We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

United KingdomRoom felt unfinished with no door to the bathroom and the shower (like a wet room) The shower drain was very slow to drain water so had to put towels down to stop water from coming into the main room. There was a door from the bathroom to the corridor which had a light switch on the outside anyone could press. The door also had frosted glass so light came in all night. The curtains didn’t cover the whole length of the door to outside on the patio so light also came in early. Payed for a room with a patio but we had no patio furniture like showed in the pictures advertised. We had to ask for toilet roll multiple times as was only provided with 1 initially and wasn’t restocked when cleaned. Bed was uncomfortable Breakfast was okay but only between 8-9:30 so there was no chance to have a relaxing morning. All the appliances provided (hairdryer, kettle etc) have EU plugs when the room uses UK plugs so couldn’t use them. The host is unprofessional when there is any problem.
Nice view for breakfast

Lebanon- I was on the first floor. The elevator button was not working, so I had to take the stairs each time I was leaving, and the stairs were small. - The room has a weird smell - The bed is not comfortable - My room was next to the street, so I was able to hear the cars all night long, which was annoying and made it harder to sleep
- Check-in was smooth and easy - There are public parking spots nearby - Close to the city

United KingdomThere was a light which couldn’t be turned off which shine through a pointless glass bathroom door directly from the outside corridor into my room …absolutely ridiculous , I may as well have slept with a light on. It kept me awake and gave me a headache …also the air conditioning didn’t work.

United KingdomTV had no reception, air con and fridge did not work. No tea or coffee, just a kettle. No chairs in outside area. Exposed wiring in wall. Front door slams loudly. Door code changed without being informed. After several times of asking, I still have no invoice. Many of the plug sockets didn't accept plugs they are designed to. Need I go on, with a little TLC, this could be a great place.
Location was great and the lady that does the breakfast and cleans the rooms was friendly. The breakfast wasn't bad.

ArmeniaThe room was freshly renovated but everything seemed cheaply made including the sockets and the thin walls, which did not provide any sound insulation. The feeling was that I sleep in a 10 people dorm, because every time guests arrived I could hear all their voices, even when people were aware that it is after midnight and they should not shout. Another highlight was that all the sockets were UK style and all the plugs of the appliances e.g. kettle, hairdryer, refrigerator were EU style and of course no power adapter in the room. Next disappointment was the breakfast. Don't get fooled with nice photos - you don't get a real bread, pastries are not fresh (probably from some supermarket chain), "natural" juice tastes unnatural, and 5 people in the kitchen do not manage to keep the tables clean and the buffet table filled... I could imagine a similar breakfast in some small village where people start experimenting with B&Bs, but not in this city in Malta. So if you decide to stay here do not pay for the breakfast unless you are super tight with the budget. Overall I did not feel well treated in the place and won't recommend this place.
The only few things I liked about this place are the comfy bed, coffee and olives at the breakfast and the location, but this review is about Privilege Suit SLiema, because 0.5 hour before the check-in time I was informed that because of "technical issues" they cannot host me in Valletta, so I was offered to stay in their accommodation in Sliema. As a city it is a nice residential town, but the accommodation was a big disappointment. The room I booked in Valletta was a room with terrace, while in the new place I was put on a ground floor with a tiny window looking at the wall. I asked for a change and the promise was that the next day I will get a room with a normal window, but as you can guess the next day after I packed my things and left the luggage in the improvised locker space, I was told that unfortunately they do not have the promised room! So I ended up having 0 trust in people who manage the place.

SlovakiaLet's start with the type of the room. We were supposed to have a room with sea view. Instead, we got a room on the ground floor with a backyard with 4 walls. The room was meant to be for the disabled, as it didn't have a door to the bathroom. The bathroom was also equipped for the disabled, meaning the shower not having curtains or walls and toilet with higher seating. Not to mention that they forgot to tell us how to switch on the boiler to have warm water. It was so uncomfortable...There was no space for hanging the towels. There was one adapter for plugs, but all devices (kettle, TV, hairdryer, fridge, lamp) had EU plugs. Even if we could plug in the TV, it had no receiver or other cables, meaning it wouldn't work. There was a wifi, but the internet wasn't working. All of these problems were reported to the host, asking them to switch our room. They wrote us back on the second day that they're really sorry but there was a trouble with drain and 4 other rooms were affected, so there's no other room where we can move. For the warm water issue, we had to solve it on our own because they only answered "the plug is next to the bathroom". There was no willingness to help with anything, even the access code to the building was sent to us when we were already in front of the door and we couldn't get in, though we were calling them on the phone, they didn't answer. On our last day during breakfast, the manager only came to us and other guests asking for the tax. The dirty mugs and towels were our slightest problem, really.
The breakfast was quite acceptable.

