Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The beds were not very comfortable, but they were okay. There were a few nights with very rude guests who were extremely noisy, but that isn't the fault of the staff or hostel.
The rooms were clean. The staff were all extremely helpful and kind. Especially Umutayi(I'm not sure about spelling her name). The breakfast was good. The city location was great also, especially having Mokki Cafe right next door, and they give 10% discount for staying in Compass Hostel.

Very clean, modern and comfortable. Good lockers to store your belongings and beds were comfy with a curtain. Staff were very helpful and kind! Would recommend this hostel to anyone for sure!

I looooove compass hostel! i spent 2 months in Kyrgyzstan and used Bishkek as my base while hiking so I always stayed at compass hostel because I love all the staff, super clean, comfortable, so many bathrooms, comfortable bed & blankets, and it’s almost like a hotel!

This hostel is obsessed with cleaning, even if you are eating someone is bothering to clean the kitchen area. The shower is horrible

The staff came across as quite unprofessional; they spoke little English and when asked about the recommendations in the city, we were sent to a shopping mall… Based on other reviews, we assumed there might have been some gaps in the new joiner’s onboarding process.
The private room is very comfortable, the kitchen is spacious and there are many shared bathrooms on the floor. We also found the facilities clean and the hostel well located within the city.

The only and big problem i had wasn't really the Hostel's fault. I slept (or tried to sleep) in a shared room but all the other 3 persons snared too laud the whole night that i couldn't sleep. I asked to change my room but it wasn't possible. I canceled my other nights and booked a single room somewhere else. I'm sure that, the experience in a single room in this hostel would have been amazing.
The hostel itself is very good located. Very friendly staff. They helped me with the sim card for internet. The recepcionist was so friendy that i spent hours talking to her, and she also helped me with tours around Bishkek.

Booked a room but when I arrived they told me they were fully booked. Showed them the confirmation and they told me I could stay in a different branch of their hostels for the same price. When I arrived there the manager wanted me to pay 3 times as much. That's their customer service. Never again.

Terrible sleep I had for 3 nights, I was in a 4 beds room. Guests came in early in the morning, 2~3 am, and made big noise. Two guests checked out at 1 am in the morning and then another two guests came in 3 am and arranged the same beds as used before. They, new guests, were heavily drunken and bad smells with big snoring noise. Couldn't sleep at all and make a sense how host can accomodate them without new beding and cleaning. I am afraid of mines also not cleaned.

I had to change rooms on each night despite reserving a dorm room for 3 nights. I made the reservation more than 2 weeks in advance. this was rather inconvenient and prevented me from doing much in the morning.
