Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe loved Hobbit Hideaway. But please be aware it’s very hard to get a car to the venue. So it’s best to arrange the Tuk Tuk to meet you at the top of the road. And there are lots of steps. Breakfast was excellent. Otherwise it’s an amazing room and view is AWESOME.

United KingdomHobbit Hole Hideaway is an amazing place to stay in Ella. The view is absolutely stunning- you can see the bridge from the bed! I spent a long time relaxing on the terrace soaking in the view! The cabin is brand new and very well designed. The hosts are super kind and thoughtful and cannot do enough for you. I stayed two nights and enjoyed a beautiful Sri Lankan breakfast both days. A tuktuk can be arranged into town or just to the top entrance. I wish you the very best with your new property you’re doing a fantastic job!!! Thank you so much 😊 This property would not work if you have limited mobility or lots of luggage as there are quite a few steps down.

United KingdomNothing significant at all. The owner allowed us to store our bags in her house on checkout day for a few hours. The breakfast was outstanding and she even brought our washing in when it rained whilst we were out tea picking!
Love this place. Not inexpensive, but you really do get what you pay for. Its private, the view is amazing and having been into Ella....i wouldn't have enjoyed anywhere else as its a party town and we value our peace and quiet. Handy to walk up to Little Adam's peak and friendly little corner shop at end of the road.

BelgiumIt is a bit difficult to reach the accommodation if you travel by car. But the owner arranges tuktuk rides to the center of Ella.
What an amazing view! The accommodation was modern looking and had everything you need. We ordered the breakfast and it was very good!

IrelandOur stay at the Hobbit Hole Hideaway was simply perfect. The property is off main roads, but our hosts kindly arranged a tuktuk to pick us up. Photos are exactly representative of the beautiful, newly built property. Not only is every detail perfectly finished, but Sashi and her family were attentive, kind and proud of their work. Breakfast was fantastic and we wished our stay was longer!

NetherlandsThere was nothing that I did not like. However be aware that you have to get down some stairs to get to the place. If you’re really old or can’t walk well this may not be an ideal place to stay.
This is a new accomodation and i was incredibly amazed by it. It’s literally a hobbit home with a fantastic fairytale view on the bridge. Shower was hot and bed was really nice. It’s super modern on the inside and the little garden is really cute and spacious. You could hang out there and watch the trains pass by for hours. I actually can not think of anything that could be better. It was amazing. And for that price it’s such a gem!

GermanyAbsolutely nothing to complaint about.
Our stay at the Hobbit Hole Hideout in Ella was absolutely fantastic! The room was stunning—everything looked brand new, and the high-quality furnishings gave it a luxurious feel. The layout was well thought out, making great use of the space. The bathroom was spacious, and the shower had excellent water pressure and temperature control. The entire apartment is designed exactly as you would imagine a true hobbit hideout—cozy, charming, and full of character. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and to our delight, there was even a proper duvet, which made our stay even cozier. One of the highlights was the terrace, which offered a breathtaking view of Ella’s top attraction, the Nine Arches Bridge—a perfect spot for stunning photos! The service was outstanding. On request, we were promptly taken to and from town by TukTuk, which only took about 10 minutes each way. Breakfast was another highlight—it was brought directly to our terrace, with a variety of delicious options to choose from. Everything in the apartment was spotlessly clean, fully functional, and exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and comfort. This was by far one of the best stays we’ve ever had, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ella!

Sri LankaI didn’t realise we needed to pay by cash.
The Hobbit Hole was my favourite accomodation in my trip, with hotels on a similar budget. I could sit on the porch and look at the nine arch bridge all day. There is also a short cut to the bridge so you can get there before the crowd if you wake up early enough. It is newly constructed and the attention to detail in the cottage is evident. It is super clean, the owners were lovely. It is away from Ella which I appreciated and the owners gave me a free lift to Ella or the local junction. Highly recommend for couples. Remember to bring cash for payment, and it is a short walk to the cottage but the view is worth it.
