Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Wonderful home stay run by Isanka and his family. Nice room which was spotlessly clean on arrival. The house is in a lovely garden setting surrounded by lush greenery. isanka himself is a font of all knowledge when it comes to the local area. He helped me with many aspects of my travel and nothing seemed too much trouble for him. I would’ve stayed longer here if I could. Highly recommended!

Very nice accommodation with helpful and warm host He helped us with all our questions and organised a safari and taxi to the next place on our trip for a very fair price. Saman is in contact with the rangers, so he knows which park has the best chance of seeing elephants. The breakfast was also very good and, above all, always very plentiful. It is a mix of Sri Lankan food and there are always eggs, toast and jam.

the property is very nice. the location, the rooms are very clean, we enjoyed our time with elephant lake villa very much. The breakfast was so delicious.

There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like it as it was all good, there was nothing to complete.
The property is very clean and room too, the room can be a bit small but for two people, its just much enough!. The place is just aside the main road so its very accessible. Host is very friendly and I do not wonder why Sigiriya got this title recently for the most welcoming city on earth on the booking.com platform. 😌 I highly recommend the place if you’re on a budget trip as their rate is so valuable. The breakfast was so big and we couldn’t finish it! Im definitely going back!

Sigiriya Rock Hostel is an absolute gem! The location is unbeatable—just a few minutes from Sigiriya Rock, making it incredibly convenient if you want to climb for the sunrise. Being so close saves time and effort, making the experience even more enjoyable. The host is incredibly friendly and helpful. He made us feel welcome from the start and even drove us—for free—to a stunning viewpoint where we could watch the sunset with breathtaking views of Sigiriya Rock. Truly an unforgettable experience! The breakfast was excellent, with delicious and filling portions to start the day right. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable—perfect for a short and pleasant stay. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. The hospitality, location, and thoughtful extras make this hostel a standout choice. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sigiriya!

Very delicious, abundant Sri Lankan breakfast; kind hosts, with a familial atmosphere. The house is located a bit outside the main road with restaurants but reachable by foot or tuk tuk at night. We also booked a few tuk tuk trips and safari with the host.

We have stayed at rock hostel two nights. The place is very nice, immersed in nature and perfect for resting and relaxing. Lakmal is an amazing host, he is always available, whenever you need something. He’s ready to give you nice tips for your staying and arrange anything you may need. They also offer delicious food: I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a beautiful piece of Sri Lanka.

The place is in the middle of beautiful garden. Where you can see and hear only the Animals. It was absoluty amazing. Traditional breakfast with fresh fruits gave us lots of energy. The owners were caring and friendly. They helped us to organize the transfer and the safari in very good price. Drivers and guide we got were also very professional. Fully recommend!

We loved to stay at Hostel, we spent there 2 days. madura was the best host, he is very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and huge. The breakfast and the dinner were also amazing, very delicious. We liked that they were served traditional SriLankan food. Everything was perfect, we highly recommend it.

We stayed at the Rock hostel for two nights. The way we got treated by the staff was really exceptional. A wonderful breakfast gets served every morning and the owner and his father are very helpful and responsive. Do not expect luxury, but for what you pay, you really get a wonderful accommodation!
