Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe hotel, restaurant, and all attached experiences were breathtaking. Just walking into the entrance way felt like a retreat into a relaxing world, and the list of amenities (the private baths, free ramen, traditional meals...) was incredible, some of which weren't even advertised clearly (or at all). This is possibly one of the most expensive places I've stayed, but I found it was worth the money, and the relaxing energy of the whole building left me satisfied the whole stay. Unfortunately it wasn't perfect, the location could be better, with the Shirkawa-Go village being a solid 30 minute way from the door, and the shuttle service not running frequently enough, nor carrying enough people to get there at an early time so to necessarily beat the other tourists. And we were disappointed to find they couldn't hold our luggage outside of our booking to explore the town - instead we had to rely on coin lockers at the bus terminal, which felt like a shock considering the luxury and prior helpfulness of the staff

SingaporeGood size room for Japanese standard. The hotel is impeccably clean, they even cleaned all the wheels of every luggage to prevent staining or damaging the tatami. Love the onsen, make sure to try the outdoor pool, it's so relaxing after full day of walking. We took the full board package with dinner and breakfast included. The dinning experience was excellent! The dining hall is huge, but each group of guests is allocated their own cubicles to ensure privacy. Service all around is efficient and very friendly. Highly recommend a night's stay here if you are visiting Shirakawa-go.

United StatesWe booked it since we were seeing Shirakawago. Just know it’s quite a ways away, and you need a shuttle to get to. From Shirakawago, the shuttle starts running at 3pm. When we arrived, check in was very smooth. The room was large and comfortable. No shoes allowed in the hotel at all, which was nice - felt like home. Everyone wore their provided loungewear for the entire stay. They have an entire room of loungewear options, so you can privately choose your size. As a US-plus size woman, I appreciated being able to find my size and participate with everyone else. They also had a pillow closet where you could pick different types of pillows - charcoal-filled, hypoallergenic, etc. Never saw that before. Food was traditional Japanese and plentiful. We weren’t very experimental since we’ve tried it before and know what we like but there was plenty of food we enjoyed, and always left the meals feeling full. We also enjoyed the free beer and snacks in the evening. Great stay.

AustraliaThe last shuttle was pretty crowded and I think they may have sent another thankfully. We were there in February and there was lots of snow. It wouldn't have been possible to walk to and from the village with luggage and a baby, which was fine, just something to plan for. We were glad we had breakfast and dinner included at the accommodation. Not related to the accommodation but luggage storage at the main bus stop was very busy in February. Thankfully staff at the bus station itself stored ours when the main luggage storage place was full.
Dinner and breakfast were lovely, we had it included and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was Japanese style which we enjoyed but can not be to everyone's taste. The onsen were fantastic. The private onsen didn't need much of a wait and the public ones were not very busy either and had lots of different parts - inside, outside, deeper baths, cold plunge and sauna. The 10pm noodles were a nice bonus, as were the popsicles. There was a free shuttle bus from the main part of the village. .

LithuaniaAt first I was slightly uneased by the price of the night for 3 people, but after experiencing the onsen, the amazing dinner, and exceptional breakfast combined with top notch staff, I must say, the price is very well worth it. Food was superb, and the quality of the onsen was unbelievable - rivaling that of Beppu onsens known through Japan. Not to mention the exceptional accessibility options should the guest be differently abled - 2 very wide elevators, appropriately sloped ground, no bumps going through the rooms.

ThailandThe price of the room is a little expensive compare to the room size and facilities.
This hotel located near Shirakawa-go village and take only 5 minutes drive to the site. The hotel price may be a little sky-high due to the location but I think it worth to stay before travel in this famous attractions. Since Shirakawa-go is one of the most famous attraction spots in Japan, the village will always crowded with tourists all over the world. It’s better to stay a night before and go to the village in the morning. Small room (ensuite with small bathroom) but warm and cozy during the snow storm at the period we stay. All over the hotel is still warm. The hotel lobby is very small and may overcrowded during the tourist group checks in. Staffs are not good in English but helpful. Japanese Breakfast is good. (We also have our dinner here and taste good too.) Onsen is OK as average. And you can have free Ice-cream at the front of the Onsen. At last, if you have time, don’t forget to visit the small shop near the lobby. This shop is packed with many interesting souvenirs.

AustraliaEverything was amazing from the staff to the room, the meals and all the amenities. The staff were extremely courteous and professional. The room was more like a luxury apartment with a bed fit for royalty and yukata's (traditional bath robes with jackets) were supplied with special toe socks to really feel a part of the resort. The meal was an absolute adventure of flavours that tantalised the taste buds and the staff were helpful and friendly. There is also 2 first come first serve outside private onsens for couples with a 45 minute time limit which is ample time with usually 30 mins plenty to enjoy. The main onsen is divided into male and female onsens which has lockers for clothes and valuables and after washing before entering the baths there is an inside and outside large onsen, a small tub onsen, a cold onsen for after the sauna and a secret onsen to sit and view through a porthole the snow outside which was perfect for visiting around early March also being the quiet season with fewer tourists. Absolute value for money.

Hong Kong<Services> Very accommodating & responsive staff. Our arrival time was delayed due to lost baggage at the airport, and the staff kindly & swiftly agreed to postpone our dinner booking. <Room> Traditional yet well maintained. Nice little balcony with semi-outdoor onsen in room --- great atmosphere in the snow. <Restaurant> Nice views of the mountains & snow made breakfast even better.

United StatesThe price is quite high for a 3-star accommodation.
I recently stayed at Onyado Yui no Sho in Shirakawago, and it was a pleasant experience overall. While the price is quite high for a 3-star accommodation, there are several highlights worth mentioning. The hotel is located just outside the village, about a 7-minute car ride away, which provides a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle. The free parking was a convenient perk, and the check-in process was smooth and hassle-free. The dining experience was enjoyable, with delicious meals that showcased local flavors. The staff were very warm and friendly, making us feel right at home. If you're willing to spend a bit more, Onyado Yui no Sho offers a comfortable and welcoming stay in Shirakawago.
