Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

United KingdomThis is a wonderful homestay, we had a lovely time here! The hosts (Danu and others) were so helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and have their own private balconies with views over the hills. You are 10 minutes out of the centre of Ella which is perfect because Ella itself is very touristy and busy. We were given lots of advice and help to plan activities in the area.

RussiaThere were a couple of minor drawbacks—the fan wasn’t working at first, but the staff quickly replaced it, and the facilities were a bit old.
Staying at this homestay was a wonderful experience, especially for nature lovers. The location high in the mountains provided an absolutely stunning view, with the sunrise being a highlight of my trip. It was peaceful and quiet, yet still conveniently close to the center. The staff was very caring and attentive, always making sure guests were comfortable. They also offered a tuk-tuk service at a reasonable price, which made getting around easy. The local breakfast gave a nice taste of authentic cuisine.

IrelandIt is a little bit out of town but we enjoyed the quietness and beautiful scenery.
Amazing staff who were so helpful and kind to arrange everything for us including Tuk tuks wherever we wanted to go and also arranged transport to the next location of our trip. Room had a balcony with incredible views over the hills.

United StatesThe guesthouse has an amazing view and rooms are good size and nice and clean. The fan in our room broke though. :( it can get a little stuffy since you don't want to leave doors open due to insects. Shower is hot, although pressure is so so and the shower heads could be replaced. Breakfast is good, although some variety would be nice. Same thing each day - fried egg, fruit, toast. The fruit smoothie is nice. Some Sri Lankan options would be good. Slightly out of town but you can get tuktuk for 500-700 rupees. Overall a great stay and would recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay! Our room was clean and comfortable and the view from the room was spectacular. The location was excellent, away from the busy town but only 20 min walk or 5 min tuktuk from the centrum. The staff was extremely friendly and ready to help / arrange what ever is needed. Food/breakfast was delicisious and versatile.

JapanSome small bugs on our beds, but it did not bother us. I think it is the nature of the location.
The staff was very kind and friendly. We were welcomed very warmly even we arrived late and they looked after us thoroughly. I really enjoyed a chat with the staff. He told us about Ella and gave us good tips to travel around. Needless to say, the view from the balcony was stunning!

United KingdomThere is some road noise at the back of the homestay but it did not impact our sleep. Tuktuk drivers try to charge 1500slr to get you back to the homestay in the evening but they will come down to 800slr.
Collected from Ella train station by Oshan in his tuktuk. Ella train station is very busy so I was glad we arranged pickup beforehand. We had the top apartment which had a large balcony a large comfortable double bed with a mosquito net, kettle and a quiet fridge which was very useful. Bathroom had a nice hot shower. Everything was very clean. From the balcony and from our bed we could see the sun rise. From the balcony we could see part of the railway line and could follow the progress of the slow noisy trains as it wound its way around the hill. We hired a twist and go scooter/moped from Oshan for 2 days to allow us to get into Ella town easily. Cost was 2,500slr per day. It was a bit underpowered for the steep parts of the hills but mostly okay. Breakfast was lovely. We had mixed smoothy, tea/coffee, fried egg, toast, fruit platter and then a little something extra each day. This homestay is run by 3 young men who were extremely polite, courteous, helpful and were always willing to help.

United KingdomWow what a wonderful homestay! Lovely room, hot shower and incredible balcony with uninterrupted views right across the valley. The staff are extremely friendly and will do anything to make your stay perfect. The homestay is just up the hill from the town, which means it is away from all the noise. There are still other restaurants and a cooking class within 6 minutes walk.

United KingdomThe only potential downside is you're a bit outside of town but we preferred this anyway since town can be quite busy
The room was basically brand new. Big room with a big bathroom and a massive balcony with an amazing view. A bit out of Ella town but easy enough to catch a Tuk-tuk in for about 500 rupees and takes about 5 minutes. About 20-25 minute otherwise which is fine downhill into town but a bit of a trek coming back. Will and his 2 sons were amazing hosts and were extremely helpful with sorting any transport requests you had or with recommendations of what to do. It's also very close to the start of the walk to Ella's rock so you can just walk straight from the accomodation. The breakfast was really good and the restaurant is available for lunch and dinner if you don't feel like heading into town. Overall, a great place to stay while in Ella

United StatesMy dinner the first night took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to arrive, which was a bit disappointing because I was really hungry.
I really liked this homestay. The view from my balcony was incredible and I really enjoyed reading and relaxing outside taking in the views. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. The location is about a 25-30 min walk up in the hills from the town, but I didn’t mind this - the walk to and from town was very peaceful and being outside the town means you get better views. The staff also arranged a driver to Yala for me, which was appreciated.

RussiaSometimes had to wait about 5 minutes for hot water, but it's negligible
I absolutely enjoyed the stay. I had an early safari tour (5 am) and checkout (6 am), the bothered to pack my breakfast take away. They also have a tuktuk driver who will kindly provide you a tour through Ella. The room was nice and clean, and most importantly, the view! You could see all the mountains from the room or the little terrace. It’s located uphill, but is close enough to the city. I would stay here again if I have an opportunity.

Everything! My happy place is now thinking of the time I would sit on my balcony, look out over the valley at the mountains, hear the peacocks crying and drinking tea. This place was absolutely perfect in everyway! The hosts were so sweet and kind, helping with everything I needed. The room was clean and equipped with everything I could need. Only the wifi was not so stable, but that was a minor detail. The view was simply stunning, even from the bathroom (full floor to ceiling window!)! The breakfast was so delicious and every morning slightly different. Next time I visit, I will stay for a month! <3

United KingdomLocation was slightly further out but it needs to be to have the views we did from our balcony, it was so worth it and easy to get tuk tuk into town provided by hostel.
The views were amazing and the property was so private. Will and his staff were so good, couldn’t do enough for you. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. We also rented a scooter for a really good price from them.
