Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomEverything was going great until we tried to check out and were told by a member of staff at reception (a young lad) that due to a storm there would be no more boats leaving the island and that we had no choice but to pay $28 for 2 new tickets on a boat that was leaving in the next 20 minutes. In the panic of missing our other buses etc. we paid but the staff member took our other return boat tickets away from us for some reason? We got to the pier waiting for the boat to take us off the island and contacted the Speedboat Company (who we had booked our return boat with) to ask why they had not informed us of cancelled boats and he was so confused, informing us that our boat was still available to take as normal… he offered us a refund if we gave him our tickets back for resell, but conveniently our tickets had been taken by the hostel even though they had nothing to do with the old tickets. After explaining to the boat man what a stress this has been he was kind enough to ask what hostel we stayed in and he spoke to the manager, details of this are unclear as the boat man came back to us apologetic and saying the hotel clearly wanted to make an easy $56 out of us by not only selling us new tickets but also retaining our old ones to sell to some other poor person. Luckily the boat man knew the manager and was able to get his money back and therefore refund us the money but be careful if you are randomly rushed off your feet and told to pay for new tickets and run to the pier before you miss the only boat!!!

United KingdomThe menu for a specialist diet (vegan) is very limited and the bread tasted old. Whilst some of the staff smile and are polite, others could do with some customer service training. On the whole in Cambodia I have found the people extremely welcoming, friendly and polite unfortunately it didn’t seem to extend to this island and this property.
the location was great and it seemed to be the place to stay. it was clean

United KingdomNo security in shared dorms - anyone can come in & out. Had to endure a couple having sex in one of the beds (one of which was from another dorm). There is a cartel situation if you run out of cash and need a cashback type service in one of the local shops (take cash to the island!)
Beachfront location, always something happening, own bar/restaurant, good amenities in each bed space, nice ambience

United KingdomIt was extremely hot at the time of year I visited and despite this room being advertised as having aircon, it was only switched on between 9pm and 10am. When it was on it wasn’t working very well, the room was unbearably hot and it was almost impossible to be in there in the daytime. Not enough showers, only 4 female shower between all the dorms so had to wait when it was busy. Only one hot shower. Not necessarily the hostels fault but I had things go missing from the communal drying rack.
This place is great as it’s right on a very picturesque beach, it’s a laid back beach with just a few restaurants and shops. I did the snorkelling day tour which was fun.

GermanyIf you want to eat at the hostels‘ restaurant, go for the local food - it’s a lot better than the „western“ food ;) Also, the room was a bit smelly when I arrived, but this was probably cause people dried their swimming stuff inside the room (don’t do that, it’s annoying :D) - next day it was a lot better!
Staff was friendly and the hostel got cleaned all the time (bathrooms and sand). Everything was very well organized and the atmosphere was great! :) location is beautiful and even if the hostel is quite big, it doesn’t feel like that due to the arrangement of the rooms and huts. I had a really good stay, thank you!

United KingdomA girl in our room had her toiletries and makeup stolen from her toiletry bag in the toilets and then her friend had his suncream and shampoo stolen out of his backpack, which was in our room. Given that there were two instances of theft in two locations which can only be accessed by the cleaners, we believe them to be the culprit as also on one occasions we caught them coming into the room at 9:30-10pm to “sweep up” while having a good look around the beds. There are lockers in the room but we’ve been travelling for 3 months now and haven’t had to worry about locking every single thing we own up, including toiletries to avoid theft until we came here. There was also a girl in an adjacent room who claimed to have had bed bugs and was covered in bites. The mattresses were fairly tatty and in general the room could do with an upgrade considering the price they are charging for a bed. There are no mosquito nets despite the amount of mosquitoes that are in the room constantly, so we had to wear long trousers and tops to bed and put bug spray on to avoid being bitten while sleeping. The curtain on the beds only goes half way across too. There is also only 1 hot shower in both male and female bathrooms to share between 60-70 people staying in the dorms and only 5 toilets per gender too which meant constant queuing. We paid $15 for a boat trip which included a kebab, one girl on our boat didn’t get a kebab as the staff had miscalculated the amount of people. The boat also felt overcrowded and unsafe meaning that often water was coming on board when the boat tipped from side to side - also not enough life jackets for everyone.
The beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious, the location is stunning and right in the centre of the beach. There is a shuttle boat to bring you from the jetty to the hostel. The food and drink is also really good and fairly priced considering the island location. Staff working in the restaurant are really friendly too. Lots of sun loungers and comfy beach chairs which are free to use.

United KingdomHad chicken noodle soup for breakfast. Tasteless and worst meal in 3 weeks in Cambodia so far. Unsure if Khymer food not their forte. Had to hike with bags about 1/2 mile down the beach from a half destroyed pier to the hostal while other guests were transferred right outside by boat. Unsure of how this service was organised or where it was advertised as would have loved to have used it! Guests appear to get out of bed, lounge around all day, then repeat the next day - resort makes it easy for guests not to spend money at small local owned shops and restros as they offer everything in-house. Locals really need the money! Please support the local businesses even though you're staying at Onderz! This is part of what travelling responsibly is about.
Onderz is a self contained resort enabling people to never really have to leave - and if they do, it would be on a trip they provide themselves. Room was basic but clean. Good hot water shower. Large site and room was right back away from large bar and party and games area which was good. Good WiFi. Very attentive and helpful staff. Lots of information around which was helpful. Good set up - and you can tell as it was by far the busiest resort on the entire beach. Located fairly central on Saracen Bay. Amazing large beach, super shallow, white fine sand and clear blue water. Paradise.

United Statesagain, on the beach. why isn’t there like a brush chained to each door to help remove sand before entering rooms? I know it won’t get it all but it would certainly help. Wi-Fi is horrible. I was second room from lobby and it never worked for me or roommates.
it’s a cheap hostel and you get what you pay for. whatever, it’s literally in the beach, so you’ll probably spend most of your time outside relaxing

FranceA bit noisy. We thought the party would stop around midnight but kept going until 2 am everyday. If you like to party, it's perfect for you, but if you are looking for quiet, you won't find it here.
Overall, good value for money. You have a private bungalow with a terrace, air conditioning, a kettle and big bathroom. The hostel is in a nice part of the bay. Staff is kind and everything was clean.

ChileRooms to tinny. Also I bought a ticket to Phnom Penh from Sihanoukville with the hotel and it was a horrible experience, delayed, terrible slow, awful air conditioner and the driver was so rude. That was the Van on Feb 4th 13:45 hrs.
In front of the beach, even though the nicest one is in the other side of the island, highly recommend. A lot of different options to eat and drink, it's pretty cool do it in front of the beach.

IrelandThere's a lot of trash along the beachfront (but this is a problem on the entire island). One bit of constructive feedback would be for the hostel and other businesses to each clean their own business fronts each day to minimise the amount of litter.
Good hostel along the beachfront with lots of games. Beds are comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay here so much we extended for another 2 days.

ArmeniaThe attitude of the restaurant staff. They didn’t want to accept 1 dollar bill, because it was old, not even torn. They refused to serve as food because of that. We tried their barbecue the first night, but the fish was with scales and not good.

JapanThe rooms were sandy when we came in, and bathroom was awful with bad smell from the drains, tiles weren’t cleaned properly. They also only had very basic facilities and had nothing really useful for backpackers I.e. no shared fridge or kitchen meaning all guests were expected to eat at the hostel for $4-$5 every meal. (Expensive for Cambodia) In addition, there was a pool advertised but none when we got there.
Great location right next to the beach. Good shared lounging areas outside.