United StatesThis guesthouse locates in a run-down neighborhood, inside looks ok, but not functioning: no enclosure for the shower, the bathroom was flooded after the shower; no door for the bathroom, the hallway lights went through the bathroom window to light up the sleeping area the entire night; the curtains were not big enough to cover the window, and the fridge didn’t have the correct plug. I was tired, went to sleep anyway. But I was woken up by huge noises around 9:30pm, it turned out the toilet bowl was gargling itself! I flushed the toilet, the noise stopped, I struggled to go back to sleep. Then one hour later the same gargling woke me up again. I took a video, contacted the manager (no onsite personnel), later two staffs came, but the noise already stopped after one more time flushing. I explained what had happened, showed them the video, and suggested an easy solution was to switch me to another room. But they insisted that nothing was wrong, this was a brand new room. One staff talked to the manager and passed the phone to me. Instead of apologizing, the manager wanted to cancel my reservation, asked me to pack and leave this guesthouse immediately! The reason was I had given pressure to her staffs. That was almost 11pm! Of course I insisted not to do so. They left. Then the gargling happened almost once every hour, and each time I got up to flush it to stop the noise. And other noises started to pop up from the shower drain. Around 6am, the room (number 311, on ground floor) smelled awful, then I saw the brown sewage came in the room under the sliding door from the courtyard! What a nightmare! I had enough, just got up, packed and left as quick as possible.

GreeceWe arrived at the hotel around 12pm but none was there. They told us that we would receive the code at 3pm, and never answered where we could leave our luggage. We returned at 3pm, and we saw that our room was for disabled people without a door in the bathroom (very uncomfortable). The owner was willing to change our room the next day. The bedsheets were unironed, dirty, with hairs. There were hairs on the floor, ants walking around, and a cockroach on the curtains. The 2nd day, we arranged with the owners to leave our stuff in the previous room, to transfer them to our new room, after it was cleaned. We returned and found out that our stuff was not there. We called the owner and she refused it. Finally, we found them outside the previous room, in the common area. Their response initially was that there are cameras and there is no security issue, but her colleague told us that it was his mistake and apologized. In the new room, we noticed that the toilet cistern was not working. We called them again, and they sent us another man, who saw that the cistern valve was switched off. The 3rd day, the new room was not cleaned (bedsheets and towels were not changed). The 4th day, at breakfast time (at 9am), my friend was discussing with a couple about their complaints (that they were sent to another hotel in Sliema) and our problems. The owner started yelling in front of everyone, asking why we chose this hotel, accusing us of switching off the toilet valve on purpose and putting the cockroach in the curtains, asking us to leave the hotel until 11am, and to be refunded our money for the last night. I told her that I don't trust her after seeing the previous reviews, and she asked me to take a photo of the message she sent to Booking (requesting the cancellation of our reservation for the last night), noticing that the message had been sent an hour before we went for breakfast (at 8:05am). We have not encountered more rude, irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour.
I travelled to Malta with my friend and we chose a double room for 5 days (4 nights). The only thing that met our expectations was the location. The accommodation had a good view, the area was easily accessible, very close to Valletta. There is a bus stop outside the accommodation. There was a charging adaptor in the room, as promised. The breakfast was average, without much variety, but it could satisfy you. The WiFi worked until our last day at the accommodation, when it stopped working. The elevator could be used from all floors except the 1st (to which we were transferred on the 2nd day of our stay). Finally, our last day, they kicked us out of the room (asking why we continued to stay since we didn't like the hotel), and you can read in the negatives below how our stay there turned out. Booking suggested us to ask for compensation beyond the refund for the last night due to psychological burden and suffering, which they obviously refused. Fortunately, we soon found a new accommodation for our last night, where a very kind lady was waiting for us, who made sure to keep our stuff safe before check-in, and had already transferred them to our very clean room by the evening we returned at the hotel (as opposed to the Privilege Suite). So, all the negatives you will see below do not allow me to give a better rate. I travel very often, and I have never done such a bad review before. They are liars and try to blame guests about everything and to drive them crazy. Τhey are trying to drive away their guests and not to please them! DO NOT TRUST THEM! Our stay there was the only bad thing during our trip to Malta.

