We had an amazing stay here, 1.5 days before leaving back home. Because our flight back home was around midnight, we could actually also extend for half a day without having to checkout at noon time and leaving our luggage. This place is a small paradise just a few meters from the busy Lewis Place road. The room and whole hotel area were extremely clean, very modern and the shower had a separation to the rest of the bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay here before departure and I can recommend staying here 100% (no matter if you have just arrived or waiting for your flight back home). The owners were super nice and helpful at any concerns. They also offer a cooperation with a nearby massage spa which was amazingly relaxing and cheap compared to other spas (for instance: neck and back massage 30 min = 2200 Rs). We will definitely come again during our next stay in Negombo 😍

This is a delightful place to stay. The rooms are airy and quite large (some with a balcony). The entire homestay is spotlessly clean. Each room has tea and coffee with an electric kettle as well as fans and airconditioning The breakfast is sensational. Restaurants are close by, so is the beach. We needed somewhere to stay to find our feet in Sri Lanka.  Most people stay one or two nights and leave Negombo. We stayed a week. There is more to see and do in and around Negombo than people realise. Audrey could not have been more helpful as we sought advice on transport options, local sights and trips along the coast so we could explore the canals and wetlands. He also helped us find the fish markets (well worth a look.) We highly recommend Funwhales Rest House as the place to start and end your Sri Lankan holiday.

Nothing much! Everything was clean and organized. I only wish they had a night lamp by the bed. Other than that, it's a very practical and good place to stay for a good price.

Tasty breakfast. When I asked for vegan options, they provided local tasty food. The rooms are very clean. My friend and I got two rooms and we had a shared living room/kitchen. It felt like living in a comfy apartment. The kitchen had a boiler, fridge, water cooler and microwave. It made life much easier. The beds are super comfortable. Audry and his family were welcoming, kind and very helpful. They gave us advice on where to go and helped us with choosing transportation. The location is excellent, right around the corner from the touristy road where you can find supermarkets, cafes, shops, etc, but also quiet and peaceful. I wanted access to a pool so I walked 15 minutes to Jetwing Blue hotel and got a day access for like $5 and spent the day on the pool and the beach. This was a useful tip from another expat that helped me a lot. I would stay at Fun Whales again, I felt very comfortable during my stay. Excellent location especially if you just landed or flying the next day. The airport is 30 minutes away, so it's perfect:)

The owners are the friendliest people you have probably ever met. Cannot fault anything about this stay. They recommended a local place for dinner which was amazing, they made sure we had everything we needed. They also helped us to plan our itinerary around Sri Lanka, including all the best places to go for the season. Upon checkout, they arranged a tuktuk to take us to the bus station and as they knew our travel route, the tuktuk dropped us off at the correct bus, where we were greeted by the driver who took our bags and made sure we found a seat on the bus. Exceptional service. Our room was ready even though we checked in early. Spotless. Lovely shower, comfy bed, and working air con. Hairdryer also available. Breakfast was delicious - 6 pieces of toast, delicious omelette with sausage, Sri Lankan coffee, fresh fruit juice, and a plate of fresh fruits which were delicious. Felt like kings and queens with the feast and their wonderful service. We also have the owners number if we need help during our travels. Cannot recommend this place enough for the start / end of your travels to Sri Lanka as it’s nice and close to the airport!

The staff were so lovely and accommodating. We had a late flight into Colombo, which got delayed further. The hotel was great with communication of organising an airport shuttle. The room was extremely comfortable and very clean. And the breakfast was great! The hotel also organise a driver for us to get to Sigiriya who we have continued to use throughout our entire trip around Sri Lanka.

WiFi not the best so recommend getting a SIM with internet (only 1200 rupees for 20GB at a local shop). Handheld shower (not mounted on the wall) a little inconvenient but not a major problem.

Wonderful hosts who did everything they could to ensure a comfortable stay. Amazing breakfast and good recommendations for where to eat in town. Would definitely stay here again.

Funwhales Guesthouse was a great stay! My fiancé and I spent a long time looking at places in Negombo and we randomly chose this for the good reviews. It was extremely clean, comfy, and the family that runs it is just the sweetest. We arrived really early (1:30 AM) and the owner organized a shuttle for us for a decent price. He helped us organize a cheap driver to Sigiriya and even contacted a friend who worked at a pharmacy to help us find a medication that got misplaced. He always tried to find the cheapest option for us too which was really appreciated. The location is perfect since it's right on the main beach road (it's a short 2-3 min walk to some awesome places and the beach!), but it's down an alleyway so it's not noisy and you can have your breakfast while listening to bird and animal noises. The breakfast is pretty much the same each day and typical fare for most places in Sri Lanka, but their omelette was my favorite and you can't go wrong with fresh fruit/fruit smoothies each morning :) Definitely recommend!! The pictures on here don't really do the room justice - it felt really clean and comfortable!
