Tucked away in the local mountains but only a short drive to town it was an ideal location to get away and relax. The private onsen was convenient but I lived the outdoor public onsen. The view of the cedar trees, rice fields, and Mt Yufu was so peaceful and serene. Loved the bridge to the guest rooms. It made me feel as though we were retreating to our private compound. The dinner was excellent.

The location is slightly out of the way from Yufuin main area, which adds to the tranquility of the hotel ground and surrounding. Room is very spacious and well-equipped. Bedding (futon) is comfy.

Gettouan is lovely ryokan. It is very clean, the staff are extremely attentive and the location is beautiful. The food is of a superior quality and they kindly adapted the breakfast meal for one of us as we have a dietary requirement. The room was stocked with nice beverages and tea for our stay. They stocked the cupboard with enough fresh towels and yukata (light cotton kimono) for our whole stay. The public bath is clean and comfortable, and the private bath in the room is really nice for those that are shy.

Is a bit far from train station. Better to drive there

Traditional Japanese room with private onsen, very good and relaxing experience for my wife and me. We didn’t have a good view in room but the whole hotel has a fantastic environment. Highly recommend booking the breakfast and dinner at the hotel

as the bathroom also outside the onsen (private spring) , it will be a bit cold and lack of lighting in mid of autumn . there was drizlling in one of the night, not convenicne for having a bath outside. other than that, all good.

my husband and i love here so much. very beautiful place and you can enjoy a moment of silence in the heart of the moutains and high privacy . the staff are very nice and helpful. they helped us to book local resturants and welcome us once we drove in the hotel area. of course, it is better that you drive there as difficult to go down to the town at night time . the recommendation of the restaurnts are good and the welcome snacks are super yummay . you can find in the town named 今泉堂。

beautiful location, beautiful rooms, you get a rustic japanese lodge with access to traditional kimono, haori, and tabi. the room itself has a minibar with free beer and soft drinks. the highlight for me was the private hot bath which was hoter than the public hot spring. there is a guidebook in english about different resturants and bars in yufuin and the staff were able to book us. the staff spoke good english and were super helpful about everything!

The rooms were spacious and beautiful! We enjoyed the private bath. We were unable to have dinner at the property but the concierge helped us to book a nearby restaurant that was very good!

Things to note: The location is a bit far away from the town centre(30min walk or 5 min drive), we rented a car so that’s not a problem for us, there are NO restaurants or grocery shops outside or anywhere closer. Also book the dinner early, they don’t have capacity to offer dinner for every guest. We cannot dine in on site even we booked more than one month earlier. Lastly, the toilet is super cold during the winter, there is no heating in that area. If you want to take a shower, you can only do that outside of your room next to private open air bath. It can be a bit cold if it is winter. Otherwise you can go to public bath to take shower inside the room.

We stayed for two nights, overall a very pleasant experience especially it was snowing during our stay :) Most service staff were friendly and helpful, we were offered hot tea upon arrival and two guys took our heavy luggages all the way to the room and gave a quick introduction about the facility and room. Both private and public bath are nice and clean, the public bath was empty most of the time, you can enjoy it all yourself, that’s beyond our expectation. The room is cozy and warm, quiet and private, good for couples.

We were unable to book dinner in advance as the restaurant was fully booked. This is a shame as half the experience of these type of ryokan is the food culture. We thought it a bit strange that they didn't give hotel guests priority for the restaurants as the hotel is slightly outside the city centre so you'll always have to walk for a while or drive/get a cab for dinner. Also no breakfast option which was ok, but missing out on the dinner/restaurant was disappointing and would only stay here again if we can book dinner too.

Lovely, traditional style rooms in the quiet mountains surrounding Yufuin. The onsen facilities are great (don't miss the outdoor bathhouse!). We had a lovely and tranquil stay here - hidden away from the bustling cities and enjoyed hiking in the area as well.

Not in walking distance from Yufuin center. Driving will not be a problem. Not many public entertainment areas. Expecting insects everywhere.

Separate Houses having high privacy. Staff is helpful and nice. There are kettle which can keep hot water which not necessary to boil water every time. There are sufficient warmers, and even Kotatsu in the room really helps in winter time.

Amazing hospitality from all the staff members, even before check in. There are also additional baths in the hotel, apart from your room onsen. Complete rejuvenation throughout our stay!

Quite far from the main roads, definitely recommend getting there from the station by car. But also good that it is far from the touristy areas.

Loved the private onsen, environment was clean and scenery was wonderful. The buildings were quaint and beautiful.
