four nights instead of three

The property is beautiful with lovely grounds and a delightful pool area. The restaurant serves excellent food, very large portions, and a wonderful breakfast choice. We had a poolside room which was large comfortable and clean. There was an amazing amount of birdlife all around. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The little extras such as coconut juice on arrival, bird books, mosquito repellent coils put out in the evenings made this an excellent relaxing stay. Stayed three nights and booked an all day safari to Yala via the hotel. This was well priced and we were given breakfast and a lovely riverside lunch along with snacks and drinks. Our driver was excellent at spotting wildlife and it was a fantastic memorable experience. Wholly recommend the cabanas and the safari!

The food was great. The owner and his son were really welcoming and friendly. The booked all my safaris and possible for them to book transfers. The Safari driver on the first day was lovely really knowledgeable- the second day- the driver was really great at spotting animals but drove very very fast lol Would recommend to anyone going to Yala The property is very well maintained, they can arrange anything for you - the pool was great.

The only downside is that the host can be a bit difficult to communicate with. For the payment (obligatory cash), we didn't exactly have the amount. This posed a problem and the host became weird as if he was upset to give us our 4000 rupees back and then he barely said good bye… we felt very uncomfortable.

The property is beautiful. The pool and garden are magnificent. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. The bed was comfortable and the room pleasant, close to the river. We had a great time at Richards Cabanas. We had a problem with the room and the host's father immediately took charge. He changed us to another room without a hitch. We even had a chance to chat with him - he's a very friendly person. We also enjoyed a "Birds Watching" safari with a fisherman, bookable directly with the hotel. It was a very pleasant experience.

A bit expensive for Sri Lanka

Amazing accomodation next to Yala National Park. They booked a safari for us and was incredible! Best breakfast in Sri Lanka. Nice swimming pool and fancy cabanas.

Nothing. It was perfect

Amazing three night stay at Richard’s Cabana’s.. very well appointed cabana’s with comfortable beds, airconditioning and even a fridge bathrooms spacious and clean. The garden with the pool is gorgeous and so nice to have your fruit at breakfast picked directly from the garden. The dinners are fresh and tasty and every request is taken into account. Amila, his father and the team and so friendly and always willing to help.

Great accommodation in Tissamaharama. It was very clean and comfortable. The pool area was amazing and great for relaxing after a trip to Yala National Park. The food was delicious at the restaurant as well.

Everything was excellent.

Beautiful resort, relaxed admosphere, warm and friendly staff. It is a piece of paradise, just as one would expect from the photos. Excellent base for Safari! We ordered our dinner in the afternoon and it was ready when we returned from the Safari. Amilla is a great host as well as a great chef.

Nothing, it was all fantastic

Richards Cabanas is like a beautiful piece of heaven hidden away from the outside world. It's clean and comfortable and the surroundings are spectacular. Amila is so polite and helpful and it is obvious he takes a lot of pride in everything he does. We stayed in the double room with bird watching view and it was secluded and quiet with beautiful scenery . The bed was comfortable and we had a great supply of hot water. The food is very tasty, both the breakfast and evening meal. If you are going on a safari, you have your breakfast boxed up, along with snacks if it's a full day. If you're eating in the restaurant then you let them know what you want by 6pm for the evening meal and tick up to 10 choices for breakfast the night before. We had the western breakfast and there were choices such as toast, sausages, omelette, bacon, curd, pancakes etc. So much to choose from and totally delicious. They had soft drinks, beer and red wine available. When you mentioned I drink white wine, Amila told me they would go to buy some so I could enjoy a glass of 2 withe meal for the 3 nights we were there We booked 2 safaris with Amila, the full day Yala and half day Bundala, both were excellent and highly recommend. We were extremely lucky to get really close to one of the leopards and saw many different species of birds and animals (my favourite will always be the elephants) Although we didn't use the pool it looked clean and inviting. We were told they provide towels, a changing room and showers. I cannot recommend Richards Cabanas highly enough and am so glad we chose to stay there. Thank you Amila and all of the staff

Awesome stay in beautiful hotel. One of the best hotel we stayed in, nice garden, clean rooms and pool and lovely Staff! Super to relax and enjoy Yala Nationalpark. The owner even gifted us a fresh avocado from their botanical garden. Definitelly recommended, we will come back. Thank you!

No negatives whatsoever - I was sad to leave!

An absolutely stunning place to stay! We were surrounded by luscious greenery and spotted kingfishers and peacocks as we relaxed by the poolside. Our cabin was clean, spacious and comfortable and the breakfast and dinner were delicious. Amila and his family were so friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful - they arranged an excellent safari, took us to a local festival and sorted our transport to our next location.

I mean you will find mosquitoes, but nothing you can't deal with. The room tends to get hot during the day. If the property gets insulation on the roof, it will help prevent that.

Breakfast was good, a great place to chill after the safari, to be honest. Have a nice beer, order some fries, and chill by the pool after a disappointing day at Yala national park.

pool was a bit far. you need to go out of the property and go into another one, like a 5 min walk. so if you really want to enjoy the pool, is better that you choose a room closeby. i would recommend checking out the restaurants in town as well.

Perhaps kind of hot in room if I don't open AC, perhaps there need a window.

It's convenient to book Yala National Park Safari from hotel. The villa seems great with beautiful swinging pool, it's a pity that I couldn't swim. Room facilities are kind of good,especially I see the kettle, that's really important for me.
