Gionkoh is beautiful and in a very convenient location. The host was super kind and patient and answered all our questions as to what food was good and what was fun to do in the area. He also speaks phenomenal English! Shared bathrooms are well maintained as well!

Great location, beautiful scenery. Despite Kyoto is colder than expected, owner is very thoughtful to place a heater inside the bathroom.

I would have liked to have been offered flip flops/indoor shoes because the floor was cold and I couldn’t fit mine in my backpack to bring with me. I believe there were some near the front entrance but I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to use those/wear them inside.

We didn’t get a chance to eat breakfast as we had to be on the move very early but the location was perfect. It was central to a bunch of shops and restaurants and a very close walking distance to bus stops and the famous Ninenzaka street. Hiro was also so nice and welcoming!

Couldn’t have been more perfect. Great location, beautiful 300+ year old home in the heart of Gion, fabulous advice from the host, and while our room was small we managed to fit ourselves, two giant snowboard bags and two suitcases without any drama haha

I loved the small kitchen that allowed me to make snacks and food for my children, and coffee for me. The room was very comfortable, and the location was excellent, just a short walk from some wonderful historic sites but was on a quiet street, meaning it wasn't too noisy.

It is a beautiful traditional style house. The inner garden courtyard is lovely. The location is perfect! There is a fully equipped kitchen which is so helpful to us a family with 2 small children. Hiro was very nice and helpful!

There is nothing we did not like about this property. I guess if you require your own bathroom. Maybe that will be a problem. But we loved this property. I’m so glad I found it.

Hiro who runs this property is lovely. We had such a great time here. The property is in Gion just minutes walk from all the places you want to see in Kyoto. We stay 3 days and it was the perfect place. I really can’t recommend this property enough. We loved it.

Cute little garden. Very comfortable bed and nicely sized room. Perfect location close to many highlights but still quiet. The host is very helpful and nice.

Hiro was super friendly and so kind. He was speaking to all guests in their native languages and we were so impressed. The location is absolutely sensational and the koi pond was very relaxing. The room size was excellent and the beds were super comfy. We absolutely loved everything about our stay.

Lovely tranquil environment, great courtyard, facilities (including private bathroom) were excellent. Hiro was a hero (apologies…) and was extremely helpful, thoughtful and made us feel welcome. Great little experience!

Remember that it's a traditional home and that means no special soundproofing between floors. It didn't keep me awake or bother me that much (I live in a flat in the UK, so I'm used to it) but I definitely heard the footsteps and roller bags in the room above. There's nothing to be done about though, so it's a minor gripe.

What an experience. Words won't quite convey how cool this place was. First off, the location. You're in the heart of the Gion district, in a beautiful Japanese style home with a central koi pond. You walk right and you're at Yasaka Shrine, left and you can see Yasaka Koshin-do on your way to Kiyomizudera. Straight on and you're into central Kyoto. Second, there's Hiro, host extraordinaire. Always willing to offer great advice with a smile. We stayed in the Japanese family room and it just elevated the entire trip. Tatami, futons, sliding doors, the sound of running water from the pond - it felt straight out of a movie. It was a welcome change from the very corporate feel of big city hotels. I would stay there again without a second thought.

Loved the traditional house with the tatami mats and futons, which were so comfortable. Hiro was fantastic and so helpful and kind with our questions and requests. Loved the serenity and calmness of the room and the sounds and view of the koi pond. Highly recommend for a traditional Japanese experience.

In one word: everything. The host was super friendly, available, and helpful (we thought we left the passport in our previous hotel, and he promptly offered us help and called the other hotel). The inner pond is very relaxing at night. The location is simply outstanding!
