We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeThe rooms are a bit dark (no windows other than the doors) and we were hoping for a bit of a view of the fort. Also, there is was no mosquito netting which made for some bites overnight.
The people were very nice and welcoming

United KingdomCan’t speak for other rooms but courtyard Room 11 smelt strongly of damp after the room spray had worn off. Avoid this room if you can. The sheets felt damp. There is very little to no natural light or ventilation when the doors are closed (probably why it is damp). If we were staying longer than 1 night we would have asked to move rooms. Pillows not great. Two short hairs on our breakfast plates/glasses. Didn’t appreciate the manager approaching us whilst we ate telling us he had the flu.
Great location. Shower was good. Stunning building with fabulous rooftop terrace. Nice breakfast food and welcome plate for our honeymoon. Pleasant and helpful staff.

United KingdomRoom was very small and bathroom was average. Additionally, an opaque glass “ swing door”, with gaps from top to bottom and side to side, separated the bathroom from the sleeping area. This resulted in a lack of privacy with all that is associated when using a bathroom ! Why do hotels persist with these ridiculous designs ?
Breakfast and polite, friendly staff.

United KingdomThe courtyard rooms are right outside where people eat breakfast (in the courtyard as labelled…), but it is quite noisy in the morning. People can sit on the terrace, but it’s a bit of a sun trap so everyone was downstairs on our stay. This was our first stop and we were jetlagged, sadly this disrupted our sleep. Also the door to the courtyard is the only daylight to the room, we had the shutter closed most of the time for privacy. We had a few other minor problems with lights and plugs not working that staff sorted. Overall we enjoyed it, but was expensive even by western standards considering the above.
Pretty stunning building & location. Staff were excellent and attentive. Great breakfast - you select 1 of 4 options for the main, then there’s toast, fruit, fruit juice, lassi, coffee/tea too. The western option was very good, but definitely try the local options (egg curry and coconut rice was banging).

United KingdomThe hotel has dated a lot since the photos were taken. The rooftop area has degraded and they do not serve any refreshments or drinks up there. All the plugs in our room did not work apart from one. No windows in the bedroom.

Hong KongThe room was not very clean. The sheet looks old and not clean. I slept with a pyjama and a robe under so I don’t need to sleep on the sheet. There were some tiny bugs running on fridge. The bathroom drained water very slowly during shower. It’s better to put one table before the mirror, so there is a space to put stuff.
The staff were very nice and kind. The property is in a good location and we can see sunset from our room. The house is pretty. I really like the green plants on the wall. The breakfast was very nice too.

RomaniaThe second room where we stayed, the one in the tower, is much smaller than the room on the second floor. The bed is not for two people. There is no wardrobe for clothes, and the sink is in the room. The bed linens had an unpleasant smell. The electrical outlets were not properly fixed in the wall. The walls showed signs of mold. The refrigerator was not restocked with water every day.
The location is very good. It is in the fort, and nearby there are restaurants, souvenir shops, and jewelry stores. The breakfast was very good (fruits, omelets, fruit juice, pancakes). And our own terrace, perfect to watch the sunset.

AustraliaThe hotel offers a unique experience, particularly if you appreciate staying in historic buildings. The charm of the past is well-preserved, and the friendly, attentive staff enhance the overall atmosphere. However, the price point feels comparable to that of a five-star hotel, yet the facilities don't reflect this. The rooms are very basic for the cost, with no TV and minimal amenities. While the setting is appealing, especially for history enthusiasts, you might find more comfort and better value at other nearby options, such as the Lighthouse Hotel, which offers more modern conveniences at a similar or lower price.

United Arab EmiratesThe first room was really tiny for two and the bathroom did seem functional. Breakfast could have been better with some real cappuccino and not powder coffee.
The staff were very helpful. We had just had a very long travel day and arrived in a tiny room with 120cm bed for two and shower that wasn't working. The staff upgraded us in a lovely room. The first room is really not worth the price unfortunately (they wrote it was a double bed but it's almost a single bed).

United KingdomBreakfast was rather disorganised - some days cooked breakfast arrived before fruit... Tea came right at the end of the meal. No tea bags in the room ... the shower head was very blocked and didn't run at all well - we asked them to fix which they never did. Breakfast tables and chairs need upgrading.

Sri LankaWe stayed in the North tower room. It is very small but a really interesting little room, with a terrace with fantastic view as mentioned before but a few negative points: 1) the room should have at least a place where guests can hang clothing. 2)The A/C didn't work properly. 3) There was no fan in the room. 4) For our bad luck there was a power black out in the Fort that night and the hotel doesn't have a generator nor solar panel system with inverter battery system so we had to leave the windows opened all night, and mosquitoes came into the room. We suggest for the hotel to have at least all in one emergency battery operated fan and light into the room, in case of power cuts, but a more reliable system may be needed.
Nicely located. Great staff, very friendly. Superb breakfast. Clean. Fantastic view over the rampart, the sea and the Fort from our balcony, for the room in the tower.

United KingdomThe aircon isn’t great and is quite loud. There were power cuts on both nights - the first night for 2 hours and it was boiling, the second night it was less than 5 mins. I would recommend a first or second floor room - the ground floor room must not get any light in. On the first night the bedding and towels had stain marks all over them - we had to ask for the towels to be changed and then at 11pm when going to bed the bed sheets to be changed. The bathroom had black hairs in it (I’m blonde), and the sink had a leftover toothpaste carton in it from the previous guests plus no water in either of the rooms we stayed in until requested - attention to detail. The manager was in constant contact checking in and the upgrade was very appreciated.
We had some issues with our first room, and were upgraded because of this and this was very appreciated, but it didn’t involve a very bad night sleep for 1 out of the 2 nights we stayed. The hotel itself is beautiful, the roof terrace, the fairy lights, the location all so lovely. Breakfast was good! We even had breakfast on our balcony on the final evening which was lovely. The bathroom was amazing - best shower we have come across in the 9 hotels we stayed in.

GermanyPlease be aware that the courtyard rooms are very small and have no windows. Daylight only passes through the inner doors which will then mean you have no privacy, because you’re on the ground floor and everyone can look inside. You’re barricaded in a small cave. The installed lights are uncomfortably cold. I know, these aspects are made somewhat clear in the room description but the photos don’t do it justice. It would all be fine if these rooms didn’t come at such a hefty price. For the 100 USD charged there will be better options, even in fort.
