Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IranThe location was great. Besides, you can enjoy watching a beautiful male peacock who comes near the house every couple of hours. I recommend the place to people who want a calm place to rest in Mirissa.

United KingdomNothing!!!
Ishan and his family are the most welcoming people. His mum cooked us amazing meals and they all made us feel like we belonged. The bird house is surprisingly spacious thing with the quirks of a building made by hand with love. We enjoyed reading on the balcony as fireworks went off and peacocks called to each other. Fireflys dance in the area at night and the local nightlife is fantastic. Ishan is so helpful and honest- he organised trips and gave us advice on avoiding tourist traps and making the most of our time. We will be back!

IndiaIt was a treehouse and we had never stayed at one, so was a great experience for us. We were the first Indians to stay there. Good facilities, nice wholesome home cooked breakfast, good location, waking ip to the sound of birds and peacocks. Go for it. 👍🏻

Sri LankaOur stay at this charming wooden house in Mirissa was nothing short of magical. Surrounded by lush greenery, it offered the perfect escape into nature. The rustic yet cozy ambiance of the house, with its wooden structure and warm furnishings, created an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Mornings began with freshly brewed tea on the balcony, overlooking the serene greenery. The view was breathtaking, with natural light streaming through the trees, making it a tranquil spot to start the day. The breakfast was another highlight—authentic Sri Lankan delicacies served on banana leaves. The spread included soft string hoppers, fresh milk rice, delicious curries, and traditional accompaniments like coconut sambol, making it a delightful culinary experience. The peaceful balcony, with its handcrafted wooden railings, provided a perfect retreat. Whether enjoying a quiet moment or simply soaking in the beauty of nature, the house’s design seamlessly blends with its surroundings. The hosts were incredibly hospitable, ensuring that every detail was taken care of. This place is perfect for anyone seeking a peaceful getaway while experiencing the authentic charm of Sri Lanka. Highly recommended, and we can’t wait to return!

We have booked this on short notice and our expectations were exceeded. The tree house provides for a really relaxing environment. We enjoyed the balcony a lot. Location is great. 5 minute walk to the beach without having to go on the main road. The host is very friendly and helpful. His mum offered various Sri Lankian food options for breakfast lunch and dinner, which we enjoyed a lot. The overall service is warm and friendly. The host is very responsive via WhatsApp and happy to help with anything to help you to have a nice time in Sri Lanka. We would come again here.

United KingdomWe stayed at bird house for two nights... It was a really unique experience... Quite often when you come to Sri Lanka you can get lured in by luxury hotels on the beach... But I was drawn to bird house by it's surrounding nature and authenticity... This is a home stay, so it's a truly unique experience to live with the locals, I highly recommend it... The hut is basic but it's all you need... Clean bed and a shower... What more do you need... The host Ishan was incredible and helped us in many ways... Tips on places to visit in the surrounding areas and further afield, organising all of our ongoing travel and even a safari trip... This man has a lot of knowledge and contacts... Plus most of all you can trust him... He's been very accommodating in changing taxi pick ups at short notice and so on... I have his contact details and will be sure to pass them on to anyone who is thinking of traveling here... We're so glad we met him, he'll be one of those people we will remember for life 🙏 thank you Ishan 🥰

AustraliaThis magical mirissa secrete is amongst an authentic Sri Lankan family home. Mumma makes the best egg roti and coconut pancakes! You sleep while monkeys dance on the roof and your alarm clock are the peacocks 🦚. The location is perfect, far enough away from the beach parties, feels like home. Ishan, your host, is incredible at sourcing and organising local ethical experiences with nature and the magnificent creatures of Sri Lanka.

The tree house is constructed brilliantly. It has everything you need for a night or two. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature - dogs, cows, fireflies, peacocks and even monkeys! We had a great dinner by Ishan’s mother. Very friendly family and fantastic hosts. Ishan also gave us some great recommendations and helped us book dolphin and whale tour and surf lessons whilst we were in Marissa.

PortugalThe location is absolutely perfect, just a very short walk from mirissa beach and the main road, but far enough away so you don’t hear the noise coming from the main road. Also, Laila, Ishan’s mother, is the best cook around so anyone who stays at the bird house MUST try her food, especially all the breakfast options! Ishan is also a very attentive and helpful host, full of good tips and suggestions
