We loved everything. Just book it. (:

In our top 3 hotels worldwide. The in-room heated self-refilling bath was one of the most special things we have ever experienced in Japan. The bed was firm but super comfortable, and our view was the best we've had at any hotel (two cherry trees in full bloom, a tiled roof, and a cemetery climbing the side of the Higashiyama mountains, lit beautifully by sunset every night). Gorgeous subtly luxe furnishings, shoji screens (be gentle!), a lovely tea set, books full of haiku poetry (thank goodness for my translator app!) - and not only comfy pajamas but also authentic yukata robes AND purple/gold overcoats to be worn around the hotel. The staff were so attentive, professional, and were happy to assist with whatever we needed - be that dinner reservations, spa bookings, storing luggage before and after our stay, or serving us house-made gelato at 9:30pm in the lobby (a definite highlight - try the pistachio). There is a guests-only lounge where you can sample little local-made treats and snacks, drinks galore, even a latte machine (matcha included). Not only that, but almost every mini bar item (yuzu soda, beautiful wagashi dessert and Kyoto Tsujiri green tea, etc.) in the room is free. Aromatherapeutic toiletries as well. And we didn't even have to ask for a humidifier, there was already one in the room! We recommend (if you're adventurous) reserving the traditional breakfast in advance via email - very memorable. The value is unbeatable here, especially since you're a few stone steps away from every landmark and attraction we consider worth seeing in east Kyoto. Please consider staying here - it's on par with the most famous hotels in Kyoto and exceeded our expectations dramatically. Arigatou gozaimashita to the staff - it was a pleasure to stay here during sakura season, and we hope to visit in every other season someday!

    Everything was perfect!

Fantastic stay last week in Kyoto at Hotel Yuraku Kyo-yasaka. Not many hotels are as stunning in person as in the pictures. Great location in Kyoto, excellent walking location to temples and restaurants but tucked off the main streets. Exceptional service and fantastic breakfast service, a great way to start the day. Highly recommend staying here in Kyoto, you wont want to leave your room.

We were received with such hospitality. The best hotel I have stayed at , everything was so clean and comfortable for us they allowed us to keep our luggage their before our check in time made everything convenient for our stay , the private onsen was the best thing needed after a long day of walking I’d definitely book again .

There is nothing I didn’t like, everything about this place is amazing. Only thing I can mention is that the staff is not very flexible, for example we asked to cancel the breakfast we booked the day before however they said no as they already shopped for the ingredients based on numbers. I understand this is fair but I would rather not have that breakfast as I did not feel hungry. But all good.

We had a private onsen in our room which was the best thing ever. Rooms were extremely clean, the beds were massive and super comfortable for 2 people. I want to buy the same bed for myself now. Snacks and tea provided for free at the hotel were gorgeous

It’s a bit of a walk from the train station, so if you have a lot of luggage a taxi might be worth it.

Best place we stayed in Japan! The private onsen was AMAZING. Huge room, very clean and lovely staff. I only wish I reserved breakfast at the hotel, it smelled so good. I stayed at a 5-star ryoken hotel in Tokyo for 3x the price, and it was disappointing after staying here. If/when I go back to Kyoto, I’ll definitely stay here again.

The location is very nice to walk to and from empty handed. But being a visitor, you're bound to have travel luggage with you. Since the street to hotel is uphill, I would highly recommend catching a taxi to the place. To prepare for when you leave, you can request a taxi booking at the reception so you won't have to carry the heavy luggage to and from.

Stayed 2 nights at room Type B with open air bath. Simply amazing. I was at a loss for word. The room had a mix of modern and traditional vibe. The open air bath was large enough to comfortably fit two. The water temperature was just right to enjoy an open air bath in cold January winter. The location was amazing - about 10 minute walk to Yasaka Temple. Must try the gelato in the lobby. Amazing - highly recommend the strawberry soy milk flavour (I think that's what it was). Regret only staying for 2 nights and not more. Highly recommend, would love to visit again.

    No laundry service.

Amazing breakfast and the desserts were the standout of each meal. They had house-made snacks that were delicious. The rooms were clean and spacious and beds were very comfortable. The outdoor private hotel tub and garden were beautiful touches during our winter stay - perfect after a long day of walking in the cold. Staff were so friendly and caring. Location was prime for Gion exploration.

Not so much a dislike, however I can see it being off-putting for others. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest bus station, and the walk is uphill. If you are already tired from your trip when you arrive, I would recommend splurging for a taxi when you arrive and leave with your luggage. My husband and I had sent our larger luggage sent to our next hotel, and make the trek with our carry-on bag. It is manageable if you are traveling light.

This hotel was so much more than we had expected. We arrived earlier than expected, however the staff was more than happy to hold our luggage. We returned at the check-in time, and they served us tea and snacks while they explained the hotel. Our rooms was just as pictured online, and the view from the room was beautiful. The hotel is on a hillside, so you will get nice views from any room. The hotel is very thoughtfully laid out, and you never hear any of the other guests. At the time of booking, we had decided to skip on the dinner. Once we got there, we regretted it, and sadly they did not have any opening. I recommend enjoying their dinner at least once. They also have a spa, which I was not aware of when booking. I am sure their spa is just as luxurious as everything else. The hotel staff were very kind. Their English is limited at times. When I had called about dinner, the young women was having difficulties explaining something to me. So she came up to our room and used a translation app. I thought the extra effort was really nice. The hotel is located on a quite side of town, so the streets aren't very crowed. You can find the Kodaiji Temple just a 5 minute walk away, which is very beautiful.

Everything about this hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were great, the location is perfect for exploring Gion on foot, and the hotel's design and amenities were stunning. The bathroom alone was larger than our entire hotel room at a different hotel in Tokyo. The in-room onsen was so, so amazing as was the oversized shower. The breakfast was quite fantastic. On-site gelateria and coffee shop. This is a GREAT hotel at a very affordable price. Get a room with an onsen!

If i were to nitpick, it would be the distance to train station and bus stops, but nothing too concerning because you can just take a slow walk through the beautiful park and temple nearby.

Fantastic hotel with excellent service, friendly and helpful staff, great private onsen experience with stunning view. Breakfast is very sumptuous as well.