HungaryThis is my first time travelling alone and never experienced anything like this. I booked a double room with balcony. When I arrived I realized I didn’t get a balcony room so I contacted the property. The lady was very rude from the very first moment and she didn’t give me extensive information just said that I will get a refund of the price difference and another room for the next day. The first room was already extremely noisy and the constant light coming from the corridors was not pleasant (I attach some photos of the room and light for reference). In the morning there were no hot water when I tried to shower. The next day they offered to move my luggage to the new room as I couldn’t be here during the day. They put me on the first floor which was even noisier as it was closer to the road and it had a traditional ‘Maltese balcony’ which is closed. When I booked the property this is not the room on the photos for what I paid extra. So take care when you book your room with balcony and sea view as they only have one of those. The breakfast was on the top floor in a tiny place and most of the tables are outside so if it is windy bring a warm pullover or jacket.

GreeceWe arrived at the apartment and the outdoors door was locked requiring a special code, which was never shared with us, we were looking for somebody to talk, nobody was there except for a cleaning lady who came later and informed us that we should move to another location; so, she gave us a ride to the other apartment which had only a really small lamp next to the bed (no central lamp in the whole room), no airconditing for free, the bathtub faucet was broken (so, we were not able to wash ourself) and even though it was supposed to have breakfast, they did not serve it. We had booked 2 nights, but it was intolerable the whole situation, so we just slept there 1 night.
Seriously, nothing.

GreeceI booked a room at this hotel two months before my arrival. It was chosen with the basic criteria of distance to Valetta (800m) that would give me the opportunity to walk there instead of using a taxi thus save me time and money from transportation. Three hours before check in I was informed by the property, through whatsapp, that I am relocate to another hotel 6km away from Valletta. That was adding to my budget additional cost for my daily transportation. I contact the hotel for explanation and they gave me two options: 1. Cancel the room, losing my booking money (due to booking.com cancelation policy in that short notice) and find a new hotel by my own (what where the chances to find one the same day that I arrive?) or 2. Accept the relocation and handle by my own the transportation experience from/to Valletta. (In both cases I lose money and time.) Under that circumstances I had no choice rather than to accept the transfer to the new hotel and ask help from booking.com later.

GermanyThe hotel manager was extremely rude! Firstly as i arrived late to malta, and checked in the room, i noticed that there are no electricity adapters for using to charge my electronic devices, and aside from the fact that the room was quite looking different than my booking which was quite acceptable, what made me very irritated was the fact that there is a big black spot on the ceiling of the bathroom which caused due to water damage (could be sort of mould) --> see the photo. so i called the hotel service number. I informed the person ( the hotel manager) that there is no adapter, and the manger firstly doubted me, then complained about how people steal the adapters, then eventually told me that next morning the adapter will be eventually then provided. I asked if there is possibility of finding a plug in some other room at the hotel, firstly came no answer. Then i added and the fact that the bathroom might be having a spot of a mould, and generally that's can't be acceptable due to a risk to health. The manager started to become more rude and complained while saying that she is trying to help me. I asked how will you be helping me then? Answer was to offer you another room. I said great i accept that. So i needed to get out of the room, take the elevator to the second floor ( while i was doing that, the manager was still on the phone, saying: that i won't find something better than here, that all malta is the same, how much have i paid at booking, that whatever i have paid, it's not much money, that i can leave if i want and request a refund, that i'm a guest who complains, that may be i should i leave) anyway, i was waiting for the elevator to come, but it didn't respond ( apparently it stops on the first floor and don't go the second one, at least that's how it was during that evening) so i notified her about that and the answer was may be it's your bad luck you just going to have to take the stairs.
- The location is okay. - The view from the top floor is nice. - The bed is comfortable
