Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

United StatesThe steps may be difficult for less agile guests. Don’t forget your own water, there are also some little convenience shops on the main road close by so not a big deal.
The host was incredible and kind. Restored my faith in tuk Tuk drivers and truly wants the best experience for his guests. This is his home town and the tour we did was fantastic! He didn’t take me to any high priced tourist traps! Simple and humble room, all I needed since most time was exploring Ella. What a great location to do so. A fantastic sunset spot just down the high road. Walked to Ella rock and had an adventure to get there. (So many routes to go, went by the waterfall on the way there) Highly recommend Maps Me app! Best value and magic breakfast area to bird watch!

NetherlandsThe view and serenity of this place are divine! And so refreshing to sleep in a well ventilated room that's fresh at night. Loku brought me to all the highlights with his tuktuk since I had only one afternoon in Ella, and dropped me at the railway station early in the morning.

FranceIt’s the perfect place if you’re looking for peace and quiet, away from the busy town. The surroundings are beautiful, with stunning nature all around. Lokku the host is incredibly kind and helpful. He made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived and was always available to assist with anything I needed (Arranging tuktuk and scooter rental) Plus, the breakfast was generous and delicious (the best vegetable rotti I had in Sri Lanka) If you’re looking for a relaxing place in nature, I highly recommend his home!

United KingdomWe had a wonderfull stay here. The host went out of his way, nothing was too much trouble. If you want to experience living in the real countryside, stay here. Two dogs to pet, a tame squirrel visits for breakfat and monkeys galore, all on your doorstep. There is a bit of a steep climb for access to the property, but so worth it !! For us, this was a haven away from the tourist town of Ella.

Cannot rave enough about Bella Ella! The view from the room, the wonderful and super helpful host and the amazingly friend family dog. It was a perfect two days in Ella. The breakfast provided was exceptional and the evening meal delicious. Our host organised a tuk tuk for us to nine arches bridge and the bus station early the day we were leaving. So helpful and so friendly.

Absolutely fantastic stay! The owner is the loveliest guys and went out of his way to make us feel at home, help us with any issues and recommend things for us to do! We seriously would have extended our stay for so many more nights if we hadn't had a flight we needed to catch. Such amazing value for money as well, the breakfasts and dinners we ate here were DIVINE!! Some of the best we've had, million percent recommend.

PolandOur stay in Bella Ella was amazing. The host is really helpful. They proposed to us the dinners, local food cooked by his mother and it was delicious. Also, he helps us with renting the tuktuk, visit the tea plantation and recommend good places to visit. We have also a cooking class with her sister, and it was amazing experience.

It’s time to say goodbye to this beautiful soul and place. He is one of the few people I’ve had the chance to meet in my life with a pure soul. So kind and helpful. A true gentleman who, after learning about our situation, didn’t want to keep any account. In Sri Lanka, most people receive cash payments, as you often can’t pay with a bank card. We explained that this was putting us in a difficult situation, as we didn’t have enough cash on hand. What a surprise it was when he said he was happy with whatever we could give. We decided to make sure to pay him the correct amount and give him a tip in euros, as the euro is worth more here. If you look closely at the photos, you can see how happy and grateful he was, and this brought tears to our eyes. A man who cares for his family in this tough world and still manages to stay kind without trying to take advantage of us. He made me reflect on my goals, failures, problems, and so much more, but most importantly, he made me realize that as long as your heart stay pure, you can truly live a healthy and happy life! Because of this, I will always remember this moment and keep going, even if we fail, just try again! That was my goal for a long time, but I had forgotten about it a year ago. Now, I’m coming back to my senses and moving forward! Thanks to Logu and his family to give us this wonderful experience!

BelgiumWhat can I say… The host is one of the kindest and most sincere people I have ever met in my life. He would do anything to make his guests feel at home, and we certainly did! The house is located in a little green oasis right in the mountains. It has an amazing balcony which is looking over the mountain valley, where you can enjoy the home made dinner made by the lovely mother. It was delicious!! Last but not least they have 2 beautiful dogs, which we instantly fell in love with… Safe to say we will 1000% come back to this magical place when we’re visiting Ella in the future! 🫶

United KingdomThis hotel remains one of the best of our entire 8 month trip. The family who run it are all absolutely lovely and are able to lend a hand/ give advice on most things. The location is fabulous, you have a view of Ella rock from the balcony area of the guesthouse and a view of the jungly garden area whilst sat for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it is delicious and well varied; we also had dinner here one night which was phenomenal. We had mentioned that we had never tried jackfruit before to the host, who then had it prepared for us in a curry the next day! It is also not too far from the town, within walking distance of you choose, but far enough that you avoid almost all of the pub/ club noise from that area in the evening. If you do stay here, make sure that you hang around at breakfast to see the giant squirrel that frequents everyday for bananas! You are able to hand it fruit if you are comfortable doing so, along with playing with the two adorable fluffy dogs kept at the property. The host also encouraged us to visit a nearby monastery, which we are so glad that we got to see, as it is one of the most beautiful that we have ever visited. The host very graciously drove us around in his Tuktuk for most of the time we stayed here, which was incredibly kind of him and so convenient for us! Also, try booking onto their cooking class if you have time!

United KingdomHumid in the room but that's to be expected in the jungle in the rainy season.
Really beautiful homestay. It feels like you are in a tree house, totally with nature, squirrels, chipmunks, birds and the owners lovely dogs. Loku was really helpful but not intrusive. The view is stunning, well worth getting up at 6.00am to see the sunset. Lovely home cooked breakfast, too much to finish! 20 minute walk to the town and get a tuk tuk back if the hill feels too gruelling.

I’m overwhelmed by our experience at Bella Ella. I have never experienced such kindness from a family and I feel extremely grateful that we were able to stay here. The host, Loku, and his family go out of their way to make your stay unforgettable. We were served with an amazing Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner each day, the food was incredibly fresh and beyond tasty. We took part in the cooking class with Loki’s sister Shashini, which involved learning how to make coconut roti, coconut sambal, poppadoms and 6 vegetable curries. The knowledge we gained from this was incredible, and again the food was absolutely amazing. The Homestay is located in the hills of Ella and is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature. Im heartbroken we were unable to stay longer. Thank you Loku and Family x x

-Family run guest house, Loki was a great host and gave us good tips about the local area -Very quiet and peaceful location away from the chaos of Ella (20 minute walk down hill to town, not sure for the walk up hill as we got a tuk tuk for 600-800 rupees). -Some of the best home cooked food we have had in Sri Lanka, if we had more time we would've liked to try the cooking classes . -Lovely gardens -Great views over the local area -Convenient location for the Ella Rock hike -Excellent value for money, room is basic but overall we really enjoyed our stay. -Animals around such as friendly dogs and giant squirrel

NorwayBella Ella is a place we will never forget. We came as a big family of seven and of all ages. Amazing food and wonderful people. We did a cooking class and can’t wait to cook at home! Simple and close to nature. The lovely dog Fiona and Kayla the husky kept us company, as well as the grandmother squirrel we fed in the morning. We felt like we found our family in Sri Lanka, and were so touched by their hearts, spirits and willingness to do everything for us to feel welcome and comfortable. Don’t expect western luxury, but the luxury of the realness of basic simplicity and kindness. We all want to come back!
