What a fantastic place to stay! Myself and my friend ended up staying for 9 nights as we fell in love with the place as soon as we got there 🙂 the whole family is so welcoming and friendly I couldn't recommend this place enough!

We couldn't recommend Mandara Rest more highly to anybody visiting Hikkaduwa! We stayed here for almost 3 months and were very sad to leave! The rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable, spacious and just as advertised, and the owner could not be more helpful and kind! The location is a 5-10 minute walk from the beach and bus/train stations and is very peaceful, and being in a less touristy area there are lots of small local shops/restaurants nearby which are cheaper and very good! The property is covered in vines and flowers which is lovely and feels very close to nature. There are laundry facilities, 2 kitchens and a fridge that you can use, and you also have access to the lovely swimming pool next door. Highly recommend!

I had such a nice and cozy stay at Mandara Rest. The room was super clean and big and especially the balcony is super nice. The staff was very friendly and chilled and the beach and shops are in walking distance.

The neighbours on either sides of the property owned dogs that barked in the middle of night for a few hours. It was a bit annoying since it was almost every night. If you're a light sleeper then you can take chances. But other than that it's a very quiet and serene place.

Shaan was an awesome host. The place is nice and clean. Very green. We saw a mongoose family, which is very rare and beautiful birds from the rooftop. It's about 500m from the bus stand. The beach is a little walk but not too much. I would definitely stay here if I visit Hikkeduwa next time. Highly recommended.

very nice place near to the city and beach but hidden in the nature. The property is vety nice, beautiful garden, terrace, nice people..😌 just the room was very hot without AC, and downstairs very often any insect can come in, but well.. we are in Sri Lanka😄🧘🏽‍♀️ polite and helpful owner balanced everything. In the end I really enjoyed my stay😌🌴🏄🏽‍♀️ #thankyou

- You could never fully close the room. You could close the door, but around the balcony's door there were many "holes" in the wall, through which all kinds of insects could enter. Hopefully there were not many mosquitos there! so it wasn't a big problem. But I had gekons and one cockroach running around the room - at the time I was there, there were some construction works around - it's not the fault of Mandara Rest through

Really nice room, beautiful surroundings of the house (plants all over the house), the balcony, very good price for the conditions, good location, there is a little kitchen, I asked the host if they can provide me a desk to work and they easily agreed! WiFi is not great, but enough for normal usage

Keep in mind that the window in the bedroom can’t be closed, so any insect can come in. There is a mosquito net above the bed, but still insects can come in the room, in our case we found a worm and a gecko.

I like everything but the photos of the kitchen are not updated. Now it is only possible to use the upstairs kitchen. I felt that it would be better to have more utensils. There were basics but as there were other guest sometimes it was insufficient. Also it will be good to have demarcations in the fridge for each room. Also the rooms have mosquito nets and mosquito electric repellent but the slates were open. Anyway we didn't have many mosquitoes.

The location was good. But if you have a car or bike better. Otherwise it is 10 min walk. The owner is very kind. The plants they have put and the way around the property is very beautiful . We had a car and it was very comfortable to be able to park there. The room is spacious and clean. And the fact that it has a kitchen and friedge is good . A lot of birds around in the morning. Nice small terrace with access directly from the room. Very quiet ambience.

An amazing quiet place with lots of beautiful birds around. You can watch them taking their bath every afternoon. The owner was so kind and helpful. The beach was reachable by 10 -15 min walk. I would definitely come back again . You will enjoy this place a lot if you like the nature.

Not much, it was quite far from the main stretch and any restaurants/shops. I didn’t mind walking but if you’re not a fan you’d have to tuk tuk everywhere. Also lots of mosquitos as there is a lot of greenery and dampness.

Bathroom was SO nice, lovely room and lovely outdoor garden seating and scenery with all the plants. It’s a really cute and cozy little place.

My husband and I vacationed in hotels for 20 days. We really liked the hotel. Its owner and staff are very attentive and kind people. They cleaned the wonderful garden every day. Bed linen was changed frequently. They have new beautiful sets of bed linen, new towels. Service at the highest level. Wonderful garden and kitchen on the roof of the hotel. We enjoyed the sounds and sights of the Sri Lankan jungle every morning and evening. 6 minutes walk to the ocean. Silence and comfort in the rooms. We had a wonderful vacation!

Lovely quiet place, great value for money. It's near the train station and a minute walk off the main road out of town but is super green and quiet.
