Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

LuxembourgHOWEVER you have plenty of dogs barking all night + nerver-sleeping roosters. So if noises such as these bother you, find another hotel. But it's a pity because the property is really charming.
It's a very nice hotel located outside of the main street. They also have a small restaurant which serves a superb breakfast as well as diner (don't expect much choice but the best quality around).

NetherlandsOur experience at this hotel was better than expected. We had a smooth check-in despite arriving late, and found clean & comfortable rooms. We didn’t try out the restaurant so cannot say if the food/variety is any good.
Convenient location in the center of Xpujil 15mins by foot from the ADO (long distance national bus service) station. Clean, comfortable hotel rooms with staff on standby at reception and a small, efficient restaurant. Hotel rooms are nicely equipped and the hotel is a perfect overnight destination on the way to the Calakmul biosphere reserve and archaeological zone

Air condition was working. They stored our luggage during the day.

ItalyThe hotel is a bit old styled but when reserving you know what you’re putting yourself up to.
Comfortable stop to visit Calakmul. Good value for money. If you’re not looking for something too fancy you’ll find a nice property with clean rooms and fresh sheets. There’s a restaurant serving till 10 pm, so we managed to dine even arriving late. They texted me I should pay cash upon arrival, but then the credit card worked fine.

BelgiumThe water pressure was a challenge and so was getting hot water. Due to the ongoing construction of the Maya Train, the construction noise and dust was terrible but that is not the hotel’s fault.
The property has an ideal location for exploring Calakmul. It’s at a midway point. The rooms are simple but functional. While it states that there is no WiFi it actually offers it. There is a breakfast option as well.

PolandBeds are uncomfortable, seems the mattresses are very old and worn. Restaurant personnel was a bit lunatic. There were several power and water outages but these seem to be an issue for the entire town in general.

GermanyEverything's allright.
As of today, there are not many hotels within 1h distance of the entrance to the archaeological site of Calakmul. Hotel Maya Balam deserves a visit, nice, spacy rooms, all the comfort you need and even a restaurant on site.

SwedenNothing to complain, while we were there their satellite company was trying to fix tv reception, not very successful and stable, but then, who needs tv in that place with so much to see.
One of the closest hotels and villages to Calakmul, which is how we found the place to stay, still about 1 hour drive to the entrance at night. Xpujil has their own little archeological site and Becan is close by as well. In the village you find some shops, bakeries and taquerias. Try to go by the furniture manufacturer Adolfo and his father they make fantastic furniture (unfortunately most of them too big to take with us, we got some small souvenirs made of wood instead). Great grilled chicken, see pictures.

United KingdomVery noisy water pump many times during day and night. I was told when I checked in that there was no hot water in the hotel because they use panels and it was raining. However, there was electricity. As it happens on the morning of checkout we did have hot water in the shower.

SpainThe "superior studio" does not have a balcony – it is accessed through the same balcony that leads to other rooms on the same floor. The bathroom could be cleaner. We had a tour booked that would pick us up at 7:15, and the hotel restaurant did not open for breakfast until 7 although we were told it would open at 6:30, which meant we had to get our breakfast takeaway to eat on the road. The breakfast is quite plain and the waiter uninspired. The free wifi is patchy.
Ok price for what you get. Friendly staff in reception. Parking on-site. Big bed, spacious room, sofa. Complimentary water. Calm area. Very good restaurant around the corner on the main road.

United KingdomThere was a short circuit and the electricity wires powering the room buzzed worryingly.
The property is a rural hotel in a village lost in the middle of a tropical forest. There were some imperfections, but overall the standard was high given the circumstances. The room was clean, dry, airy, and had a working AC. The wifi connection was quite good too. There is a hotel restaurant serving simple and good meals. All the staff was very friendly and nice to talk to (in Spanish).

Belgium-> Almost no waterflow in the sink -> Really not clean. There were laying black hairs from previous guests on the floor and in the shower. And a sticky floor with spots. -> Walls from thin carton. Resulting in a very noisy place
-> Parking spaces -> Quick and fluent checkin/out -> Availability of restaurant and breakfast -> Just stay here if you want to visit Calakmul and be prepared you only stay here to cover the distance.

BelgiumWifi connection not perfect but not a big deal
From the reviews I previously saw, I had not high expectations from this hotel. On the opposite, it was a very nice staying! It is in the nature, with parking available and big and cleaned rooms. In front of our room there was the restaurant where we had some beers and a very nice dinner and breakfast. There was warm water in the shower. We stayed there to go to Calakmul, it was perfect for that. Price/quality recommended.
