Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

First of all I would like to start from the location, Its right on the bottom of the Udawalawe reservoir, when your staying in "Hantara Udawalawe" a stroll on the Reservoir bund is something you must do, a small walk from the hotel will make you reach the Dam and the sunset is something that will blow your mind and the walk might be amused with the birds and animals you see. the resort is a hidden gem and its shady and full of trees you can relax in the garden or in the private balcony that's in all three cabanas, the beds are very comfortable and relaxing, i did sleep well and the air condition of the room works well. the outdoor shower took my heart, it was like having bath in the nature. the resort surroundings are astonishing and loved the stay and would recomend and will come again for sure. Food was in next level the Grilled chicken was something I enjoyed and the rice and curry was fabulous as well, they make according to your requirement of your spice level, or any request will be honoured with respect. the environment of the restaurant was over whelming. the resort organizes Safari's for a good price and they provide good drivers who knows the park well and what to see in the park, they have a good eye for birds and animals, I recommend a 6 hrs safari than, a 3 hrs safari, as you will have enough time to explore the park and to see more animals. The Staff is very friendly and helpful and they will guide you with recommendations and options that you need for your vacation, they will help you out to pick your food if and will explain them well, transport will be organized by the hotel if required and the price was affordable, if you tell them where your going next they will let you know what to do and how to go. it was a pleasant and a memorable stay and will recommend to any one who's planning to go to Sri Lanka, and most definitely i will come again to enjoy the "Hantara Udawalawe" Hospitality.

IndiaThe approach road can be repaired. Also the bathroom door needs a fix along with the water drain.
The Staff was very accommodative. They went out of their way to provide us a good vegetarian meal. It was a delight.

AustraliaWe didn't like leaving!
Hantara was a great base camp for us while we explored further afield and much more than a place to stay for going on Safari. Luxury rooms, outdoor showers, and the best mattresses were all bonuses at this price point. The staff and owners went out of their way to help us plan our itinerary, organise a car, and a personal driver for a 5-day extended trip to Ella, Nuwara Eliya, and climb Adams Peak. We were so warmly welcomed back after our trip that we felt like coming home to old friends. Hantara is a beautiful oasis of genuine old-fashioned hospitality and a rare find on the busy tourist trail. Personalised service, great food, and a quiet atmosphere made it a very special place - not to mention their kindness organising a cake and special breakfast for my son's 21st birthday. Hantara was the icing on a very special occasion! We can't wait to return. Thank you, Gayan, Ishara, Sharuka, and Randy, for looking after us so generously. See you soon!

United Arab EmiratesWhat a hidden gem of Udawalawe! The value for money is incredible - clean air conditioned room, shower with hot water, the property is located off the main road in the middle of the jungle which makes it perfect if you like falling asleep surrounded by the sounds of nature. The staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming - on the day when I arrived they walked me down the dam to see some animals before the sunset, cooked delicious dinner and helped me to organise the safari next morning (they also packed a very nice breakfast pack to take on my trip). 100% recommend!

We loved our stay at Hantara. The staff is really friendly and the bathroom was one of our favorites in Sri Lanka. Overall the room was actually great: spacious, AC, a nice terrace and it was very quiet. We booked our safari at the hotel and enjoyed the 6 hour safari drive. We also drank the best ginger tea ever!

AustraliaI loved everything and couldn't notice any thing bad. It was a great stay, enjoyed throughout and had a great time.
The woody Nature friendly environment was awesome, and the surroundings were calming and relaxing. Nice beds comfortable mattresses, had a good sleep, the rooms were cozy and the feature was the outdoor shower and the bathroom with wc, need to relax on the room its an ideal place as it has your own private balcony as well. Chef Heshan's food was tasty and flavourful, it was great dining in Hantara Udawalawa. You can get a lot of helpful information from the hotel, what to do and where to go or about the safari and the Elephant Transit Home timings and if you need they'll arrange a tuk tuk for you to go there, if you need transportation they will get you that arranged as well for a fair price. safari they arranged was fabulous and gave a fair rate than the outside prices, you can do the 6hrs safari which is the best and recommended or if you don't have much time can do a 3hrs safari, if you need the breakfast on the go, they'll do you a picnic pack early morning 5.30 am to take with you on the Safari. I will recommend Hantara Udawalawa for anyone who likes a place to have a time of your life, a memorable vacation. This was the best stay. Thank you Hantara and the staff.

Our stay in Hantara was a great experience. From our arrival to our departure our host and all the team were so warm, friendly, and welcoming. We got great advice about places to visit and travel was arranged to suit us each day. We very much enjoyed chatting with Shanaka and learning something of the local places and about Sri Lanka in general. The accommodation was lovely, very generous rooms in a lovely setting. Typical local food was served for dinner which we really enjoyed. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Shanaka and everyone!

Sri LankaThe vibe there is so calm and peaceful. it’s the perfect spot to relax and recharge. One of the best parts? Their safari services are super convenient, and if you go, you have to ask for Rukshan as your Jeep driver. He’s such a great guide and driver. He really made the whole safari experience unforgettable. Oh, and a little tip for anyone planning to visit: definitely go for the meal plan when you book your room. It’s such good value and makes everything so much easier. Honestly, I had such a fantastic time, and I’d go back!

QatarYou could probably add some extra lights along the pathway towards the rooms. It will make it easier to walk at night.
The location is great. The whole ambience of the hotel is very peaceful and tranquil. The host and the crew were great in hospitality, ensuring that we were comfortable and prepared our meals accordingly. Our thanks to Randika, Ishara, Lahiru, and to the Chef Lteshan. Every night, there were two friendly dogs guarding our rooms. We liked the place very much.

GermanyIt can feel a little isolated as a solo traveler as there isn't much around.
The staff is amazing and attentive. They organized a tuktuk to go to the Elephant Transit Home as well as the safari. Safari was great. Nice food available (takes 30-45 minutes to prepare) and they already ask for your breakfast order the night before. Wifi only in some spaces but there it is very good (had great wifi in my room).

IrelandWe booked the dinner included option which was expensive compared to average prices of eating out in Sri Lanka but the food was delicious and big portions sizes. It's also a very convenient option when visiting and the dining area is very pretty.
This is a wonderful place to stay for the Safari trip. The room was huge and outdoor bathroom was beautiful (they even had a little veranda deck for the room). It was a very comfortable stay and easy to be picked up from for the Safari to Udawalawe national park. The hosts were very welcoming (loved their welcome juice) and they even let us have our breakfast later after returning from the morning safari. Would definitely recommend staying here!
