Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe had a lovely two night stay at Aliya where we visited Sigiriya rock and the cave temples as well as relaxing in the hotel. The buffet dinner and breakfast were really good and we also had a special meal at the Sri Lankan restaurant. The pool was unforgettable and the spa was very good and great value. We would definitely stay again.

United KingdomFelt like a big tourist hotel with lots of tour groups and buses, so lacked personality. We stayed in one of the wooden chalets and didn’t have a big enough hot water tank for two showers.

United KingdomThe building is well hidden amongst the natural beauty of the area(thank goodness as it is a big property,90+ rooms with a stylish modern concept), however as lovely as the rooms are there are no views leaving you feeling disconnected from the glorious countryside. The setting is beautiful but many rooms are a distance from the public areas and at night lighting is poor. There are many large tour groups using the property giving it the feeling of a stop over. No map of the layout and on arrival no introduction of where and what. Other than our interaction with a manager it was very impersonal. The staff were all professional, attentive and smart however many were trainees and unable to engage with guests. Some trainee staff on reception were unable to assist as they did not speak English. This said Chirath was exceptional and striving to ensure the property gains its status and reputation.
Spacious and airy Amazing pool Delightful Sri Lankan dining in the open in the paddy Fantastic views of Siriyra Rock from public area.. sadly not the rooms. All rooms are well hidden in the garden but the foliage is taking over and no views at all. The client/room manager, Chirath. (We booked for 3 nights, however there was a problem with our room after checking in. Chirath could not have done more to rectify this and ensure it did not detract from our stay)

United KingdomSome really small inexpensive changes would make a huge difference to many guests. Every morning, without fail, the toaster is set to ‘bun’ mode so everyone who wants toast either has to put it through 5 or 6 times or else just give up. There’s no markings on the toaster so you just have to know this, we worked it out on day 2 and had to reset it each morning. When you order something such as eggs or coffee, someone will prepare it but will not tell anyone when it’s ready so unless you see your coffee/eggs/order on the countertop and get it yourself you have to wait for a team member to notice it’s there by which time it’s cold, so very frustrating. Pork bacon is served at breakfast (yay) however, once you’ve spent 10 minutes trying to use the toaster and 5 more working out if/where your eggs are/ready. You go to get the bacon, invariably it will have run out so you have to ask for replenishment only to find that they then start the cooking process!!. If someone was monitoring this and the staff communicated with each other, guest experiences would be so much more pleasant. It’s infuriating as it’s such an easy fix.
The pool is the star of the show here along with the view to the rocks. Lively hotel, decent food, a little out of town so unless you have your own transport you’re a captive audience, however, food and drink prices were not excessive and included tax and service charge which was a refreshing change m. The gym is well equipped and there’s a lovely walking path around the hotel

United KingdomThe hot water in the bathroom was not constant and could get very hot suddenly. The staff were not as professional as other hotels we have stayed at. Spa room needed painting and some protection overhead as bugs were dropping on my head!
Safari trip to see the elephants was excellent with our very informed naturalist. Amazing swimming pool and stunning view towards Sigiriya rock. Lovely fresh food with large selection of Western and Sri Lankan food. Really good reflexology.

United StatesWe were assigned Room 45. The bathroom door would not stay open so we had to prop it open by putting an object against the door hinge. The bathroom smelled musty and it was hot when the door was closed because the air conditioning was not reaching the bathroom. We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. The first night, we only had 2 bath towels. We had to request hand towels and extra bath towels since the towels did not dry in the humid weather. The resort was located in a jungle like environment. The pathways to the rooms were dark and not good for seniors like us.
Aliya Resort and Spa is a relatively big hotel with 96 rooms. The resort caters to tourists since there were several large tourist buses that came with guests staying at the hotel. There was a nice selection for the breakfast buffet. Our bedroom was spacious and tea and instant coffee were offered in the room. The water pressure was really good. The hotel had a very large swimming pool although we did not have time to use it since we focused more on sightseeing. We got to see 3 UNESCO World Heritage sites: Sigiriya Rock, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura. These places were about 1 1/2 hours from the hotel.

Perfectly situated with gorgeous views of Sigiriya Rock from the lobby and the pool.the focus on saving elephants was tastefully incorporated everywhere from the bedside tables to the ceiling lights in the dining hall.
