We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesNot a lot of storage in the room - we had to keep things in our suitcases. Not the end of the world, but a heads up for others. We decided to walk to the beach club, and I regret everything. (haha.) It is a nice enough club, but I don't think most people would enjoy or tolerate that walk in the heat. I'd recommend a quick cab ride, or despite it costing a handful of pesos, the public beach in town is a LOT closer, and has everything you could want. I wouldn't say the beach club is a selling point. But again, it's so close to everything else that we still really liked staying here.
We really adored this little hotel! I had never really noticed it tucked in on the street, but there it was. We had a very friendly welcome, from both a human and the cat who lives there. It's a small little bar and reception area. The "rooms" are all cabins. The roofs have thatching, but no worry, they are solid underneath. It's rustic, but adorable. The shower is open to the sky and trees above (which I love - and our shower had branches literally growing through it that they had built around). There is a small rack to hang things. An A/C. And a tv. The property is just so cute - stone paths through the plants loop around to all the cabins, you pass a couple of tubs sunken into the ground, a small pool, it's adorable. SUPER close to everything in town!

IrelandIt was loud at night because of a bar behind the property and due for he thatched roof, debris and ants would often fall onto the bed. Also, the towels and linen were slightly stained.
The property was lovely with each room standing as its own little hut under a a canopy of trees. The bathroom was half outdoors which was a cool perk and there was a great tv in the room as well as AC.

CanadaIf you’re sensitive to noise there’s a bar right behind that was very loud till late and neighbors have 3 dogs that like to sing to the music.
Super cute, feels like you’re in the jungle in huts but with nice bed and bath. Owner very friendly and accommodating. Great location next to park, restaurants and pubs, near waterfront.

CanadaThe bar behind the hotel was the place to party and if you were a light sleeper it would keep you up. if you like to party it would be perfect. Also our rental car was broken into our front and the spare tire was stolen. Viva la Mexico
It was close to the main square and restaurants. The pool area was very relaxing and the stone huts were quaint and very dark Which allowed for very good sleeps. Bacalar itself was one of favourite places with friendly people, good food, and a gorgeous lake to swim in. on of the few places on the Yucutan that has free beach access.

United KingdomThe windows have no mosquito nets. The music from the nearby bar kept us awake. Not a fault of the resort, but we didn't sleep well. Shame!
Lovely bungalow in a jungle garden, close to the lagoon and square. A nice experience in Bacalar. We loved the outdoor shower. The birds are particularly tuneful here. Staff are lovely too.

Denmark- The shower only had warm water on one day, the other day it was cold - The room is pretty dark, the one light bulb is not filling the room with light - There was just few possibilities to hang / put your clothes
The hotel consists of several bungalows/huts, which we really liked. To get to the rooms you walk through a little jungle in the backyard which is covered with palms and banana trees - really beautiful. The room has a huge bed which was really comfortable and the outdoor bathroom made it unique. The location is perfect - it's just a minute away from the center with all the shops, restaurants and bars; and also really close to the lagoon. The noise from the bar next to the hotel was not at all bad. From the previous reviews we read that it should be really loud, but we didn't had any problems and could easily sleep - I guess this depends on how sensitive you are in your sleep :-)

CanadaSee above
The site is exceptionally beautiful, all rooms being independent huts. It is centrally located close to the main Bacalar square, and surrounded by coffee shops. Downsides: - Rooms are very small; - Wifi is choppy at times; - Site is close to bars, so music is very loud until 1am (more or less); - Pool is beautiful, but not functional, as it is made stones, and it is tedious to get in it, to get out of it, and to walk in it (I recommend wearing wet shoes); - The key system is dysfunctional, if you are two guests and one needs to go out while the other stays in (usually in the morning); - Their so-called "playa privado" is not a true statement. There are no beaches in Bacalar...nowhere. Their beach club is nice, but their "drop" to the lagoon is unfriendly and far from the excellent "in-water" experience you will find at the public site of the Cocalitos Beach Resort (not a true resort, but a public ground to experience the lagoon). I highly recommend. Cost is 200mxn per person for the day, and food and drinks are very limited on site. Better to bring your own food. Upsides: + Within a 5 minute walk of excellent restaurants and shops (although they are tourist traps);

AustriaI did not use the pool, it was a bit cloudy
This was a really nice place to stay. Loved that each room was a little independent house with the traditional thatched roof and great private outdoor shower. Humble and simple design meets the generous large room and bed. The central location was great. Other reviewers wrote about the noise from the neighboring club. I stayed on a Sunday and all was peaceful and quite. They have access to a beach club, which I did not go, and also a discount at a decent food spot close-by.

AustraliaThere must be a night club close by that plays music until 3am so loud you feel like you’re there… between howling dogs, loud music, a murky pool that doesn’t look like the photos and lumpy pillows - sadly it’s not worth the money

FranceDO NOT GO THERE They made me pay twice for the room, saying that their software did not work. Unable to send an invoice or any proof of payment. They are thiefs. Plus as it was raining the room was full of water as the roof is not waterproof. The reception did do anything about it when I asked, they only gave me a dirty bucket … Go to Casa Umay next door, so much better !

MexicoWe didn't end up staying. My family checked in while I was on a work call and once I hung up the receptionist told me the family room shares a wall with a bar/club that plays loud music until 4am. I was with my 2 young children and elderly parents so we left immediately. I'm grateful she let us know and didn't charge us.
The actual hotel is very pretty. Lots of lush greenery, felt quiet and peaceful. Family room was pretty spacious, Aircon worked Walking distance from main square

United StatesThe main problem is the noise of a close bar that had very loud music until 6:30 AM. The cabins had an open roof and it was impossible to sleep in all the night. The shampoo and gel in the bathroom were obsolete , with a horrible odor.
The location was perfect because it is in the town, near the main square. The cabins were in a middle of a little jungle with a nice swimming pool. The beds were comfortable and big.
