Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

United KingdomNothing, it was amazing
This is such a lovely family run place to stay. The family are very friendly and welcoming. They did our laundry for a very good price and offered tea and coffee when we arrived back after a day exploring the area. The views are stunning, can see a beautiful waterfall from your room. A short walk (10 mins) along the train tracks takes you into town, this was fun and although dark at night it is fine with a phone torch. Just listen out for trains (they don’t run at night) The breakfast was delicious and varied. Rooms are a good size with a fan and mosquito nets. We would definitely stay again, the family feel was just amazing.

We had a really large, bright comfortable room. It was really clean. Our hosts & their family were very friendly & helpful. We had an evening meal at the property which was incredible. There was a variety of dishes & each one was delicious, we totally recommend. The town is either a nice 10 minute walk along the railway or 5 minutes in a tuk tuk. We loved our stay here, everything was superb

United KingdomOnly small note, basic bathroom as with many similar proprieties in Sri Lanka, need window open to ventilate but be ready for bugs!
The view is absolutely breathtaking & the hosts are amazing, which makes this property a brilliant find and superb value for money. Could sit for hours with the view (you can see Ella Rock, Little Adam’s Peak, Ravana Falls, the entire valley). Superb breakfast served every morning on balcony with view. Laundry service available. Easy walk along train track to town (<10mins). Nearby restaurants/ bars/ yoga. Mosquito nets & mini fridge. Fan (no A/C). Great stay.

NetherlandsBeautiful place at a cute family home. Big beds with mosquito nets and a huge balcony just for us with lounge chairs facing the mountains. Delicious breakfast surrounded by nature. The host did our laundry and booked tuktuk and taxi for us. You can reach the main street quickly by walking on the train tracks (everyone does it, the trains always honk and there is space to escape on the side). Loved Ella and its surroundings and can really recommend this homestay!

DenmarkWe came across of several bugs in the room, however, this is just a regular thing in Sri Lanka
Our stay at this place was the highlight of our Sri Lankan trip! The host was incredibly kind and accommodating, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The view from the property is simply breathtaking, providing us with an unforgettable backdrop for our vacation. Moreover, the breakfast served here was the most fulfilling we've ever had, and to our delight (it offered a welcome break from the typical rice and toast fare we had grown tired of)

United KingdomWe loved this guesthouse !!! Despite Ella changing a lot since we last visited 8 years again, this place was so nice to come back to in the evening away from all the hustle and bustle. The family are so nice and the breakfast was delicious! The views tho are amazing! One of the best views we had from our entire stay in Sri Lanka, we didn’t want to leave! You can walk into the main town in about 10 mins down the tracks, we then usually got a tuk tuk back which took less than 5 minutes., super easy. Thanks again :)

GermanyJust little things could be fixed in the bathroom.
We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The view is really divine and sitting on your porch in the afternoon with a pot of tea and loking at litte Adam´s Peak or Ellas Rock is pure relaxation. The owners of the homestay are very friendly and helpful and can help with all your traveller's needs - from a tuk tuk to a Tea Garden, long distance taxis or helping with your laundry. Don't miss out on the great curry and rice they offer sometimes in the evening - all of our currys were superb and it was a real treat after a day of travelling. Another bonus is the direct access to the train tracks. This gives you a quick local highway to the town or Ella Rock. Sure some steps are steep and sometimes there is a power outage, but alltogether this place is great value for money and the place to unwind a little bit. We can highly recommend this place.

GermanyThe price you pay for the pretty and calm location is that the path to walk into town is a little awkward, along the train tracks. It is a very frequented path, but it's completely dark at night and some stray dogs around, so be prepared with a head lamp and maybe avoid walking alone. Or take the lit path on the road, which has a lot of steep up and down slopes.
The view directly from our large balcony was indeed divine. We loved the breakfast that our friendly host was serving. A good mix of western and Sri Lankan foods! And a very generous pot of black tea at arrival. The room was spacious, with a good mosquito net over our bed.

United KingdomOnly the steep steps but that is not a worry for most people.
The views over Ella Rock and the mountains and valleys were stunning. The rooms were excellent and the staff were just so accommodating. They served our evening meal and breakfast on our room patio and we enjoyed the fresh air and marvellous views. The altitude means you don’t get bothered by and mosquitos. My balance is not all it should be and the hotel staff helped me up and down the steep steps. Not really suitable for cars or vans to get there so the hotel arranged tuk tuks on the way down. Definitely not a property to book if you are, like me, a little ‘doddery’ because the steps up are steep with no hand rail - but for all others it is a superb hotel and well worth a stay.

The family room at the top of the guesthouse is very spacious, with a large private terrace with the most amazing view, and a spacious bathroom with a good shower. The room has a private entrance and a back door giving onto the shortcut to town along the train track. A delicious, varied and generous breakfast is brought up to your private terrace every morning. There is birdsong all around and the sunrises are beautiful. A special place!

NetherlandsThe water pressure in the shower was quite low. It was hot though so that’s a plus! Also some basic things like shower gel and a hairdryer were missing. However when we asked for a hairdryer we immediately got one; so that was amazing service!

What a great find, I really enjoyed my stay here. The room is spacious for at least 3 people (it has at least 2 beds) and the room was equipped with the basic facilities. It has a patio that gives a stunning view of Ella's naturesque beauty. The breakfast was another bonus, you get to enjoy your meal with a beautiful view. The host is fantastic too- super helpful, friendly and polite. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Ella.

United KingdomAbsolutely amazing stay at Divine View! The owners are so welcoming and lovely, they made sure we had everything we could have wanted. Beautiful views from the balcony, we were lucky enough to get the highest room which showed all of the waterfalls and mountains of Ella! Spacious and very clean, bed was comfortable and the bathroom's newly renovated. Breakfast was delicious, by far the best breakfast we have had in Sri Lanka!! We felt like kings and queens here. We caught sunrise on our first morning and it was absolute stunning over the mountains. Walk into town on the train tracks is less than 10 mins which is great as it opens out right onto the best bars and restaurants. We were on our honeymoon and the owners also decorated our room with balloons and petals in love hearts etc which was so special! We couldn't believe it, absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for our stay!!
