unfortunately the smell in the room was terrible. Room wasn’t very clean too. If you are looking for some cheap location for one night near the beach - it’s ok.

The headboard of the double bed was affixed to the wall which made it impossible to pass the mosquito net behind it. I had to wedge it with spare cushions and pin it to the bottom of the bed which was really annoying. Also, the window above the door had no curtain so the light from the corridor shone through all night or whenever anyone came or went and switched the corridor lights on. I took two red cushions and wedged them over the window which worked fine.

Firstly, this is not a hotel as such, it's rooms above a restaurant called Coconut Primitive - goodness knows who thought that name up! You have to go into the restaurant and ask about your room - they were quite organised and had my booking listed. My room was on the first floor and I had booked a double room with a balcony (room 62). The rooms are all a bit weird in that they have large windows facing onto the corridor with big curtains covering them. Obviously you keep those curtains closed all the time otherwise you would feel like you're in Amsterdam. My room didn't have an outside window other than the en-suite bathroom so I kept my balcony door open all the time to let in light which was fine. The room was really large with a huge double bed and a separate single bed which I didn't use. The balcony faced onto the car park so it wasn't too noisy from the bars over the road. The room itself was clean and tidy - only the bathroom window was a bit grubby and some mysterious liquid appeared on the balcony one day - but they came and cleaned that up when I asked. There was no aircon, but the fan was super-quiet and I hadn't booked an aircon room so it was as expected. There was a seating area with coffee table and a nice desk by the wall. Quite quirky and in some ways not ideal I suppose, but it was the equivalent of about £10 a night for a big room what more can you ask for!!!

Things to be improved: - adding a mosquito net in the room (there wasn't one which meant we couldn't leave the balcony door open in the evenings to get any air in the room) - having a floor mat outside the bathroom (there was no floor mat to dry feet which made our floor wet & dirty after a couple of days) - maintenance (the toilet hose was broken which sprayed water onto you when used & the shower head was broken meaning the water couldn't flow properly from it)

The staff here are so nice & make you feel very welcomed & comfortable. The breakfast we had each day was good (Sri Lankan breakfast.. originally we were offered meat options but we informed the staff we are vegan & they were happy to accomodate to us). We also had rice & curry here for dinner both nights which was excellent. The location is great, right opposite the beach front (1 minute walk). Our room was very spacious, clean & comfortable. Lots of furniture in the room which was very handy for keeping our belongings on/in. We were given complimentary tea/coffee every evening in our room which was a very nice touch. For the cost, we would definitely recommend this hotel for staying in Negombo.
