Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Don’t open the window because cocaraches get inside. Keep in mind there’s an extra charge not explained on booking (I think it was a 10%). Wifi doesn’t work in the room.
Nice room, clean, comfortable bed. Great hosts.

There was no AC in the room and due to some constructions work it was a bit noisy even during the night.
Really nice family stay. The Sri Lanka breakfast was incredible. Our hosts were super helpful and gave us some great advices to explore Kandy.

Very nice stay in a guest house just minutes away from the train station. The hosts were amazing, very helpful and even picked me up at the train station at night to ensure I’m safe. The breakfast was fantastic - especially those pancakes ;)

The stay was excellent.Breakfast we had was delicious.Easy access (like walking distance) to railways, Main bus stations Kandy city center.Everyone in the staff is very kind and very helpful.I think this hotel is very good for foreigners who like to travel.This hotel is very good if you are traveling to Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Dabulla, Sigiriya.All good..100%

1. Missing air conditioning -although there was a fan in the room, it was still stuffy during the night 2. the location- although it seems on the map that the apartment is close from the railway station, in reality you have to go around, what takes about 10 min by tuk-tuk

no aircon but we knew that from the booking
it was last minute booked and the owner helped us allot. he provided us with all informations, welcomed us and showed us around, we had a good night there

- the bed wasn’t particularly comfortable - there was no comfortable seating in the room or common area - the rooms are on the ground floor of a multistory house, and can get very loud when there are people in the upstairs floor. (The people are not being loud; the house is just old.)
1. Good location near the train station and less than a 20 minute walk from many destinations 2. Very kind and communicative hosts who went out of their way to make sure I got my train ticket 3. Spacious room 4. Modern bathroom

There are no staff as such. The owner meets u when u arrive and settles up when u leave. That said he was fast to answer my query on the wifi.
Location was ideal - close to train and bus stations and easy walk to centre of town. Being located off a main road also meant it was quiet.

No air conditionner , it was messy and tiny ants have invaded everywhere in the house , it wasn’t equipped to mosquito net for windows ! We found cockroach in the bathroom and inside the room!
It’s in a good location and close to the city center , host and her assistant were nice 👍

Breakfast wasn’t very good seemed as vegetarian not eating egg you just got fruit and stale white bread.
Can walk into city easily although busy roads. Quiet location. Clean facilities with hot water. Comfy. Friendly hosts.

Although we stayed 5 nights the waste bins were not emptied or towels replaced, although this probably would have been done had we asked. The issue may be one of attitude. The room, nice enough, but needing ac, is seen possibly as a means of making money rather than offering a service, hence no welcome drink, no fridge in the room like all the other places we stayed in. Water from the shower in the bathroom is not shielded and goes everywhere, meaning if you want to go to the loo afterwards you'll get wet. Not a big deal, I admit.
This small room in a private family house was clean and modern, about ten minutes walk from the centre and restaurants. The picture above, however, is misleading in that it is not of the room. Breakfast good and monkey bars in room useful in stopping small creatures from coming in.

The room next to the kitchen was very dampy. No AC. The humidity is high and moldy smell. Visible mold.
Family run home stay. Warm and very helpful hosts. Not far to the bus/ train station. Quit and clean place.

The shower was cold. But as we were sweating after the Perehera it was fine to take a cold shower😁
Extremely nice Family and very modern room. Has a kettle and some stuff for tea and coffee. Everything was very clean ab nice. They made us really good breakfast we could take with us early in the morning at 4:14 am!☺️

We are a couple from Barcelona, and we have been the first guests of Orchard Home. The hosts were super friendly and made sure that we had everything at all times. The room is fine and the remodeled bathroom is very cozy. We had to wash our clothes and they would leave us a place to hang them and they even offered us to use the washing machine in their house. The breakfast they prepared for us was delicious and they are very hospitable. It is located in the center of Kandy, it is very worth it. We definitely recommend this place!
