Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Comfortable room and very friendly owner. The guest house is nearby the restaurants too. So no need to worry about not able to find food in that area! 🤭🤭

Had a lovely stay here! We stayed for 1 night before our flight back home. The shower was the nicest and warmest shower I had in Sri Lanka - I was in heaven after a long 8 hour tuktuk ride to get there. There is AC as well as a fan which I thought was a win. My partner liked the cold AC air, but at night we would turn it off and use the fan. The place is well located near many restaurants and close to the airport.

The cleanest hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka!!! Spacious rooms. Very tasty breakfast. The Host served the breakfast earlier, because we had early departure. He arranged transfer to the airport and we could exchange the money in the hotel as well. Good localisation near the beach.

Some music could be possible at late evening from the restaurant nearby but nothing major. Curtains should be darker and thicker they let too much light in otherwise it's perfect (we had south-west facing room).
Simply fantastic it's the cleanest place we've ever seen in more than 10 years of travelling. Close to Negombo beach and restaurants, nice decorations, friendly and helpful family, A/C rooms, good plentiful breakfast with fruit. Choose it eyes closed!

Everything was perfect! We had a warm welcome, the whole place is completely spotlessly clean, (such a big improvement after 4 weeks in India), the room was large with good furniture, quiet street, hot water, good a/c, huge healthy breakfast… EVERYTHING! Really lovely owners made our first day in Sri Lanka so good.

The shower was not easy to use either too cold or too warm!
Really nice and clean, the hosts are really nice and easy to communicate with. We arrived and as we asked for airport transfer they were waiting for us. The rooms are clean and comfortable and although quite, the location is really good with restaurants all around! The breakfast was amazing! We even booked for our last night as this is a good option to be near the airport.

Clean and modern, very friendly and helpful family, lovely breakfast provided. They arranged an afternoon boat tour of the lagoon with a fresh fruit picnic and watching the monkeys, if you get a chance it’s more than worthwhile. Also a tuk tuk was arranged to take us to the bus station for our onward journey. Thankyou to you all

This hotel have a great location 5 minute walk from beach. Owners were nice and welcoming. Rooms were pretty big and clean. Everything worked fine as well. Breakfast was nice also. I would recommend this hotel after long flight.

No storage in the bathroom for wash bags etc but really not a big deal at all.
The staff at Funwhales are a lovely family who were always there to help with any questions. The location is great, 200m from the beach and just off the main strip, full of great restaurants and the owner gave us a recommendation for a restaurant practically next door which was excellent. The room was a good size, very clean and comfortable. The wifi was fine, bit of a struggle for video calls but for general use it worked as expected. Definitely recommend Funwhales!

The owner of the hotel was really nice. Our room was very clean and the bathroom was modern. The location is great, it‘s close to the beach and there are nice restaurants in the area.

Would have liked a side light or a dimmer light switch near the bed. The smaller light switch is on other side of the room so could do with either moving the switch or putting a table light there but this is a minor thing which is more a personal preference of mine.
One of the cleanest places I’ve stayed in, spotless. Extremely comfy beds we would happily have stayed another night. Shower was good and bathroom was well spaced out as was the bedroom. Staff were warm and friendly. Excellent value for money.

It was very good. No free bicycles.
Very clean comfortable quiet hotel with a good breakfast. Great helpful owner, talking English very well: I could stock my luggage early in the morning until check in time. Owner helped me with ticket (3 euro)for the swimming pool with sea view, very close to Finwhales Owner helped me to find a bicycle ( 3 euro a day). Lots of good restaurants , tourist services and shops around: Queens, SeaJoy, Icebear, five star hotel Sentido with restaurant... Jasmin Villa massage is really good ( even if it is like a " massage factory")
