Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

United StatesThe tides do effect the amount of available beach front, so be aware of this... even at high tide we were still able to use some of the chase lounges on the beach. On the third day of our stay we had a significant amount of sea weed wash up on the beach. The property staff worked hard to remove it, but it was a daunting task. The seaweed had no odor but prevented us from wanting to enter the water none the less. Please note that this really only impacted 1 our our 6 day visit.
We loved location of the property! The pictures on the website are accurate! We stayed here 6 nights and would stay again. Our room was on the 2nd floor and had a view of the beach front with a private balcony with two chairs and a hammock. The property has a nice private beach front, and is close to the town center, so restaurants and convince stores are very close. The included breakfast from the attached restaurant was Excellent! I'd recommend the Rojo Chilaquiles, the Vegetarian Omelet, and the Avocado Toast. The staff at the Hotel and restaurant were kind and courteous, Rubi at the front desk welcomed us, and sent us off, she was wonderful! At the beach restaurant, Julian makes the best cocktail's we've ever had, Margaritas and Pina Coladas were our favorites. At breakfast, Tao, Jasmine, and the rest of the staff provided 5 star service. We also had the property arrange our transfer services to and from the Cancun Airport and the experience was top notch.

United StatesThere is night club noise nearby that continues past midnight- one night it went until 3am. There is also just a lot of noise, period, in this part of Holbox because the "golf carts" that serve as taxis are actually very loud ATVs. I was also really annoyed at how close the beach club was built to the high tide line, to the point that a raised walkway had to be built around the back of the reception area because there was no land surface visible there at high tide. The ocean belongs to everyone and this felt like a deliberate attempt to keep people from walking past.
The beachfront area and rooms are very nice and well-maintained. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating.

United StatesThe beds were a little too hard. The chairs on the balcony need some kind of cushion or a more comfortable chair to sit and watch the ocean. They are cute, but not comfortable. By the end of our stay we were tired of the choices for our "free" breakfast. There weren't enough loungers on the beach because people would place a towel on the chair and not come back for the whole day. I'm not sure how this problem could be fixed.
The location on the beach was beautiful. My view from our balcony was perfect and hearing the waves in our room was heavenly! The bar was the best place to watch the sunset and eat their fabulous fish and chips with a pina colada. The waitstaff at the bar were always very helpful and attentive.

United StatesThe room advertised was not the room we got...when we tried to change it, there were no acceptable options. Nothing wrong with the room we had other than we were expecting to be on the 2nd floor. At over $400 per night, the room did not reflect the price paid, however.
Great location, close to everything! Great restaurant on the property serving very good food and cocktails!

United StatesOur room did not have a balcony, several do not, and it was too hot to open windows. A hammock in the room is not a great substitute. Wifi was sketchy. No pool. No foot wash station so sand was in the room. Limited beach due to high water level was the most challenging issue with beach walkers literally walking around our chairs. Roof top outside lounge eliminated if you have been here before to add more rooms. Tips for staff must be cash only FYI.
Great location, great staff, AC worked well, ocean front, excellent food options and bar. Transportation arrangements to CUN airport were perfect.

United StatesDue to the location it can be loud at night, we booked the stay knowing that - so just beware if you are a very light sleeper. The hotel itself could use some updating, the rooms are very basic and older.
Beautiful hotel, located steps from town and right on the water. Breakfast was delicious with many options, the staff is accommodating and kind. The grounds of the hotel are stunning - loved the proximity to everything. Overall we loved our stay!

GermanyWe choose this hotel to have a nice and quiet stay. Unfortunately you can hear a loud bass until 3am in the morning. This was the same every night. They have provided earplugs but I do not like using them, although I did in the end. Also there is a LOT of seaweed on the beach. Unfortunately they did only clean this on 1 out of 4 days. The seaweed is a problem on the whole island. I also found the price of € 300 per night for the quality offered to much. The prices are quite high on the whole island. Overall I would not stay in this hotel or on Holbox again.
The location directly on the beach is nice. As well as the staff at the reception and the breakfast was very nice to. Just the coffee and juice could have been of better quality.

United KingdomOur room didn’t have any storage space, e.g. no drawers or closet or dresser. We had to live out of our suitcases which is inconvenient, especially considering the hotel charges 4/5 star prices. Most beachside hotels of this calibre also provide bathrobes and slippers - would have been a nice to have. The food was average at best, although cocktails were good. Better breakfast in most other places on the island. The restaurant and bar staff didn’t match up to the hospitality of the reception staff, were often confused and non accommodating, and the kitchen ran out of ingredients often making the experience very inconsistent. While the beach is ‘private’, because of its small size and the nature of the Holbox beaches being open to public, there is a constant flow of people walking back and forth in and around the sunbeds which is not conducive to relaxing. Given that this is an adults only hotel, there are a lot of kids that are running around and often playing in the water very loudly - which again, defeats the purpose of an adults only hotel. Hopefully the staff can be more mindful of this and find a way to facilitate some privacy for the guests.
The reception staff, cleanliness of the beach and property, the size and view from the rooms, and the location of the hotel. The staff in the reception goes above and beyond to help with all requests, and their real-time communication is impeccable! The rooms and bathrooms are large and clean, with a stunning view of the ocean just a few feet away. The hotel has a small beach which I can confirm is the ONLY beach on the whole island that is cleaned thoroughly everyday and all seaweed is removed each morning! This really made all the difference during our stay. There was seaweed piled up everywhere except on the strip in front of this hotel!

United StatesYou can hear the live music from town until late -- but the hotel provides ear plugs. The biggest issue was getting scam emails from Booking.com (not the hotel, so not the hotel's fault) asking me for my credit card again and other info.

United KingdomThe walls are quite thin so it does get quite noisy in the evenings unfortunately, but the hotel kindly provides earplugs which is a nice gesture. Also, although I enjoyed the ability to have a tab running throughout our stay, it was a real bummer that we couldn’t tip by card. Unfortunately we did not have enough cash and I felt bad as the staff works hard and more than deserves it. So hopefully this is a feature they can include as I’m sure we weren’t the only ones!
The outdoor amenities and setting at La Palapa are wonderful, very close to town yet still feels secluded with its private beach. We walked by the long beach strip that has most other hotels, and there was so much seaweed that guests couldn’t reach the sea (not to mention the smell). However, the water in front of La Palapa was clear and dreamy. The staff was also absolutely wonderful, helpful at all times, there was a genuine positive atmosphere. Finally, we also really enjoyed the food, more so than expected! Thanks to the team for a wonderful stay

United KingdomWhen we arrived we were very disappointed to see the beach being under construction which was due to weather and seaweed (which was out of their control) but did think they could have notified guests prior. Secondly, we were notified at check in that the rooftop would not be available due to construction work going on. Again, the lateness of this information was not good and whilst offered compensation, this didn’t cover the loss of facilities. The manager, Max, was very kind and considerate however throughout this to try and make our stay enjoyable. We would recommend staying here, but would potentially be a better area for peak season.
Location wise it is really good, we were close to the main part of town for bars / restaurants and could walk to most places. View from our room of the beach was nice and the breakfasts we had included were very tasty. Large majority of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The beach setup is very nice, however it goes get limited sunshine
