Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ItalyI booked a bed in a "mixed" dorm but the booking resulted as "male" dorm. The staff took a week to conferm that there are only men in the hostel and never accepted their fault in providing wrong description. the booking was not refundable and though I explained that I don't feel safe sleeping in a male dorm, they didn't help me or refund the money. I am sorry for a bad review but this is you responsibility, guys

EstoniaI would say "you get what you pay for", but that isn't even true - Fortuna hostel isn't even THAT cheap and I have stayed at many hostels for a similar or even lower price that have been much nicer. Decided to give this place a chance because I've found reviews about hostels are often exaggerated and make it seem much worse than it actually is. But this place really surprised me negatively. I am generally very lenient with hostels and not too demanding about cleanliness, but the overall grimy feeling of this hostel was too much even for me. Everything was just old, dirty, broken, unpleasant and uncared for, and everything about the environment combined made for an uncomfortable stay. You will not find the classic hostel crowd here, the main clientele seems to be middle aged men in tracksuits who for some reason insist on sitting in the common areas and hallways for hours, often talking loudly on their phones into the late hours, or simply just sitting there and staring at you whenever you leave your room. Feels creepy. The walls and doors are very thin, so you will hear everything. Lumpy, creaky, uncomfortable beds. Moldy shower curtains. Thin windows, all the noise AND the cold from outside comes in very easily. Overall just seems like nobody cares, because there's a lot of stuff that could be fixed up easily with little money, but the owners don't want to put in the effort to make this a nicer place. Please do yourself a favor and pay a little more to stay somewhere else. Absolutely nothing to recommend or compliment about this place.
Staff was helpful. Location was convenient.

PolandNEVER book them by Booking. They demand payment at arrival, yet still charge your card afterwards. Instead of realizing the reservation, at the arrival THEY SOLD US A NEW ROOM without saying, and later charged the card for the one already booked "because it was left empty waiting for you, we could not sell it". Asked for a refund, they said we have to settle it with booking.com, yet Booking procedures led us nowhere. Anyway, the room was smelly, there were ponds of water on the floor and the pillows stank of sweat.

TurkeyI did not like that we had to get the linen and towels from the reception during the check-in and bring them back during the check-out. In addition, The linen and towels were a bit old.
Nice staff. Big room. You don't have to go far to smoke because the room has a shared balcony. There are a small kitchen and some equipment in the room to cook or just to heat the water for tea/coffee. They allowed us to check in early as soon as the room was ready.

SpainThe room (#7) itself was okay but sadly it was located next to an open balcony that allowed smoking where the windows open to that balcony and we were unable to open to the room windows due to constant smoking in the area even until night time. It was also fairly noisy from other guests who slammed their doors and disrespected the hostel rules of noise curfews beyond the stipulated hours. Beds were also a little too soft.
Location is great, 5 mins walk from the Gates of Dawn..

EstoniaThe whole hostel was not clean. Bed linen was too short for the bed so I had to use towel to cover the remaining part of the mattress. I guess that the staff cleans the shared kitchen every day, however, other tenants were unable to clean after themselves, they left dirty dishes etc. Many tenants in the shared space were loud and apparently drunk. If I was alone, I would not feel safe here. The hallways smelled like mixture of mold and chlorine.
The location was perfect. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The price was quite pleasant.

United StatesCleanliness or lack of it. The room smelled, it was not cleaned at all after the last guest and it had a nasty organic smell. Dirty and rusty shower and vanity, mold around both. I kept finding large ants in the kitchenette around the sink. Bed sheets were washed but with stains on them. As a guest you have to put the sheets on the bed and take them off and bring to laundry when you check out. The whole place just did not feel safe or sanitary. Not to mention how overpriced it was - 108 euros for 3 nights with fees and taxes for 1 person in a private room with a shower. I stayed in 2 and 3 star hotels in the Baltics for that price. And there is a huge reason the exterior of this place is never photographed, please see photos I posted. Paper thin walls, you can hear everything from rooms next door, even when they plug the phone charger into the wall!!!
The only thing I liked was fast wifi. Location is convenient because it is walking distance to main bus station, train station and old town. BUT, trains tracks are next to the hotel and it gets noisy when trains go by.

FinlandFirst the staff didn't know the English very well. I can just communicate with Google translate. And I was travelling alone,I was not recommend anyone to live in the dormitory alone. This hostel also live with many local workers, poor homeless people and some undefined people. First day I enter the room. Two people in it were not very kind and they communicate very late as well as snoring overnight made me felt very terrible. On the second day,I have to pay extra 50 euros to rise up in a twin room. Now the room is quiet. But the facilities are so old and the shared bathroom was stuff when I take a shower.
The only advantage is very very close to the old town, I can travel to there very easy.

LithuaniaThe room in the picture and the room in real life were completely different. The room was freezing, covered in the dustiest carpet I've seen in my life. You could actually smell the dust in the air. There were 3 beds (1 single, 2 bulk) instead of the 2 singles that we booked, and the bulk beds were extremely uncomfortable. The kitchen had like 2 mugs for the whole floor.
location of hostel was good. The check in process was somewhat smooth, even though they haven't had "our room" prepared yet.
