Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomLots of steps up to room. Not really a problem if you’re fit tho! Owner emphatic we did the Elephant bathe, so we went along to show willing….watch out for 20,000 rupees pp entrance charge ( 10 & 15,000 tickets too) if you want to be there for an hour, wash them and have a ride.. Don’t accept that! We bartered them and got it for less. We were then herded to the herb garden & after the sales tour we were taken into a ‘massage’ room and told to strip off our tops, which felt a little uncomfortable We were then given a 15 min ‘massage’ and charged another 5000, which we really had no choice about without seeming to be rude and tight… I personally did not enjoy the elephant experience as felt strongly it was animal exploitation and had I known what the your entailed pre visit, I would have abstained….
Lovely big room overlooking the Elephant orphanage. Clear view animals.

United KingdomOur stay at Pinnawala] was truly exceptional, thanks to the incredible hospitality of Roshan, the hotel manager. He was kind, sincere, and went out of his way to ensure we had a memorable experience. From taking us around the local area to preparing a delicious traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, his dedication made all the difference. We stayed on the second floor, and the view was simply breathtaking—watching elephants from our room was an unforgettable sight. It was Roshan and his wonderful family who made this hotel stand out, and because of them, we would rate our stay as nothing short of exceptional. Highly recommended!

United KingdomIt didn’t correspond to the description on booking.com. There was no fridge, no drying rack, it “boasts a bath” -no bath and no hot water at the property. There was no garden as such to enjoy and the fence to the elephant orphanage was on a different level completely and not accessible. There were appliances in the room which were unusable: eg an iron with a dangerously broken plug, a bedside light with no functioning plug. There were sharp, dangerous, exposed bases for missing decorative knobs on balcony railing and stairway handrails. There was no kettle, no cups or welcoming tea bags etc. We asked and were given a kettle. We had to ask again for cups. The family had quite limited English, the poorest we had encountered in guesthouses in Sri Lanka, and this made things more difficult to negotiate. Breakfast was very poor, especially on the first morning. One banana each, a fried egg, thin toasted sandwich filled with a very small amount of some vegetable filling, a small bowl of plain boiled beans, a pile of white sliced bread and basic jam. There was water but we were only given a hot drink when we requested it. The coffee we received was poor quality. Photos shared are of day 2 breakfast. Breakfasts in other guesthouses have cost the same and been amazing.
View onto the back of the elephant orphanage was good and it was lovely to watch the elephants through binoculars. The surrounding paths offered lovely early morning wanders and the birdsong was amazing. Just a short walk from the Main Street with cafes, restaurants and the also the zoo and elephant orphanage. The room was a good size, with good air conditioning and a fan, with a lovely window and balcony.
