Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

GermanyWe stayed at Hillsite View for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and each morning we enjoyed a lovingly prepared breakfast that really made us feel at home. The location is peaceful and quiet, yet still just a 10-minute walk from Ella’s town center, with easy access to restaurants, bars, and shops. Our host was incredibly helpful and friendly. He arranged very affordable transport to our next destination and even offered to help organize activities like a traditional Sri Lankan cooking class. We felt well taken care of throughout our stay and would definitely recommend Hillsite View to anyone visiting Ella!

NorwayI had such a great experience at Ella Hillsite View! The room was spacious with an amazing view, and the breakfast was incredible—different every day. Chamith is incredibly kind and helpful—whatever you need, he fixes it instantly! He arranged pick-up from the train station and even drove me all the way from Ella to Hikkaduwa without any problems. I truly recommend Ella Hillsite View! 🌞🌞

SpainAccess was challenging with anyone with mobility issues as a steep hill and steps
The staff were very nice and helped with our bags from the road to the room. Without this we would have struggled. It was lashing with rain when we arrived and there was a a steep hill and steps. They offered a lift to town to pick up a take away which saved the day. The breakfast was super. A 15 min walk to town but away from the noise. Clean room with mosquito nets and spacious terrace.

United KingdomComfortable, spacious room with a lovely private balcony. The host is lovely and really accommodating, helping to organise taxis and suggest day trips. Great view of the mountains! The hill to access the property is incredibly steep (common in Sri Lanka) but Tuk Tuk can access it and once down the hill it’s in a good location.

United KingdomNothing to complain.
First the acccomodatiion: the room is big with shower room, all cleaned and in pristine condition, well equipped including also a small fridge., AC, hairdryer, kettle... Sitting on the balcony in the evening was so nice and relaxing, with great view on Ella night lights and a nice breeze.... Ella noise was far, and the place is quiet. I agree there is a steep road to reach the house, but this is common in shrilanka. A tuk tuk is recommendable anyway tourists are used to climb steep places such as Sigyria or little Adam peak... We had great breakfast and I asked if I could have dinner too.... They were very busy but agreed to prepare dinner for the two nights we stayed there. Second: the hosts are incredibly nice and we had interesting conversations. This made our stay even nicer.

PolandYou could think about a sign on a main road. Rest is well signed. Breakfast might be boring on a longer stay.
You really need to love going uphill if you stay there ;) The view is nice, stuff is friendly, room is clean. All you need for short stay. Location is good. 20 min walk to the city and 20 min walk to the bridge.

United KingdomIt wasn't an issue for us - but it is steep to get to the house and to the room so very elderly people should watch out.
Great value for money. They looked after us so well with a lovely breakfast every morning. Off the main strip in Ella so not in the madness but still very close to get in.

DenmarkThe road to the hotel is very steep. So you need a taxi from the city, if you have bags.
Cathu is very friendly, and him and his wife is ready to help with everything from transport to cooking classes. He has been a chef at different locations in Sri Lanka, and the food is very good. We all enjoyed our stay at Ella Hillsite view. Traveling as a family with two smaller kids

United KingdomNothing - one of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka.
We had a fantastic stay in this accommodation. Chathu and his wife were amazing hosts and extremely helpful. They cooked us delicious breakfast and dinner and provided recommendations for Ella. It’s a 20/30 minute walk from 9 arch bridge and Little Adam’s Peak and was still walking distance to town.

United KingdomIt is a very steep hill so not for you if you have mobility problems or very young children
Stunning and peaceful location, we loved sitting on our balcony and listening to the birds; very comfy beds, everything clean and such kind and friendly hosts - Chato was a master chef and really helpful with everything. They created a lovely convivial atmosphere. A very special place and a good antedote to the buzz of central Ella. We really relaxed and want to return

AustraliaIt's a steep walk up to the accommodation, but the view is worth it.
Great view and great staff. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The accommodation is a 10 minute walk into town. The managers, Chanthu and Vada are very hospitable and have detailed knowledge of the area. The breakfast was the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka. We also did a cooking class, which was amazing. Chanthu is a former 5 star Chef and Vada, a very skilled cook. Would highly recommend a stay at Ella Hillsite View.

IndiaIt was all perfect! No complaints
This is a hidden gem! When we were planning our trip to Ella, we were contemplating between taking a place on the main road vs this property. So glad we chose this. Location : It’s scenic, away from the hustle bustle of the city yet just a few minutes walk down to the city. You have beautiful views of the mountains. You are enclosed by nature. Having breakfast or a cup of tea here, while looking out at the mountains is a perfect start to the day! Facilities : The rooms are huge and squeaky clean. You always have someone to help you with anything extra that you may need. It is a place within the nature, there are a few insects but the canopies on the bed takes care of those. Cozy stay. Food : Yummy home cooked breakfast served by Chathu. He made us an English breakfast one day and a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast the next. We thoroughly enjoyed both. It was an experience to have home cooked meals sitting by the mountains, served with love and care. Special Mention : Chathu who runs the place is an amazing host, a genuine guy. He is always helpful, and goes out of his way to make your stay as comfortable as it can get. Luna their Shitzu is a huggable soft toy, wonderful to be around. This was our best stay in Sri Lanka! The memories of this place, will stay with me. I would highly recommend if you are looking for an offbeat, unique, comfortable, close to nature stay! Absolute value for your money.

The bathroom was fitted with all necessary amenities... The mountainous surroundings were breathtaking and the room provided a great view... We had an absolutely perfect stay in Ella! The host gave us tips on what to visit, dropped us with his tuk tuk to some of the sights and to the train station (in the middle of the night), even preparing a take-away breakfast when we were leaving super early! Always very responsive and supportive. The beds were super comfortable, everything was clean, best acommodation we found in Sri Lanka!
