Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere is a bus stop very near the property, but buses are not frequent, especially on weekends. There are no easy food options nearby.

JapanThe tatami mats to sleep on were very thin and uncomfortable. I would recommend thicker mats.

JapanOnsen visits were limited to 1 time per stay. Breakfast is not included and overpriced. It costs same as dinner and while being adorably served and delicious, it doesn't meet expectations. For this price you expect at least fresh sashimi. However, since there are no cafe or diners or even konbini in proximity, you don't have much choice - either bring breakfast with you or pay the price.
Comfortable traditional style room for the group of four, clean fluffy futons and blankets, delicious tea, TV set with all the streaming services you might need. Overall room left a very good impression. Delicious food: dinner and breakfast (with a nice view). Option to book breakfast for 9am. Private onsen (roten) with shower room and all necessary haircare and skincare products. Spacious enough for 4 people. Administrator speaks multiple languages and very helpful.

AustraliaThe dinner and breakfast sets are delicious but slightly over priced. They do have snacks that are more affordable though. The cleaning solution they use in the rooms is quite strong and leaves a lingering smell.
The staff were excellent and very accommodating. The onsen was wonderful and I was able to book my brother for a separate time which was great. They give you a whole hour to yourself. The bus stop is right outside which goes to the station. The drinks are quite affordable too. I would stay a few nights here next time.

JapanI prefer the Japanese-style public baths where you can go at any time. I also favor Japanese ryokan that offer a higher level of gastronomy.
The room was very clean, the futon was very comfortable, and the staff was friendly.

AustraliaThe communication could have been much better. We arrived back to the hotel from a 25km hike one day to sit in the restaurant to order dinner only to be told they were not going to cook that night. Also our room was not cleaned once in the four nights we stayed. Bins not emptied.
We loved the location to the lake snd its hiking trails. Plus when asked the staff were incredibly helpful.

IrelandIt is remote but I think that's the charm of staying here. We had a car rented and that helped a lot I'm not sure how long you could stay with just relying on public transport. It is very family friendly but because there are two private onsens next to each other our experience wasn't very peaceful.
The entire experience was very special. We arrived in the middle of the forest to a traditional Japanese experience. You can book your private onsen time when you check in, there was only one time slot left but that was fine for us. They give you kimonos to wear throughout your stay which was a nice touch and the rooms were huge!

SpainWe didn't have a car, so moving in and out from the place wasn't super easy both due the lack of public transport after 17h as well as not having a great access or connection with the public transport.
The place is fantastic, and the food (both room service for dinner and breakfast) was absolutely delicious!

United KingdomSome things look a little run down: we wanted to play table tennis, lighting wasn’t working. Only one bench outside was accessible to sit down. Outside areas had equipment but wasn’t to be expected to be used (chairs and tables were in one pile). One of the areas that is on the pictures of the hotel with table, chairs and umbrella wasn’t there to use. It would be nice to have more outside area facilities to relax and enjoy the beautiful forest that is right on the back yard.
Location is quite remote: it’s a benefit and a con. We knew that and got our provision before we arrived. Great onsen, really enjoyed our private time using it. Room had traditional futon beds and was air conditioned. There is no shower int he room, only toilet, that’s why you get to book onsen for private use.

SwedenWe were told the busride from Odawara station to the hotel would be 50 minutes, but it took around twice that time. I think we underestimated how deep into the mountains the village is. On the plus side the bus stops just outside the hotel entrance. You cannot charge your IC card while in the village, so make sure it is charged for both the trip up the mountain and for your return trip. The bus does take cash, but you need to give them the exact amount of the ticket cost. They don't have change.
We really enjoyed being able to book one of the hotspring baths for private use. It meant we could share our first hotspring experience together and relax in peace. The hotspring baths were clean and very aesthetically pleasing. They're outside but with a high fence and partly covered, so you'll be able to enjoy this experience regardless of weather.

ItalyThe only think that I didn’t like is no dinner was served, you can buy some instant noodles but that’s it! Fortunately with 25 mins of walking or few mins of bus, you can reach some restaurants! I’ll warn you: all of them are closed on Monday! Only one was opened but till 20.30 pm! So have dinner early to be sure!
Everything is perfect, modern building, all cleaned, the Japanese room style, also the oppurtunity to book this beautiful private onsen! I have tattoos so it was a great thing! I think it’s worth it its money! Good location, a little far for Togendai cruise stop but nothing more than 25-30 mins by walk (there’s also a bus: the bus stop is practically in front of the hotel)
