Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IndiaWhat an amazing place to stay. Away from all the chaos, so peaceful with great views. The host was so welcoming, helped me get a bus ticket and dropped me as well. Rooms were cozy and bathrooms clean. Lassie the dog and Charlie the cat made sure I was entertained during my stay. Also got to meet and share great conversations with amazing fellow travellers. I would come back definitely sometime. Value for money!

NetherlandsBe aware of many flies, though Thuti does everything to get them away. Breakfast is simple, but is included.
Nice hostel in a remote serene quiet area, 20 min walk to town (at night it can be treacherous). Atmosphere is very nice, getting in contact with others is easy. Fell in love with the dog and the cat. Prices very good. You can rent Thutis's scooter.

South AfricaHome Hostel is unbeatably located, funky and rustic, and totally charming. With lovely chill spots, lush surroundings, and a stunning view of the monastery on the hill, this was my favourite stay in Sri Lanka. Gihan is a wonderful host, and I really enjoyed my stay here.

RussiaMixed feelings about the owner. He seemed like a nice guy, but I didn't feel welcome there. I arrived at 5 p.m. and without even saying hello or introducing himself, he just showed me my room. After I had some questions to ask about what you see in Ella and how to get to the next town, his answers were like - yeah, people go to Ella Rock... yes, you can go to Little Adam's Peak... but my favorite was when I asked him where can I get a bus to Haputale, his answer was - in Ella town. Absolutely useless. Then he complained that I had asked too many questions. Later on, he explained that he had just woke up, fyi it was 5 p.m. The end was also unpleasant, I realized they provided towels to other guests but not me, the same as a ride to the train station. Apparently, for him, my backpack wasn't heavy enough to give me a ride, but heavy enough for a Tuk-Tuk. I left with a bad aftertaste.
Good room, a hot shower, a quiet area, not far away from the town, a good and big breakfast, a cute doggy and kitty, a nice common area, very cozy.

GermanyOne needs to know their way there at night but all good
This has a hostel feeling but as it says, private rooms only, which is nice, so you get both. The kitchen is open and tea/coffee is available. I kindly got dropped at the train station by car which was a big help with bulky luggage ! The location is stunning. Short-cut to the town centre through tea plantations. Nice pets and perfect climate & air.

GermanyI loved staying at Home Hostel. It’s the perfect getaway to escape the noisy centre of Ella, but still located in 10 minutes walking distance to the main road (the shortcut to the centre is a experience itself). The hospitality is outstanding! I rented a scooter and got dropped off at the train station at the end of my stay! I’ll come back whenever i’m in Ella!

CanadaThe walk up to the hostel can be a bit spooky late at night - it is dark and the point at which most taxis or tuktuks can drive up to still leaves a fair way for you to walk. As I mentioned before, google maps and a well charged phone with a flashlight are your friend.
Wonderful environment fostered at this stay, which usually results in making new friends in the common eating area. My private room was clean and comfy and the complementary breakfast in the morning was delicious. You can't ask for more at a stay in Sri Lanka. Friendly dog and kitty live there. Lots of things to do in Ella, but be sure to keep a well charged phone in case you need to utilize google maps or a flashlight when navigating to and from the hostel.

This place has something very special and that is the atmosphere that Chuti (the owner) has managed to create and share. Only 10 minutes from Ella (once you know the shortcut), with a cat and a dog that give you love in abundance, this place is authentic and genuine. Chuti always has a smile on his face, helps you with anything you need and the breakfast is delicious. Besides, you meet beautiful people when you stop here.

Sri LankaThe place is in the most beautiful area of Ella, it is calm surrounded by nature and an amazing view. It has an amazing chilling area that people get together and have great time at the same time your room is silent and chill. It is very clean. The host, Tuti is an amazing person, always helpful and great cook and a dear friend. He is very friendly, he let us use his kitchen, prepared amazing breakfast everyday and even he cooked us an amazing dinner after we connected well. He helps with the info you need, arranging transportation, and makes sure that you are comfortable. I prolonged my stay after my time here, and i would definitely come again. The best hostel ever!

My best stay in Sri Lanka so far. This place surprised me with its cleanliness, location, vibes and the helpful nature of Yutti. It’s close to city centre, has a sitting area with garden and hammocks. The breakfast was good. Yutti offered to drive me and fellow travellers to a waterfall where we all had a nice swim. All in all, excellent location. I would definitely stay here if I visit Ella again

United KingdomFirstly, the host Juty is amazing! A really calm and generous human being who gave great advice, allowed me to borrow his scooter for a price which was a fifth of what id been quoted elsewhere and also dropped me at the bus station in his own car. The free breakfast ( I had omelette, toast, fruit and pot of coffee) was great and the general ambiance of the place just gives a wonderful sense of calm. It’s off a little road into the jungle and so you feel part of the nature there while also having a short walking distance to the town. It was so quiet and dark at night that I got a great nights sleep. Really, for the price, it is nothing short of incredible! Also the lovely friendly dog who doesn’t bark! Thank you Juty, I had a wonderful stay, just wish it could’ve been longer! 🙏

United KingdomMore an Ella problem but leeches and mosquitos very much an issue. Location at top of hill was an issue when wanting to get to and from town, especially at night when dark
Nice and out of the way from the craziness of Ella town centre and very nice vibe at the hostel which felt like an oasis at the top of the hill. Breakfast very good - omelette & bread/jam with very good tea!
