However, the restaurant only provides private seating rooms. The food and service were both excellent. Parking was easy enough.

ThailandAs mentioned before, there's only one armchair at the window side (there are two in the hotel's photos), there are also a stool used for dressing so we used that. The bed is a little too springgy and (curved?), but I slept well, still.
Firstly, the staffs. We felt so welcomed right from arrival. Their English isn't perfect (mine isn't, either) but there were very polite and attentive, always smiling too! The room was amazing! Totally as shown in the photos (minus one chair, which was a bit disappointing), and more! Spacious, homely, traditional, and the view was unforgettable! We spent hours looking outside. The food was the highlight for us. We booked half-board with dinner and breakfast, all 4 meals were sooo GOOD!! They also changed it every time so the longer you stay, the more you get to try! Do note that the 'arrival and departure' taxis to and from Yufuin station are covered by the hotel.

SingaporeThe most disappointing aspect of my stay was the lack of mention during booking of the absence of meals at this location. As the site is far away from the town centre, our booking have no option for meals at the location. We were surprised that we can't have food at the dining room as the staff said it's full. And there are only 8 rooms ? We were giving the option of set meal at our rooms which were very expensive. Maybe this can be look at?

Singapore1) Inflexibility of hotel staff/management. - few months before my stay, I requested to arrange for meal plans. I was advised to cancel and rebook my room with meal plans but in the first place, the room doesn’t offer meal plans. In the end, decided to retain the booking as the room was pleasant and bought our dinner and breakfast from 7-11 before heading to the ryokan. On the day of check-in, I tried my luck to request for meals and we were told that we could reserve for meal plans if we gave 1-day notice 🤨 2) was not inform in advance that I may incur additional charges if late check out for abt 20mins.
The actual room is the same as shown in the pics.
