Gayan and his family were fantastic hosts. The location is a bit out of the centre of Ella, but that for us was a huge positive. It was a lot quieter and the walk into Ella was stunning. We walked down the hill and along the train tracks which I would definitely recommend as the scenery was amazing. The views from the hotel were absolutely outstanding and we had a large balcony with our room, which was great. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with omelette, fruit, pancakes and home made dhal. The family who runs the hotel were so friendly and made us feel very welcomed.

We had a wonderful one night stay at Shining Green View. It's a lovely family-owned business who provided great hospitality. Our rooms were immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel is situated high in the mountains with stunning views. Breakfast was amazing!

On the way up the hill to the property you pass a full-blown garbage dump that smells like the contents of a sewer have been pickled and microwaved. It's quickly passed though and what awaits you on your balcony in the morning more than makes up for it.

The view is outrageous. Absolutely spectacular. Also, the property is a short tuktuk ride (under 10 mins) from the town centre.

We had a beautiful stay at Shinning Green View. Gorgeous location - just outside the main town with glorious views of the surrounding hills. The staff were super nice and accommodating. Our original room was at the bottom of the hotel down many steps which was difficult with two small children - so they moved us to another room. It was also our youngest child’s first birthday when we were staying, and they went to the trouble of buying him a big chocolate cake and cuddly toy monkey. A lovely special touch which will always make his first Birthday memorable. Lovely people and a lovely place to enjoy Ella’s charms. Thank you

You should be aware that this hotel is a bit away from the city centre. But then you get the perfect view instead. And it only took 10 min with a tuk tuk to get into the city centre.

An excellent stay. With such beautiful views and very friendly staff. The owners are very helpful and can organise tuk tuks into town (much better to stay up the hill away from the hustle bustle of town and with the views). The food is very nice, we had dinner a few nights we are there and they paid such such attention to detail and it tasted amazing. Five minutes drive up the road is a lovely organic tea farm, which does great tours daily. The best thing about the location is its proximity to the Ella Rock walk, down some steps to a local train station. On the walk Grun cottage a great place to stop for a drink and food on the way down

My family and I have just spent 2 nights at Shining Green View. We favoured a spot on the hillside slightly away from the main town (5 mins and 1000 rupee in a tuk tuk), and we’re glad we did. A beautiful breakfast with a breathtaking view. Sitting on the balcony in the morning or enjoying an evening drink to the sound of a peacock choir is a memory I’ll remember fondly. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. We’re touring around Sri Lanka staying in a mix of pricey and more reasonably priced accommodation. The hotel is not expensive and incredible value for money. Amazing staff, cracking view and great breakfast. Thank you 🙏

One mosquito net had small holes in it, but that‘s the only critic to find!

The hosts were the kindest people and did everything they could to make our stay perfect! They arranged all our TukTuks and Taxis for reasonable prices and had all the recommendations for the area. You got answers on all your texts within minutes. The rooms were perfectly clean and spacious. The view from the balcony was stunning and the breakfast was really yummy with a great view as well. All in all a perfect stay, we would definitely come again!

The room and view from the balcony are just great. We got up only to see the sunrise from our terrace. The breakfast is great - fruits, coffee & juice, omelette, toast, and Sri Lankan specialties such as roti and curry. Its a family business and Gayan and his brothers are really attentive and helpful with everything you need. They arranged for us a good price for getting by tuktuk into town and to the Monastery and back. One night we had dinner made by one of the brothers and the Kottu and Noodles were delicious. We loved that the accommodation was outside the quite touristy Ella city centre.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Shining Green View! The views were absolutely unmatched, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They went out of their way to arrange drives for me to and from downtown while I shopped or hung out, which made my trip so much easier. Their help with figuring out the train was especially appreciated. Felt safe for a solo traveler which is HUGE! The room was surprisingly comfortable—way more doable than I expected based on the pictures. And the warm, clean shower was a welcome relief after a long day. Overall, the service made me feel truly welcomed, and I’d definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!

The room and balcony view was spectacular, the breakfast amazing with monkeys putting on a great show. We also appreciated the sweet staff that took such great care of us.

Location was perfect and view from room was awesome. Room was too big and comfortable. Staffs were too nice, polite, supporting and friendly. They arranged everything we asked. We asked for Indian style ginger tea and they offered us for free. They prepare local cuisine for dinner on our request and it was delicious. Love from India. Overall it exceeded my expectations. Recommended!

Lights could be more ambient eg: yellow light instead of white light

It was a lovely venue, more like a homestay. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was good. The view from the balcony was amazing. Suitable for families but there is no lift. You’ll have to climb the staircase with railings so it’s ok. Tha balcony was huge and lovely.

- Since the accommodation is up a hill you are a little far away from the city center and probably need a TukTuk ride back (especially at night). However, the way down has a shortcut by foot that goes along the train tracks

- Staff is young, friendly and accommodating - Breakfast had a lot of variety from fresh fruits to traditional daal and sweet rice pancakes - Amazing sunrise view, if you are lucky you can also see the Ella train pass by - We had a very spacious room - Cute local restaurants in walking distance - They offer fair TukTuk prices to the city with their own driver
