Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGreat location and price. Hosts were extremely helpful and considerate. The room was a bit dated and the futon was slightly thin but overall it was good.

Hong KongIt would've been nice to have communal showers instead of having to use the only one inside the onsen. There was only a bean pillow provided but it didn't affect my sleep too much. The rooms are not actually completely enclosed and you could hear what was going on in the corridor, luckily everyone was pretty quiet on my floor. There is no drying room for your gear, only a little rack at the entrance, but I find my boots and board to be dry every morning so that's good enough for me.
The ryokan is in the middle of the onsen area where most of the shops and restaurants are. It's close to the bus station and about a 5-10 minute walk to the cable car stations/ski lifts. The staff and the owner are super friendly, the heater stopped working in my room and the owner dropped what he was doing and came to my aid immediately. The sulfur onsen within the accommodation is great after snowboarding all day, even though the only shower is inside the onsen I never had to wait during my 5 day stay, it was always empty. The little restaurant attached to the ryokan is nice but a bit pricey so I ate at other places mostly. The room is old and modest but well kept, small but had everything I needed.

Hong KongThe shared toilet is a bit far away, and the toilet is too tiny. Heaters in some places are not turning on all the time, it is very cold when passing through. Onsen is small and cleaninness can be better. The price of food in the restaurant is expensive compared with the food portion. Men's onsen has an issue with water pressure.
Staffs are helpful, provide ski rental, room is large and comfortable, convenient located. Female Onsen is good.

AustraliaI guess from a convenience point of view the toilets were way down the hall so a little cold and far for midnight pee pees. I enjoyed the public hot springs across the road and one a little further up the path but there is no bathroom for ladies at the hotel itself.
The room was large and a nice older Japanese style (which we like). The room was warm and it had a lovely view of the mountain and street below. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. They spoke English well which was very handy when it came time for us to leave and have our snow boards on delivered to the airport. We had a fabulous dinner at the hotels restaurant. It was a great place to stay for the 2 nights we were there.

SingaporeThe ryokan is underwhelming for the price that we paid. I think it should probably be worth only around 60-70% of the price. Toilet has an unpleasant smell. Everything is old and dilapidated, feels like being transported back into the 90s, but not in a good way. The ryokan is really running short on staff so I can see the owner running around most of the time. He is really hustling. Please hire more staff and upgrade your ryokan. Lastly, I feel the restaurant a bit expensive.
Owner is super hospitable and welcoming. the inn doubles as also a ski rental shop & a restaurant. The owner seems knowledgable about ski & snowboard experience. I definitely want to try to learn skiing from him. Room was cozy and japanese style. This place is only one of the few that provides breakfast in the morning on this road. the other is a mochiya which only opens on weekend.

JapanThe listing on booking.com has a tick next to "Ski-to-door access" but this is not true. A five or seven minute walk is required depending on which direction you go in. The listing has a tick next to "Ski pass vendor" but they didn't sell ski passes. "Soundproof rooms" and "Hot tub/Jacuzzi" are also not correct. The shared bathroom/onsen is nice for a bath but the water pressure on the showers is very weak. The shared toilets are old and cold so not nice when you need to leave your warm room when nature calls during the night.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

JapanThe public toilet and bathroom are quite old and could use some renovation to enhance comfort. There is no drying room for ski or snowboard equipment, which would be a valuable addition for winter sports enthusiasts. Additionally, the lobby was very cold during our stay, as there was no heater. Despite these minor issues, I couldn’t recommend this place more—it’s the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere! Will definitely be coming back.
My friend and I recently stayed at this newly opened accommodation, and it was a fantastic experience. The host was incredibly friendly and made us feel completely at home throughout our stay. The facilities are excellent, featuring everything you could need, including a traditional onsen—a perfect way to relax after a day of exploring or skiing. The room was spacious, and the futon bed was extremely comfortable. The location is unbeatable! Situated on the historical Takayu Street, it’s surrounded by charming shops, restaurants, and onsens. It’s also super convenient for skiing enthusiasts—just a 7-minute walk to Zao Base Center Jupeer, Uwanadai Slope, and Zao Chuo Ropeway. Plus, the Zao bus terminal is only 3 minutes away on foot. Don’t miss the restaurant “Ringoya” on-site, which serves absolutely delicious food.
